this might be me overthinking, but I've heard (from other schools' sdn pages) that schools that pre-screen secondaries holistically usually only send secondaries tp candidates that they will interview. So does that mean anything for CMU? If you get a secondary, then is an II on the way?

Also, I know I read this somewhere on this thread, but CASper is optional for CMU, but does anyone recommend sending it in anyways? I already took it for a school that required it

cMU automatically sends secondaries to ppl that meet their mcat and gpa cut off. I was told by admissions that If you’re below, then they review it tI decide if there is a “compelling reason” to give you a secondary anyway ... my gpa was .23 below what they said was the cut off (this was before covid so idk if that changed anything) and I got a secondary. Hoping they thought whatever was compelling enough for a secondary is compelling enough for an interview.

im Sending my casper score. They say on their website it usually helps applicants so unless you think you bombed it, I’d send it. Especially since it’s already done and it’s only like $12 to send.

hm, I'm not sure if there is really a gpa or mcat cutoff because earlier in this thread, there were people that were rejected pre-secondary that had pretty good stats (compared to mine). what cutoffs did they tell you?

This was from April

honestly interesting, maybe they made some covid changes or they just really like my application or something. whats a composite score?
What were your stats? Not sure what a composite score is tbh

so basically, if i crossed the secondary screen and submitted my secondary already, then I would be invited for an interview? sorry if I am overthinking/reading this - I appreciate your patience
I don’t think it’s a guarantee, you need to pass the secondary screeners still...but if you were below the cut offs and got a secondary, maybe it’s a positive sign that they liked your application .. that’s what I’m telling myself 🙂

I'm an upward trend person so my stats don't match what's on my transcript if that makes sense? I just tend to not share my stats for my own privacy reasons.

nothing is a guarantee when it comes to med applications, but the increased likelihood is always nice to have lol. But the secondary screeners - are those pre or post secondary? Because I thought the email said that after secondary is submitted, the secondary screeners don't see stats. not to toot my own horn, but everything but stats on my app is pretty strong

Hi! so this is just my .02$. I was invited for an interview. For people invited to interview, they provide this video link that explains some information regarding the application process. Last year, they received 6k primary and RECEIVED 4k secondaries. So I am assuming the 2k were either screened out or just did not submit. Now, they invited to interview 500 students for a class of 100 (probably accept around 200 total).

They also stated that they expect this year to be NO DIFFERENT. If you ask me, how they go to from 4k secondaries to 500 students WITHOUT taking a look at the metrics (gpa and mcat), that is mind blowing to me lol. So take that as you may, but again 4k students get secondaries and 500 get interviews. Good luck to you all!

I'm in the same boat 🙂 the screeners only read your secondary and then parts of your primary...they don't see GPA or MCAT.

appreciate the 2 cents! so since you did get an interview, do you think you had the stats to "justify" one or do you think your experiences/letters/essays made a difference

I believe both. My "why CMU" essay I thought was really strong as I provided personal examples and activities. But of course, I have no clue what went in to receiving an interview>

does CMU send out R emails or just kinda ghost you trying to figure out if I still have a chance here since I submitted at the end of July and haven't heard anything

Did they say that for the interviewees in that interview before 10/15 (I think only 9/11 and 9/2-something were options) that for the applicants they have time to review, that they'll release those decisions on 10/15. I do know that they said not everyone from those sessions will hear back in the first round of decisions if they don't have time to review all the people from those groups at the same time.

Not sure but they did release decisions on 10/15 last year fwiw

When do you guys think they will start sending out more IIs? I just feel like we've not heard a lot from them. I sent my secondary out later (9/1)

Anyone know if all those who received IIs at that point completed their interviews?

I received interview mid September and completed interview in October. When I signed up in September there were no other October dates available. They are probably spreading the II's out so don't worry, it is still early in the cycle.

did anybody take the CASPer test? is it required for CMU cuz it doesn't say on MSAR but on the CASPer website, it has CMU listed, so it's probably optional. I just wanna know if it would look more favorable to actually take it or if it doesn't matter
not required

So I called admissions today to ask about the screening process. It's true that they look at your MCAT/GPA before sending your secondary and then there are people blinded to stats when looking through your application. But she also said that the notes that blinded people use are then sent to the interview committee which I believe looks at your whole app. So idk if its true that they are completely blinded to stats after you are complete

Did they mention if they have sent out most of their II or where they’re at with the invites?

Yeah, I'm just kinda like "if they've made decisions for X number of applicants from the first two interview days, then it would make sense for them to release all those decisions at once." Could be wrong though.
