2020-2021 Loyola (Stritch)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
is this school true pass/fail or are there internal rankings?
No school is true pass fail dude to AOA and stuff. Most schools have some sort of internal ranking. The one at Loyola is super low key— it’s mostly based on the clinical years lol. Which is similar to a lot of school. If anything I view it as a positive with step going pass fail, and it’s reallly not something we think about

I got the II on Thursday and haven't been able to find any dates..... Refreshing doesn't do anything. Is this happened to anyone else?

Got the II yesterday and same
I’m sure they’ll update it on Monday! You can send an email if they don’t. Admissions staff are human and do take the weekend off hehe

A couple of interview dates popped up for me and I was able to schedule -- the available dates were 2/9 and 2/11

yay! just scheduled 🙂 to anyone who scheduled earlier-- how long did it take for your portal to change from "Your interviewers have not yet been assigned" to having them assigned? Do you get to know which slots you have an interview during (or information about your interviewers) before the day of?

I received my interviewers about 3-4 days before my interview and at that time they tell you what time slot you’ll be interviewing with each person!

everything is at central time right? it is not specified on the portal, just wanted to make sure

No, I haven’t heard back yet I interviewed about a week or two ago, I just wanted to see if it’s recommended to send a letter of intent before a decision is made

If it's your absolute number 1 choice you could, I doubt it would hurt you but I think people typically wait until they get waitlisted/CC. The reason for this is I doubt sending a letter of intent will prevent you from getting rejected and if they're gonna accept you then sending it is pointless of course.

Received a phone call yesterday evening for MD/PhD!
Intending on calling Stritch home for the next 8 years. 🙂

editing to add my timeline for future MD/PhD applicants (anyone applying MD and worried about my late submission and relatively quick interview invite - take it with a huge grain of salt because MD/PhD admissions is a separate process and they have far fewer apps to review (it’s also a lot less “rolling” because of how few seats there are).

I applied pretty late but with a very Stritch specific application containing a lot of meaningful service - both clinical and non clinical (in addition to the academics and research required for MD/PhD).
primary verified 8/28/2020,
secondary complete 10/11/2020,
interview invite 11/3/2020,
interview 12/8/2020,
offer 1/25/2021

If you look at the dates there’s a large gap between receiving the secondary and submitting it. (That doesn’t even account for seeing the prompts on SDN before I got them) It took me a while to reflect on the secondary - but I think I submitted a much stronger application than if I had turned them around in 2 weeks like most people recommend. Stritch is a special place and they really value reflection which is hard to confine to a distinct period of time - I waited until I was ready to submit them and I’m so grateful I did.

What is the interview format for this school? And how many interviews are there?

2 one on one interviews. If i remember correctly its one person from the admissions department (partial open file) and one with a physician at stritch (open file). Both are around 45 mins.

For those of you attending the webinar tomorrow, are you dressing professionally or know if cameras will be on?

I attended a webinar this summer and dressed pretty formally. I wore a plain shirt and a black suit jacket. I was surprised by how many people dressed really casually like some even in t-shirts. You’ll be meeting people from the admissions staff and I think it’s much better to err on the side of being overly professional than not.
You don’t want to be remembered for your clothes. You definitely don’t want to be remembered for looking like you rolled out of bed 5 min before the meeting. My advice - wear something you think would be appropriate if you were visiting in person.
I thought Zoom webinars are on the mode where guests can’t turn on their camera?

Ohhhhh wait okay
Are we talking about the fauci webinar?
I’m a dumbo - yeah I would assume cameras won’t be on for that.

for some reason I assumed that someone was asking about a Stritch visit like the informal admissions thing 😅
Wow okay apologies if I freaked anyone out

Yes, we’re talking about the Fauci webinar. Or at least, I am! 😀

You’re not a dumbo... but if you were, you’d have some really cool ears.

Continued Consideration just now 🙁. Interviewed 1/5. Quite bummed tbh. I thought the interviews went really well. Is CC just another synonym for waitlist or can we see actual movement?

Don’t lose hope just yet, I’ve heard there is movement. Did you submit a letter of intent before this?

I will try not to! 🙂 Fingers crossed for a little movement! I submitted an update letter and letter of interest this past Monday evening, but I know the decision team meets on Monday's so perhaps it was just that little bit too late to be considered into the decision. Although that said, today is Thursday so it is certainly possible they were able to take a last-minute look. A letter of intent is certainly the next step. (I had an interview elsewhere that I equally loved so was torn on submitting a letter of intent initially, however, I was also put on the waitlist there this week)

Hello Loyola ladies and lads,

Does anyone get a post-II R? Or does every unaccepted person get initially put on CC, then at the verrrry end of the cycle the people who don't get get off the waitlist are rejected?

Perhaps @Talldoctor96 can answer. I hope my question made sense.

There are people on CC who will be rejected prior to the very end, and then the rest are rejected at the very end.

I also interviewed on 1/5 but haven't heard back at all...is it possible that Stritch releases their decision for applicants on different days?
We don’t get to all the candidates every week. I’m sure you’ll be discussed at the next meeting

Thanks for all your help/input through the cycle. Do you know if anyone has been accepted off CC yet this cycle? Just trying to manage my own expectations.

Interview tomorrow.. a little nervous, any tips? I hope they don't really ask too much besides from "why medicine, why loyola, background about you and your ECs"..??
