how late into the year can you switch to enroll into a different medical school? I'm not sure how the DO programs work

Interviewed 11/19 and getting a bit anxious bc I would really love to hear back today...

I missed the virtual interview tips webinar and the next one is after my interview date. Can anyone share the gist of what was said?

guess who was waiting anxiously by the phone the past two hours then missed a call from the school as soon as she went to the restroom? 😂😂

VM just said to return the call (no answer as I assume they have a list to get through) but I would hope it’s not for a rejection or WL. Interviewed 11/11.

Are there any scholarships available for incoming 1st year IS students?

If I accept and pay the deposit that is not a binding acceptance that withdraws my applications at other schools, correct? It is the only school that has required a payment after acceptance for me, and I wanna make sure I am not just signing a contract that will not allow me to make my own decision come end of April.

According to the AACOMAS traffic guidelines, you have until May 15th to decide on a school (meaning you can hold multiple seats up until that time). After May 15th, it is dependant on the school.
"After May 15 of the year of matriculation, each medical college may implement college-specific procedures for accepted students who hold one or more seats at other medical colleges."

You can find more info here: AACOMAS Traffic Guidelines

General rule of thumb for both MD/DO schools is that you can hold onto multiple acceptances until April 30th (in a non COVID year). Depending on the school, they don’t care if you’ve already put down your seat deposit and decide to forfeit your seat if something comes up. Many people have multiple paid non-refundable seats at a time to see if a school will give them a scholarship until the deadline.

I just checked my portal for MSUCOM and there isn’t any binding language to the school in the offer. It does make sense to pay the $500 immediately after acceptance so you can get the site of your choice if you do decide to attend.

Does anyone know if there's a deadline by which we have to pay the deposit fee in order to keep our acceptance?

I'm pretty much expecting a rejection at this point. I was submitted as of 8/24 and my 2nd MCAT score should have been to them by Sept. People keep saying they have seen a pre-II rejection in this post. I can't find it. I'm guessing they are going to send a round of rejection letters in March 2021 like they did in 2020. It seems so unnatural to keep individuals waiting when you could easily say, "Do not contact about rejection until May of following year". Reject people who don't meet your credentials. Ultimately, I keep reading conflicting statements. Does MSU look at grades and MCAT before offering an interview?

Echoing the post above, I applied in mid-August and have yet to hear anything back.

At this point should I just expect a pre-II R?

I'm in the exact same situation

I spoke to Anne Snyder in Nov last year in order to go over my application and get her advice on what I could improve upon. Although I have a low undergraduate GPA she said they would factor in the fact that I went to a more difficult school so she was not concerned about my low GPA. She also told me I just needed to get a 500 for an interview. And true to her word, I received an II (even though I am convinced it was a mistake), with an uGPA of 3.2 and a MCAT of 501.

That's great. Congrats. Gives me hope because I have the same MCAT and am IS. But I still consider it a major long shot, but you never know.

For those who are currently waiting on an interview invite, do not give up hope. Interviews go all the way through April. Last year’s interviews were a whole different scenario because of COVID, so they stopped interviewing slightly early. They also didn't take anyone off the 2nd tier waitlist last year (and barely pulled anyone from tier 1), also due to COVID reasons, so I wouldn't count on last year's SDN to tell you much.

They also don’t start sending out pre-II rejections until March. It’s only December and you still have plenty of time to hear back. Do not think that you got rejected just because you haven't heard back yet, because there's still so much time! This cycle was also delayed because of COVID.

Sincerely, an OMS-I

Interviewed 11/11 and haven’t heard anything. I saw someone else with an acceptance from that date. Do they send out emails if you were put on WL?

interviewed 2 weeks ago and received acceptance. Very happy since this is the best DO school in the country with great clinical and research opportunities that beats a lot of MD. Schools . Metrics are also high gpa and mcat wise and I heard very friendly students and supportive faculty. With Covid 19 and increased number of apps, this is probably the most competitive and anxiety provoking cycle in history. I learned one thing ,this is only 1/2 way through cycle so it’s way to early to hit the reapp button and it’s just a matter of waiting and let it play out. LM 73 with 7 MD interviews and 6 DO and still less than half of interviews done. Just hang in there till may 1

They call and send email

I know they say ~4 weeks for a decision but does anyone know how the holidays will affect this? I interviewed 12/3 so I'm just hoping to figure out when I could hear back!

No idea. But it seems like they are sending out acceptances biweekly on Thursday and Friday

I interviewed the same day. I am hoping I also hear a decision before christmas. one of my friends heard back in 2 weeks.

For those of you who were accepted on Thursday/Friday last week, were you told that your portal would change to show your acceptance info on Monday? My portal still hasn't changed but the person on the phone said that it should be updated by today. I know it's still early in the day but I'm getting worried lol

Same. Wait 5 business days. I think we should receive it latest by Thursday.

I was only told to expect an email early this week with more info so it may take longer for the portal to actually change. I wouldn’t worry at all.

when is the deposit due? by the date that we must accept the offer by? I was under the impression it was due the 14th. can someone clarify please? thank you!

it should say when your deposit is due in the email! for ex: I was accepted Friday and my deposit is not due til February 1st. I think it is only 12/14 deadline if you're accepted to a school prior to 11/15 per AACOMAS (I believe, correct me if i'm wrong)
