Alright, so nothing exciting like an II, but my status went from "forwarded for preliminary review on 8/31" to forwarded for preliminary review on "8/29"? So i'm just gonna take that as they are aware of my file / have seen it at least since they changed the date lol

Lol mine hasn’t changed since the day that I was complete at the very beginning of August

can someone look at mine next 😗

I was "forwarded for preliminary review" at the beginning of last month, any timeline for when this status should change?

OOS btw
ive also been at this stage since 7/28, OOS tho, hopefully we move on to the next stage soon 🙂

Just received an email from Dr. Maurer saying that MSU will be discontinuing the MMI format for the rest of the 2020-21 cycle, citing difficulties with the virtual interview platform.

Instead, they will be adding another traditional, 1-on-1 interview. So now each applicant will have one faculty member and one medical student interview.

Did that email go to everyone or just ppl who got II?

Re-applicant here! Since there wasn't a re-applicant essay for the secondaries, does anyone know if MSU throws away files from previous application cycles and doesn't compare re-applicants to their previous application?

I just got a VM from adcom saying they plan on actually going through with the mmi (or some modified version) even though they just cancelled it altogether. They kinda seem all over the place, but has anyone gotten the email explaining what the "modified MMI" looks like?

Does anyone know if for MSUCHM you have to apply to the tracks (i.e. LMU )in your initial app? Or can you apply to them later?

It’s best to apply to the track in your secondary application but they can open it back up for you if after the interview you would like to apply for a track. They open it up and ask you to complete it in a week.

Those of you that have IIs, do you know if we're expected to dress up for the Pre-interview day informational session? I would assume so but just making sure

Most people dressed up just in case, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't held against you if you didn't. There were 60+ people on the call so I doubt they were looking at each of us. I thought it was just gonna be a time to test our connection so I didn't dress up and I'm pretty sure I'm still fine. Just keep your mic muted

Just real quick. If we choose end-point model (the description says the applicant should document the courses), Do we have to send them anything before we get an II? I did not see any option to indicate/describe my path on the secondary (I just chose end-point). Submitted and moved to preliminary review on 7/27 and stuck there since.

Anyone know how long it took for MSU to receive Casper results? My Casper just got scored and was sent to all of the applied schools today. MSU still hasn’t marked my app complete bc of Casper

Mine was received within a day. But I would give them two weeks to mark it (as I think they have to do it manually) before contacting them.

Anyone else that's interviewing slightly annoyed that we're asked to read a bunch of packets and watch multiple presentations in preparation for a four-hour virtual information session? In addition to basically submitting another secondary application with all of their required supplemental documents...

Hi all. Just wanted to share my info here for those of us who are neurotic as me.

Verified 8/12.
MCAT retake 8/14
Secondary Complete 8/30.
Still waiting. Hope to get good news soon.

Hello everyone, I was hoping to get some feedback on the prompt:
Discuss a time when you stepped out of your comfort zone. What were the challenges? What did you learn? (300 words)

I have been a vegan for 3 years and would like to discuss my transition here. I ate meat and dairy for 20 years nearly then began to realize that my actions and beliefs that I was an animal-lover did not align. the exploitation of animals and degradation of environments through factory farming are clear. I want to highlight how my viewpoints were challenged and how I decided to make a change. however, I know some non-vegans may become offended by this or feel as if it is patronizing (which I do not want to be). is this too risky? thanks

I'm sure you already wrote your secondary, but just to provide some encouragement, I eat meat and if I was on admissions I'd really enjoy your take on this question. Just my two cents! They're not worth much. 😆

does anyone know if schools (especially MSU) look at app submission or completion date? I submitted my secondary last month but my casper score just delivered last week. So app was submitted a month before completion

Is anyone having trouble with the essays page of the portal today? The first essay keeps deleting my text...

Hello everyone! I’m trying to finish up my secondary and I’m kinda stuck on #3. Are y’all using this as an opportunity to state why MSU or are you saying a fun fact about yourself?? Not quite sure where to go with this question!

I did a Why MSU essay for this, but I think either would work as long as you're thoughtful!

I wrote a little bit of a “diversity” essay, blended with why MSU would be a good fit based on those experiences. I’m interviewing here so they must not have hated that response

Hopefully this helps, I was accepted ED and I wrote about why I fit at MSU and why I would thrive here. It was brought up during my interview, actually.

Same here. Been forwarded for preliminary review since 7/20 and anxiously waiting. This school is one of my top choices, but I'm OOS so I guess I'll have to wait longer 🙁

+2. I just noticed I was FWD on 9/1. Anyone whos gotten II know how long it usually takes to hear back? Im assuming i still got another month wait at best.

How did y'all go about writing the first essay? Like did you bring up specific parts of the curriculum? And how much did you focus on your own experiences?

Feels like it's asking for a lot for just 300 words.

Yeah its a beast. Best advice is focus on the personal and experiences you've had that make you the person you are today and how will that help you in your future as a student-doctor in their curriculum/mission despite the challenges that are yet to come.

forwarded for prelim review since 8/1. two months with no status change. the waiting game is real for me at every school haha

+1

If it makes you feel better I have a guaranteed interview at a school and they've ghosted me thus far haha. At least this school doesn't know me lol

Is the preliminary review status supposed to change? What does it say for those who have been reviewed?
