2020-2021 University of Chicago

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The Jan dates were opened up later; when I signed up, they had an early feb date
Meaning they probably still have some interview dates left over. Last year, they sent II into mid Jan so wouldnt give up yet!

Those who have sent updates and since received IIs, did you have substantial updates to share or did you essentially just express your continued interest and update what you could?

Nothing like a pub but just a new job and an activity. I made sure to highlight the relevance of them and how it connects to Chicago's mission (so I guess the latter of your question).

Tbh at this point if you really consider UChicago one of your top schools, just throw something in. Worst case, they say no and you can sleep a bit better knowing at least you tried

The wait is excruciating. C'mon alma mater, would be happy to not have to pack up and move 😉

Stanford comes out throughout Jan-Mar. And most of UChicago and Northwestern decisions are in Mar with few coming out rolling

Does anyone know how pritzker feels about letters of intent at this point?
I asked a current student about that (one of the ones on the Interview Page that accepts correspondence). She said an interest letter may be appropriate once 2021 rolls around, but an intent letter might be most effective later in the cycle (Feb/Mar). That's one student's opinion, retold by me, take it for what it's worth 😉

Those who interviewed, how was it? Did all three interviewers seem to have read your file? Was it more or less conversational or did they ask formulaic questions? Pritzker is my top choice and I'm nervous! :xf:

If I remember correctly you can see on the interview website what each interviewer will have access to. I got asked questions specific to my PS but it was really chill. I didn't feel like I was being interviewed.

They had definitely read my file & all were super conversational. By far one of the most laid back interview days I've had. You'll be great! 🙂

Seconding what they said above, but it was super conversational and chill! All of my interviewers seemed to have read my file beforehand (what they each had access to which is on the interview website) and all the questions were based on my experiences, motivations, and filtered into a conversation. Forgot I was being interviewed halfway through and there didn't seem to be any scripted/typical questions that were difficult. You got this, good luck!!

I know they send out most A's at the end of the cycle and have sent out one wave of early A's, but does anyone know if there has historically been a 2nd wave of A's before all decisions come out at the end of the cycle? Or do they only have one early A decision wave like Feinberg

I'm pretty sure they sent out some A's in November and some A's in December already. I haven't heard back yet but that's just from what I saw on here. So I feel like they're done until Feb/March

Seems there have been two waves so far. Unsure if there’ll be more released in small batches between now and the end of the cycle or if the rest of us waiting will have to wait till then

Edit: Didn’t see post above. But yeah, basically what they said

I’m wondering if those accepted early will be the ones to receive merit scholarships

on that note, anyone know how much they give out in merit scholarships (I saw online it says 2/3 of the class receives financial aid or merit scholarships, not sure if anyone has more details?) - on last year's thread it seems like most people who got in got in with 1/2 or 3/4 merit aid but that seems like unrealistic for most of the class?

Do we get to know who our interviewers are the same time we learn whether we are in the morning or afternoon interview group?

You find out your block (i.e., morning or afternoon) a couple of days before the interview, and you find out who your interviewers are on the morning of the interview.

Ditto to the pain of waiting on here. Interviewed early November and this is my top choice...it hurts

Wonder what leads them to reject vs accepting someone post-interview seeing that they only accept about 40% of interviewees
If I'm not mistaken, isn't 40% of interviewees accepted a pretty good amount? I have barely seen schools that accept more than 50% (UVA is the only one I can think of that comes to mind with greater than 50%).
