2020-2021 University of Pennsylvania

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Could someone please let me know up to what dates they are scheduling interviews for currently? 🙂

Quick Question: Is the MD-PhD timeline quicker than regular MD at UPenn? Generally speaking (at all schools) is it safe to assume that since there are much less MD-PhD applicants then they get interviews earlier, or is this logic faulty? Thanks!

Nope. Many MD-PhD timelines are slower many are quicker. Penn in particular has a similar timeline for both MD and MDPhD based on prior years.

To those who have interviewed already, was it open file everything (MCAT, GPA, essays)?

Stupid question, but how important is it that the photo be waist up? I have my usual one I use that's shoulders up, but do I need to actually take a new one that's waist up?

congrats to everyone who got II's today!!

did any sept. folks hear back about II's?

Well, the shoulders are above the waist unless you're doing some contorting 🙂

In all seriousness, I can't imagine this would be a big deal so long as it's otherwise a professional photo with the blank background they requested. I think they probably just want to avoid full body shots to ensure they can see your face easily.

Edit: mine keeps coming out sideways? This happening to anyone else?

For those who have submitted the "Plan Your Virtual Visit" page under the Interview tab, did anyone else's mailing address at the bottom go blank after submission?

Yes mine did too. Didn't notice it til you pointed it out. If you feel like asking them about it, let me know what they say! (tbh that particular section is only important if we get the A lol, otherwise not something I necessarily want to keep!)

Thanks for letting me know. I'll update you if I decide to ask them -- not sure if I will since it's relatively unimportant. (I agree with you btw -- there's no way I'd wear their gear if I didn't get in there lol.)

Are there any current students who can speak to the differences between earning an MD/MBA from Penn Med/Wharton vs. the Healthcare Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology (H-MET) certificate? From a brief overview, it looks like earning the MBA will take longer and will be more in-depth training in business compared to getting that certificate. Content-wise, are they pretty similar, and is it much tougher to get into the MBA program as a Penn Med student? Thanks in advance!

Totally in love with the certificate programs at Penn. Would also love to hear about this from current students since it seems like a huge number of students graduate with them.

Any MD-only UPENN II sent out yet? Radio silence and completed Early Sept.

The certificates/dual degree are incredibly attractive here - it's almost overwhelming how many MD+ options Penn Med students get XD

This may be a stupid question, but for people who interviewed on a Monday, it says the student panel is typically the night before so was this on Sunday night or Friday night?

I think there should be and R deadline, like unless you are on a consideration list there should be a date before December where anyone who has been rejected early on and is no longer in consideration should be notified by all schools, and everyone else is post-interview invite or notified that their app is on hold.

I don't know why I applied here. I knew coming in that they were one of the most stats-wh*rish of all the schools, expecting that R anytime now.

Yeah. I’ve got low stats but swung hard here. Hoping for something. I’d love to go but I know it’s the longest of long shots.
Best of luck friend.

I feel you. My LizzyM is a 76.5, and somehow I'm still considered low-stats for this school.
How much longer do we think they'll offer interviews? Like till January I'm assuming?

They may go longer than January since they don't release acceptances until March at the earliest. I know with this cycle they started sending secondaries and interviews out later than normal, so there are likely still opportunities to get interviews!

EDIT: Based on their website it appears they will continue to offer interview invitations up through January. This could mean they'd have some invites for February interviews since they release decisions in March.
