does anyone know if IIs are done here 😥
I was complete in July and marked complete in late August and complete silence since then. wish they rejected me in one of their waves so I didn't have hope
Just had my interview today and they said that today was their last batch of interviews, so I think they're done unfortunately

I was complete Sept 9, got the "file review complete" at the end of October and then radio silence. I dont know about you guys but I felt pretty good about my chances of getting an interview here. My stats/gpa above their median, 10k hours of community service (I'm a non-trad who taught and coached in the inner-city for 5 years), and 6k+ hrs of clinical as a scribe. I met with one of the admissions folks before I took my mcat to see if my app had any holes I needed to address before I applied and was told I was a lock for an interview as long as my mcat was >512 so I'm kind of at a loss. It's been a tough cycle ya'll.
Yep this is all luck. I would reapply and pay a professional to edit the personal statement and secondaries to make it better.

Any MD-PhD folk hear anything? I got the hold for possible acceptance today - wondering if that's a hold for the MD side (and thus waitlisted/hold for MD-PhD as well) or if it's possibly just a placeholder before MD-PhD decisions come out end of March...

I've been accepted a couple of other places that I'm excited about and there's noooo way I'm doing this application thing again! Don't think it was my statement or secondaries. I majored in English and had about 6 people including a family friend who is a professional magazine editor review my essays. I think I hate the idea of it being luck more than I hate the idea of not being good enough!

Right? I grew up in Richmond and my family lives here. It just sort of seems this year that a lot of us with MCAT scores at or right above the school's median aren't making the interview cut. I was waitlisted at evms and finally seeing R's from a lot of OOS private schools that I applied to feeling pretty good about. I'm wondering what the median mcats and IS/OOS profiles will look like on MSAR next year.
Yeah I have no idea what the new MSAR data will look like, but assuming similar trends VCU may be pushing 514 with around a 3.8 GPA. The GPA may even be more inflated with online learning in play. Virtually all of my undergrad friends went from 3.6s to 3.8s "miraculously" after everything went completely online lol.

Ya theres honestly been thousands mor applicants this year cuz i guess people had more time to apply. I think the adcoms werent expecting more applicants this year most were actually expecting less. So sadly it’s been more hypercompetitive this year

I read an article that compared this years increase in medical school applicants during the pandemic to the increase in applicants for the military after the 9- 11 attack. It's an interesting concept. I'll try to find that article.

Regardless-each year admissions for any medical school is very confusing and can seem backwards at times. When you think you have a good chance somewhere - sometimes it turns out to be the opposite response. I just try to remind myself of the number of times physicians I know have told me that the admissions process does not make sense and to keep my head up.

Yo exactly this is so spot on. And that would be such an interesting article i want to look it up. Ik some people were saying luck doesnt play a role. But i def believe it does. It’s stats, experience, and then fate. Because it’s fate that decides who picks up your file. This cycle was definitely overwhelming for applicants and adcoms and to say that they gave each file individualized attention like previous years is naive. But like you said we can only do our best and keep our heads up.

For those who interviewed after March 1st, could they possibly hear back before the waitlist comes out? And if so, does anyone know what day of the week it would be?

No idea but I'm in the same boat! If the committee is still meeting on Mondays, could be later this week, but that's just speculation. I'm sure they want to get the class roster together quickly before finalizing the waitlist.

Does VCU utilize silent rejections (unfair practice to applicants) or do they let you know if you've been rejected?

Almost no school in this country does silent rejections it’s overhyped. All applicants will be rejected by VCU. Pre-II and post II

Is VCU doing status updates with waitlist today? And if you don’t get put on the waitlist it means rejection?

For admitted applicants, does anyone know when financial offers are supposed to be sent out?

I called and asked today when they typically come out, and was told not until late May or early June. The woman I spoke with specifically said “you will have to make a decision of where you’re going before you receive a financial aid package from us”. Also, if you want to be considered for scholarships then you have to fill out the CSS profile!
This is from March 6th of last year on last cycles thread.

The interview process and acceptances are so random at every school that even people with 520 and a lot of clinical hours get rejected from schools. This is because it depends on a variety of things such as who picks up your application (and what kind of mood they are in), what your ethnic and socioeconomic background are. Those play just as a big a role if not bigger than your stats, which I think is really stupid.
At VCU you go through a subcommittee to receive a final file review: not one person who can be in a "mood" or not. Thats not how this process works.

Also, I would be careful about talking about ethnic and socioeconomic background like that.

As a person of color, your comments are disgusting and racist. Being a urm or low income is not a free pass over stats. For your own good and future in this profession, refrain from ever saying stuff like that. If it didn’t work out this year, reapply and work on yourself! Its a stessful cycle but going that low is unacceptable.

Sorry for sounding neurotic, but has anyone received any notifications about being placed on the waiting list? Would anyone know hard is it to get on VCU's waitlist?

Same boat as you. at work and being crazy refreshing both the app portal, and sdn. It's super hard, but we're so close, hang in there!! Hoping for good news for all of us!!

Based on what happened last year, you will get an email saying that there was a change in the portal. And then the portal will say if you were placed on the waitlist.
And they put between 100-200 people on the waitlist. However, I'm not sure how many people are interviewed so I can't say how hard it is to get on there.
But they usually accept around 70-100 people off the waitlist so there is a decent chance of being accepted if placed on the waitlist.

Unfortunately that's not a true statistic anymore. Usually around 250 are on the wait list for about 90 or so spots I believe.

If waitlisted, I recommend writing an update letter or letter of intent where you talk about anything new you've done since the application and once again reiterate why you want to go to VCU.
Although these letters don't play a big role in their decision, it will give you a slight advantage over those who don't write letters.

Based off what Dr. Whitehurst-Cook said last year, if you write a letter of intent, they will basically put a check mark next to your name which says that you are still interested in VCU and would come if accepted.

Just got update, on hold for possible acceptance. Is that the same thing as a waitlist at this point?

+1
Maybe we got the same outcome. I got the email saying my status had changed. But when I go into the portal, I am getting an error message. Anyone else?
Nope, mine is working! When I get an error message, I just have to close out the window and try again and it works.

No, you have to be invited to join the waitlist. It just means the admission committee reviewed your file and gave you a final score.
Thanks! It just seems weird to put me on hold right now, and then come out with waitlists in a few days and then change my status again.
