Yup. That's certainly what they are implying by saying that those people are "quite likely to be accepted to our school as spots become available." If it's actually not likely to happen, it's kind of cruel to use that language, especially when they control the likelihood by how many initial acceptances they issue.
 
Just to clarify for everyone, my HPAL email did not include "quite likely to be accepted to our school as spots become available". (So I assume there are two "tiers" within HPAL?)

Another question: I heard that they use an MMI score with a threshold. Does anyone with some sort of knowledge know if this threshold is used to decide HPAL vs regular WL or Acceptance vs all waitlist groups? I assume that everyone below the threshold gets either rejected or low-priority WL, and only the top X% of those above the threshold get accepted. If someone could confirm if that is correct, I'd very much appreciate it!

Hmmm. Many twists and turns with these guys. The "highest of the high priority" was reported by several people over the past few years. Beyond that, different language in the notifications for people in the same tier was not. Unless something changes, it just doesn't matter, since they have taken so few people off the highest priority HPWL, and no one else, for the past two cycles.

As for MMI thresholds, I'm also not sure it really matters. They are certainly scored, and that score surely goes into the mix. It's unlikely the MMI score by itself, however, determines anything, but who really knows? Where did you hear otherwise? It's extremely unlikely that anyone who actually knows would tell us anything here that the school has not publicly disclosed through its website or information sessions.

I agree that the language seems totally different for everyone. In my email, they never used the word waitlist and instead called it a "highly competitive category", "competitive hold category" "quite likely to be accepted" ... why the different use of language and how can you measure the odds of you getting an actual acceptance? Does anyone know if it was like this the past years?

In prior cycles, I have not seen a discussion regarding the finer points of the language used in notifications. I really wouldn't read too much into it, since people posting on SDN are not especially careful in their use of phrases like "alternate," "hold" and WL. We all tend to use them interchangeably, since at the end of the day they all lead to exactly the same place.

@someqsaboutstuff receiving a HPAL email that did not include the language in your email about the likelihood of being called is a new twist that was not reported in years past. Unless something changes, none of this tea leaf reading is going to matter, since only a tiny handful or people who reported being in the "highest" of the HPAL reported being accepted the past two cycles! 🙂

@someqsaboutstuff -- can you confirm that your e-mail uses the phrase "high priority"? I only ask because, other than saying HPAL, the language in your e-mail seems to track what they used in prior cycles for the regular "alternate list." So, if your e-mail does use the phrase "high priority," either that might be a mistake, or the omission of the language regarding the likelihood of an acceptance might be. It's also important to remember that these are all just forms. It's not like anyone is individually typing these out, so it's also possible your form just got corrupted before they sent it to you.

I got an OOS II at 10:07am this morning! I lived in Jersey for 8 years so good connection to the state. The soonest available interview was March 7th and there didn't seem to be any other interviews for March. I didn't check April. What a happy Christmas surprise I would love to go here!

My email says "high priority" 3 times. Agree that reading into the specific verbage probably isn't useful

I don't think interviewing in March conflicts with issuing acceptances then. Of course, they can also accept people later if they miss the cut-off for a March decision, like they will with anyone coming off the WL.
 
I applied to RWJ last cycle and have some insight about some of these topics. Regarding when they send out decisions, they release them once in December and again in March. I interviewed during the last week of interviews which was middle of March and they sent out decisions about a week after my interview. I think they will do the same this cycle, sending out decisions a week or two after the last interview date. They will then start sending out acceptances again as spots become available in mid April up until the first day of classes.

Regarding the types of waitlist, there are 3:
1. Highest high priority waitlist (top 10 of the high priority waitlist)
2. High priority waitlist
3. Regular waitlist

Once spots open up they will go down the highest HPWL. Once they go through those 10 individuals I am unsure how they then choose applicants. Regarding chances of coming off waitlist, it’s different from cycle to cycle but for last cycle I am pretty sure they did not even make it through their highest HPWL. Over the last 3 years or so there hasn’t been a ton waitlist movement here. Not sure if that’s because they’re over accepting each year or because a very high percentage of accepted students end up matriculating, but either way waitlist movement hasn’t been that great here the last few years. Hope this helps clarify some things

Do you remember when you received the ii for the last week of interviews?
 
If RWJ accepts half of its class in March, does this also mean that RWJ has half of the interview invites left to give out?

HIGHLY unlikely. The first II reported on SDN was on 7/29. The last one was last week, and they were already scheduling for the first week of March.

Given the fact that they have already been interviewing for 5 months (August-December), there are only 3 months left between now and the end of March, and that they were scheduling IIs last week for the first week of March, I'd say they are waaay more than half done issuing IIs. Just based on the raw numbers, it looks like they have 3 weeks of interviews remaining out of a potential total of 34 from August through March (allowing for a break during the last week). As a result, they probably have around 10% of IIs left to give out.

No, but, if they interview until the end of March and are now scheduling for the first week of March, they probably only have about 3 weeks left to schedule. Plus, they will be filling in for anyone who cancels. They have 3 months out of 8 left to go, but they have already scheduled 9+ of the remaining 13 or so weeks, so they only have 3+ weeks, or 10% of the total, left to schedule.

Not quite. If they send out 530 IIs, there are probably around 50 +/- left to go, plus however many people cancel between now and the end. I don't think they do silent Rs. When they are done, they'll send out actual Rs.
 
Pre-II R around 10 AM PST.

I honestly only knew about this school thru my cousin who did residency here after going to Ross. Thought I could shoot my shot and apply here. lol

Looks like it, and you're still in the game!!! While reporting on SDN is staggered, I have found that the e-mails tend to be automated, and the so-called waves (IIs or Rs) all tend to come in a very short period of time. If someone reports receiving a notification at 10:00 a.m. and you haven't received it by early afternoon, you are probably not in that wave.

Yes! I interviewed at both (in-state) and I'm sure plenty of people do since they are similar and both state schools.
For context, I've been accepted to RWJMS and have not heard from NJMS even though I interviewed there in September.
 
Was the Student Panel pretty informal? I'm not going to be home and wonder if I need to bring nice attire to where I'll join from

Yep! it was a pretty informal thing. I would still recommend wearing something put together if you can though - no need to be suited up or anything

I got the emails about the pre MMI info session & the Student Panel around a week before my actual interview.
 
Geez, they’re sending out rejections at night. Hope I’m not next in line. I’ve also been complete since July. Good luck to you bro
