2021-2022 UC Davis

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm IS also pending secondary w/ 3.9x GPA 517 MCAT. Anyone else waiting on a secondary? Should I be worried?
I am also waiting for secondary.

IS, LizzyM 78, international applicant.

Is it worth sending an email to the admissions committee?

For those of you still waiting, I submitted my primary to UCD on June 29th and I just got my secondary today. I think they're just being slow about it.

If you submit the secondary but have a pending LOR, does it get considered for review once it's finally submitted?

Again, UC Davis has two methods of giving secondaries. The first is an automatic screen. If you pass the automatic screen you will get a secondary quickly (within 24-48 hours), as evidenced by premed5124. If you do not pass the automated screen, then your primary application is forwarded to a human, and they can decide whether or not give you a secondary (can take weeks to months). This is evidenced by the delay in yourfuturedoctor receiving a secondary nearly a month after being verified.

Hi! Did you get a confirmation email from UCD saying they received your application/are processing it before you got your secondary?

Would the automatic screen involve the SJT? I have not completed it, and am wondering if it's holding my app up.

no, I got a secondary before completing SJT. Also, SJT technically is not even required to be complete, let alone get a secondary (it's just highly recommended)

In a webinar sponsored by the AAMC earlier this spring, a representative of the admissions office noted that the SJT will only be used after the interviews are completed and can only help one's final application. It won't be looked at before the end of the process.

About this automatic screen, does anyone know what exactly is in it? I’m a MD applicant, high stats, no IA, primary app verified and complete since the first day, all LORs sent, SJT done and sent, and am IS (although not NorCal). Would residency be what’s holding me back in this automatic screening?

Are you missing anything like clinical hours, volunteering, etc.?

I'm in your boat - high stats, no IA, primary verified/complete in June, LORs in, IS, not missing clinical/volunteering (except np SJT, my blunder there).
I am also thinking that residency might be holding me back because I am currently living in a different state, but am a legal CA resident.

i finally got one. low stats, IA, criminal background, IS.

Any idea when Davis starts rolling out IIs? Website says interviews START in mid August but it's already end of July and to my (limited) knowledge, IIs haven't been sent out to anyone yet.

I still haven't gotten a secondary. I'm from NorCal. Anyone know how their screening works?

Still no secondary and getting concerned... IS, good stats, verified 6/25, went to a UC school

Yea - not sure what is happening. I was wondering if anyone had reached out to them yet?

I got a secondary and sent it in a long time ago. Maybe 3 to 4 weeks. I have low stats, IA, criminal background, and no "systemic barriers" (lol) so I doubt I will get in.

Same here. Verified the first day, high stats, IS (So-cal), went to a UC school, and still no secondary. App shouldn’t be missing anything either

Interview invite received today (8/3)! In state, ORM, LizzyM 80.

Woo!! Good luck with interviews! Do they assign you a date or are you given a choice between a range of dates?
Thank you! I was allowed to choose a date on a calendar, but there was weirdly just one date open (in August) so maybe it's actually assigned? You also get to choose between the morning or afternoon MMI circuit.

Any idea on the deciding factors for the automatic screen? Still waiting - have good stats and submitted early.

do i need the situational judgement test to receive a secondary invite?

No, its still technically optional and, if you do take it, wont be considered until admissions decision after an interview.

I think stats play a small role in passing the screen. I think they care more about experiences/background/ties to the area in the automatic screen. But, I honestly can't say for certain.

Do you guys know if we need to take SJT to receive an interview. I know it's only strongly recommended, but I likely won't be able to take it until late this fall.

In a webinar last April, the Admissions Director noted that SJT results will only be considered at the end of the cycle after interviews are completed; it will have no bearing on anything until the very end of the process.

Anyone else just get an "Application Received" email from Davis? Submitted primary first day, app was complete from Day 1 too lol

"OUR AUTO MESSAGE FOR APPLICATION RECEIVED CONFIRMATION WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY (AS OF 8/5/2021). YOU MAY BE RECEIVING THIS MESSAGE LATE, BUT YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN WITH US SINCE YOUR AMCAS VERIFICATION DATE."

Seems like it was an error?
