Can anyone who has already interviewed tell me if the interviews were open or closed file?

Technically it’s closed file, but it’s an MMI so they’re not asking you questions about your app unless it’s relevant to the scenario being presented

I was told on interview day that it’s spaced so you never have two exams in one week and you often have just one exam for every two weeks.

Current M1! We have a block schedule, so our exams are every 2-2.5 weeks. Its really great to only have to focus on one class/topic at one time!

I sent an update after my interviews, and I sent thank you letters as well! Last year, they were out of the office due to Covid so an email was sufficient.

I sent it to my specific interviewers and the main admissions person for my intro session! I emailed and asked for their full names, so I could make sure they were addressed by their proper titles.

I'm hoping to maybe wow them with the interview, but I saw that they have a low post-II acceptance rate. Do they not value the interview that highly?

According to the 2021 data, their post II acceptance rate is above 50% which is actually high relative to other schools. As wysdoc said, you can also see this in MSAR's matriculant data.

Well according to @TheDataKing's 2021 data here it looks like its 60% for OOS students which is pretty good!

I'm in-state so I'm looking at the 46% acceptance post interview which I just assumed was not that high, especially since there are a ton of "green" cells on that page with rates in the 70% +, even other virginia schools like UVA.

Honestly 46% is not bad even for in-state students. Consider that many medical schools have between a 20-39% post-II acceptance. Also keep in mind these are objective numbers which don't reflect an extremely subjective process. You may have a 90%-100% chance of getting in somewhere with a fair interview because you are what that particular school is looking for in a prospective student. As @Goro and many others say here at the point of the interview it is your acceptance to lose. Leave the hesitation at the door as how they will potentially be using your interview performance vs. stats is out of your hands. Focus that energy on nailing the interview since you're in a spot many applicants with no interviews covet. Good luck friend! I had a great interview experience at VCU and I'm listening to my own advice and hoping to report back with good news March 1st myself.

I am so, so hopeful that this is legit but would be absolutely devastated if this was just a phishing email. Also, the interview is scheduled for March 1st in the morning. Would I just be interviewing for a WL position at this point?

Congrats! I got it as an update notification through the portal. I'm assuming they're just directly emailing for their last set of interviews?

I got my II through an email with the date and time and after I confirmed, the response email was that my portal would be updated in 24 hours. So don’t worry, it’s real! Congrats!

I had a December interview and I got my II through an email - No portal update until after I confirmed.

What’s the MMI like here? Are they like when they interviewer is an actor and we act it all out, or do they simply present the scenario and you respond what you would do?

And during the beginning where it’s like a “traditional” interview, is it open or close file?

Close file and no actors. You just get presented with a scenario and respond.

No signs to tell you that you’re in but being put on hold for possible acceptance is obviously better than being waitlisted or rejected at that initial voting.

sorry- hate being that guy. But no one is waitlisted at the meeting. You are either rejected for put on hold. Many people with the hold for acceptance will end up on waitlist. And some will be rejected when the waitlist is formed.
