2022-2023 Baylor

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
II received today! IS, LM 75, complete 07/16. All the pre-interview socials seem extremely fun, and I am excited to attend Baylor's, especially after what everyone in this chat has said about it 🙂

Any current BCM students willing to speak to me privately about any community health research/initiatives going on at the school? I’m super excited to be interviewing and would like to hear a little more about the opportunities for those interested in family medicine/primary care/community health.

Thank you I’m advance!

Unless one gets rejected in the first review meeting or selected for admission, people keep getting discussed during each review to see if they are better than the people being considered during that specific review or else no one gets admitted 2-3 months after if they have fully been screened out.

Anyone submitted like mid July and still hasn't heard back? Is this pretty much a soft R?

does baylor provide info on interviewers to those that interview?
The day before you interview, you are given the names of your interviewers on the AMP portal under the interview tab. However, one of my interviewers was switched three times (I had person X and person Y but person Y was switched to Z then B then C; so I didn't interview with Y). So check your portal every 6 hours to see if your interviewers are constant.

Only saw a late October slot. No other options, not sure if preassigned or just lots of later times were selected.
Thanks. Schools try to control opening up slots before existing ones are filled. They might take special requests due to conflicts for a later date.

Yup this has been the best experience I’ve had so far. Purely asked questions about my life and application, no random ethical scenarios. I absolutely positively LOVED the vibe here. The interviewers were SO nice, both of mine were from Temple, I was a little bit hesitant about temple but after speaking with them I’m SOLD. Sounds like an amazing experience.

what are Baylor people doing in Temple?

@texasvandy, read about it here: #52
It will be a second location for Baylor, and will have 40 students a year.
Dr wysdoc I am more curious who these people are already at Temple since there is no school yet (transplanted future educators or current practicing doctors in Temple or transfers from A&M to Baylor who will be affiliated with BMC when school starts).

This is a bunch of info I've heard from several sources. Anyone feel free to correct me. There is a large BSW medical center in Temple, which Baylor is partnering with to build this new campus. There's already a pool of physician educators there from the fellowship/residency programs the hospital is involved with and they're used to med students from A&M. My two interviewers were practicing BSW physicians who mentioned that they would be educators/coordinators for the new campus suggesting that Baylor will be pulling from the physicians already there. I'm sure they'll also attract more talent from elsewhere as they build out the program.

I think it was a great idea to have some of the interviewers be from Temple. When they are engaging and make a good impression at an interview, it helps more applicants see it as a good training location.

From what I remember, the dean from temple campus (i think) was there. Also, some physicians from temple were interviewing. Ofc no students from temple yet.

Anyone know where to find info on the new curriculum? Can’t seem to find it on any of the documents they sent to interviewees. I was curious to see if there was a summer break between MS1 and MS2. From the looks of it on the presentation it seems like that there isn’t one. Forgot to ask during the interview so if anyone knows, please share!

To finish in 1 year, they definitely wont give a break. In theory, 1 year is more closer to saying you get no summer but instead of december you finish in august. whatever @skeptastic was comparing between Dell and UTH applies here.

Yep! You might get a week in the summer just to breathe as quickly as possible, but I imagine that 1-year preclinical has to involve little more than a winter and spring break, making it a true 11 months. Not quite as insane as it sounds when you realize that most 18-month curriculums have summers off and are more like 14-15 months depending on the start date, but yeah... still pretty insane haha!

rip my dreams for a beach vacation

how would yall recommend preparing for this interview?
honestly it was super chill, I didn’t really prep and I wouldn’t consider myself the best interviewer.

I just told a bunch of stories from my life, they did start off the conversation talking about my gap year activity that I wrote on my secondary but the conversation took a lot of turns. Ended up talking about video games for about 5 minutes at one point, they seemed to like that - touch wood.

Interviews always depend on the interviewer. So most times they want to put you at ease and discuss about you but sometimes you will run into one who takes an adversarial position where they want you to convince them that you should be at their school. So not everyone has the same experiences in personal interviews. Assume the best but you should not be put off by an aggressive interviewer.

For people interviewing tomorrow have y'all gotten an email for the zoom link and schedule yet?

For anyone who RSVPed for open house, did you get a confirmation email or anything? I did one for Houston and Temple, but haven’t received any confirmation. This was last week btw.

Nope I haven’t received anything and I’m planning on going next week….

Where do we sign up for open house? I just received info about the student session on Zoom?

An email was sent over to me before my interview (seems to have disappeared from my inbox though) and I got another email this morning about it. I think they send them out based on your interview date but I could be wrong

Anyone know if they're going to use NBME exam questions when they switch to this new curriculum?
