This is making me so upset lol, I remember them saying at the interview day that us early interviewees had a very high chance of being accepted post-deferral but here we are

Sorry about that, just wanted to report what my neurotic brain is finding.

Would honestly be way nicer to just cut us loose instead of stringing us along for ~175 days as of now. Prob around 300 days when we're free from the shackles of hope.

Honestly not even upset at this point. I gave up hope I am getting an A a long time ago. Been prepping for an mcat retake and gonna gear up to reapply.

Is there a chance that those who interviewed early ended up interviewing elsewhere later and withdrawing from the WL? I know only a subset of applicants post on here so it may be biased one way or another (though I don't want to give false hope either lol)

I'm sure there are plenty of accepted students who will turn down the offer.

I was waiting for my Financial Aid to come through, and it turns out I'm getting nada. I wanted to see if I could scholarship match Drexel with another school but guess not, turning over my seat you 🙂

If you guys want more info, on page 35 of last years sdn there is an interview date, defer date, A date excel spreadsheet.

It can give you guys hope but I just wanna say be wary of too much hope.

Yes, it is not only possible but very likely that those who did not hear back from Drexel for half a year, had interviewed and been accepted elsewhere, leading them to remove themselves from consideration.

But if you assume that sdn reporting % is pretty similar across the cycle. (i.e. it is equally likely that someone reports early in the cycle vs. late), then it seems like there is a pretty clear bias toward accepting later applicants from the waitlist rather than very early ones who they had plenty of time to consider and over and over again decided not to accept.

edit: This on top of the fact that they would rather accept a deferred applicant who **literally** withdrew their application before they accept me is not a great feeling.

Saw that but doesn't seem very helpful as it is extremely lacking in sample size and doesn't have a date of acceptance.

This led me down a lil rabbit hole and I saw based on last year's forum that people who interviewed late Jan early Feb heard back around late March/early April 🙃

In other words, make yourselves comfortable we're gonna be here a while lmao

How old are these posts? That's one thing to consider when you're reading the disgruntled complaints of the few - for example, Hahnemann closing in 2019-2020 barely affected students and mostly affected residents who were doing their residency there. I don't know that people were probably inconvenienced by it, but if you were a student then, you'd have easily just been placed at another one of Drexel's pre-existing rotation sites. The hospital before closing only ever got a small subset of the entire class rotating through there anyways. Drexel's large class size at the Philly campus made it so that a "main teaching hospital" didn't see more than a small percentage of the class anyways, so shifting gears for these students to be placed elsewhere in subsequent years was a simple enough fix.

But the bottom line is, any current applicant entering Drexel would be far removed from the main teaching hospital closing and this would be, for lack of a better word, old news. Moved on, so to speak. Current Philly students get access to the rotation sites that already existed whether it be in outpatient settings or year long hospital sites through the lottery system. And West Reading students get their own "main teaching hospital" at Reading Hospital. If you were thinking of any home field advantage for having a "main teaching hospital," you still get a similar effect with connections built with the residency directors at your sites, regardless of whether there is an official "main teaching hospital" stamp all over it. And Reading Hospital itself is expanding their residency and fellowship seats and has a commitment to accept students within Drexel for residency seats so I don't see that there's anything to worry about in this aspect for the next few years that this would be applicable to any of you.

Administration complaints aren't unique to Drexel. Your experience at any medical school with regards to administration will be similar enough. If you find an overbearing, mental health/diversity and inclusion/academic counseling focused administration to be bad, then yeah maybe you won't like it at Drexel. But any medical school wants you to graduate if not for you then for their own personal gain, and you'd only be there for four years to "deal" with it. Not to say that Drexel or its rotation situation are perfect - far from it - but if you're worried about getting an education befitting of the MD degree this institute grants you, I wouldn't be.

Although things seem bleak at the moment, anything can happen from now and beyond. It is understandable to be proactive and prep for a reapp, but this cycle is not over until it is over with an official R. Good things will come your way. I am sure of it. I am wishing you the best with your journey of becoming a physician and making an impact on those in need of help 🙂

hey deferred peeps:

so i emailed admissions (in a fit of panic) to ask about deferred applications and i got this slightly heartening response. even though it seems like they HAVE reviewed some deferred applications, maybe they haven't reviewed all of them just yet. who knows! i know this doesn't necessarily say anything about whether we'll actually get in, but i think it can provide a little clarity in these confusing times. it calmed me down, at least.

Doesn't that just mean deferred applicants are waitlisted? According to them, deferred applicants are considered at every meeting alongside people who haven't heard back.

That email indicates they won't be looked at till everyone else has a decision. i.e. waitlisted.

i don't think those are the same thing. i think the email means what it means: haven't been looked at. she didn't say they were waiting until everyone had gotten their decision to look at them, either. i also specifically mentioned the possibility of being waitlisted in my email.

there's a possibility i'm wrong, but all i'm saying is i think we just don't know yet.
 
How long is Drexel taking to get back with decisions? in the interview they said 6-8 weeks but are people hearing back earlier or is this time frame accurate?
 
For accepted students, does anyone know the time frame on them letting us know what campus we would be at? Wondering if they would let us know that closer to now or closer to May/June...?

Dropping in here to address some of the concerns over Drexel's administration. I'm an M1, so I can't speak to the full experience of all 4 years at DUCOM, but my personal experience has been surprisingly amazing. I say surprisingly because I thought medical school was going to be this brutal and demoralizing experience, but I've found quite the opposite at Drexel. I find the administration to be very receptive and supportive. The curriculum here is sooooo good. I don't rely on outside resources at all. Our M1 lectures and in person sessions are fantastic. The student culture here is a dream. I've heard that you have to rely on outside resources more as an M2, but so far things are great and I haven't heard any complaints from the M2s. I'm at the West Reading campus (aka Best Reading) and I have zero complaints. I put preference for philly but was placed here, and I'm so glad I was! For rotations we will be rotating through Tower Health sites that are in the area. We will mostly be at Reading Hospital which is a 700+ bed hospital with a growing number of residency programs. We've been told that it will be easier for us to get those residency spots at Reading Hospital because our connections there and ability to network there. With that said, West Reading only has two full time class cohorts here so far, so we haven't been able to see how that plays out. Overall, I have absolutely no concerns about DUCOM or the WR campus.

DUCOM's website states, "Campus assignments will be shared via the applicant portal after March 30."
