2022-2023 Drexel

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey guys, to anyone that did not receive the open house email please see the link/dates below. I recently left my secondary hidey hole to lurk on these forums and noticed no one shared it here. Brian (Drexel Admissions Team member ) encouraged us to share it around bc they have the technical issue of not being able to send mass emails to all the applicants. The next/last summer one (there will be more in the fall!) is this upcoming Thursday. Hopefully some find this helpful and good luck 🙂
--------------
We are back with the Virtual Open House Series and we want you to be there! The dates for the event are listed below and will always begin at 6pm EST. We hope to see you there!

Here is the link to use for every date:

https://drexel.zoom.us/j/85278607455

If you can't make it to one date don't worry! We will have more open houses to connect with you this Fall! Here are the dates below!

Tuesday 8/9 – Trust the Process

Wednesday 8/17 – Interview Do’s and Don’t’s

Thursday 8/25 – Student Panel

Edit: If I get the Fall zoom link, I'll come back to post that one too!

Just wondering, if anyone here went to the open house, did Drexel confirm that they have not sent any IIs?

It revealed more than I knew previously about their service-based philosophy! Their mission statement and secondary didn't convey that as clearly as Temple's did, for example. Now wishing I wrote a Why Drexel essay instead of a COVID essay for the optional question.
You can always convey “why Drexel” through an update! That’s what I did last cycle and am currently an MS1 here.

hi everyone! i'm a current M1 here at Drexel and I'd be more than happy to answer any of your questions about DUCOM!! I was in your shoes a year ago so I know what you're feeling in terms of stress, anxiety, etc. so I just wanted to reach out and be of help to those who may want to learn a bit more about Drexel!

My question is how has the Hahnemann closure affected the medical students? Is it still easy to find rotations nearby or do you have to travel a long way away? Thanks for taking the time to help out!

honestly, speaking to other medical students/faculty the closure of Hahnemann didn't affect 3rd-year rotations too much as not everyone would do their rotations there (I also think only a few rotations were available through Hahnemann). Drexel has tons of affiliations with hospitals across Philly and PA that students can rotate through. However, I have heard of some 3rd years having to drive like 40 minutes outside of Philly for some rotations, but I really think it depends on what hospitals you do your rotations at. Also, students have the choice to do their entire 3rd-year rotations at one of several regional campuses affiliated with Drexel (such as Kaiser Permanente in CA's Bay Area, the Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, etc.)

Shameless plug for the West Reading campus, but it pretty much addresses all of the "concerns" floating around SDN/Reddit about Drexel. Even for Philly, though, Hahnemann closed in 2019 and has little to no bearing for current or future residents, let alone students.

Specifically for the WR campus, though, there is effectively a dedicated hospital for this campus who is thrilled to have students there and physicians there hold many leadership positions at Drexel. These students have dibs on their hospital for third/fourth year rotations (meaning no lottery, no moving from your pre-clinical location), tons of clinical research that the residents would love to pawn off to students, ridiculously small class size, and little to none of the admin bs that you may or may not encounter at the Philly campus. Only downside so far has been fewer recreational clubs specific to this campus and the major events (formals, ceremonies, socials) are held in Philly, but the student interest groups/associations are all school-wide. And you can claim a leadership position to these clubs just by being the liaison to the WR campus lol. Not to mention the start-up leadership potential is enormous, since the hospital physicians are very friendly and open to collaborations with students.

I’m from Reading and the area the school is in is very nice. The cost of living is also much lower than Philly which is always nice

Have there been any Rs for this school yet? I'm trying to figure out if silence is an R or if they're sending out actual Rs

idk if you are joking or not, but all the sessions are optional. I doubt they care who comes or not.

Also, if any of you attended the student panel today, any details worth sharing?
Usually receive 13,000 applicants, interviews 1,600, finishes reviewing all applicants by December. Open-file for staff, closed-file for students. This was a student panel, and they said pls be chill in your interviews b/c they just wanna know if you'd be a fun classmate.

Super receptive to updates (that should be "significant"), recommends sending additional LORs. Drexel strongly cares about being involved in the community, being a teammate, and having interpersonal relationships, so your updates should reflect that. Not much a research school which was emphasized a few times across the multiple info sessions *criesinresearchheavyapp*

thank you!! didn't know they interviewed more than 10% of the applicants. that's great to hear

did they say anything about when interviews will start coming out?
I don't recall them saying a specific date, even though it was asked several times in the chat. Someone else tho can pls inform us if they did. Maybe I was just zoning out. But they confirmed they haven't sent their first R wave in last week's info session, and that "hold" means your app will be reviewed again in Dec or Jan, so I'm guessing for people on hold right now, try to look for something meaningful you want to update them on before Dec or Jan

waiiit, first R wave? not II? Doesn't drexel usually 'ghost' until March/April to mass reject? 😳......

When they say “have smth meaningful to update” what does that mean exactly? Like new LOR? New experiences that you’re doing during the app cycle??

At my session it was said that there will be some Rs after IIs start coming out. The guy said they’re trying to make sure the hold list is a legit hold list that has a better chance and start rejecting more people earlier on.

Honestly i kind of prefer this. It’s terrifying to think about being counted out so early but also if they already know they aren’t going to move forward with me, i think i would rather know sooner rather than later

Just to clarify, does that mean they’re going to send out R’s to people who have holds (thin out the hold list) or send R’s to people who don’t have holds (as in, reject applicants that they don’t even want to hold in the first place)?

I believe he meant R’s to those with no hold and hold means your safe until they review those apps again in December/January

did anyone else get any interview offers from here yet? now that one has been posted, i would have expected a torrent of posts lol
On the same line of thinking, has anyone received an R ? I was under the impression that the first R wave would go out with the first II wave but its been pretty silent on SDN 🤔
