Regarding "let you know as October dates open up," is this to imply that October is currently booked full and they will let you know if people cancel and vacate spots, or to imply that they have not released any October interview dates as of yet?
Based on what they told me when I needed to schedule a different date for my first interview day, I believe they open up interviews on a week-by-week basis. They definitely do this for the traditional interview, so maybe they also do this for the group one. So each week they will let you know what openings they have for future weeks. That's how I interpreted it, but didn't ask for specifics since they emailed me a response and I felt confident that they'd let me know future dates.

I feel terribly about this, but is it unwise to withdraw my application or reject the interview? Truthfully, I had always planned to rank UTRGV last on my list due to location alone. With the in person interview, I feel even more inclined to do this. I’m just not sure it is smart to do so, given the “take what you can get” mentality. I have received interviews from 7 other texas MDs, all of which I would rank above UTRGV. I feel like I did well in every interview thus far. Should I withdraw my application?
My recommendation is to state you have issues traveling until later in October and hope to match by then before withdrawing.

OTOH, you can go with your gut and withdraw if you dont want to travel and wont rank it above the places you already interviewed at. This would have been a hard decision when you had only one or two interviews but easy when you have 7. Consider it a service you are providing to people who want the interview slot and would be very happy to replace you. As we discussed before, you will have good Karma and UTSW will bless you!

Well put. Thanks!

II received this morning with dates open all next week. It's going to be tough figuring out logistics as I work out of state but should be alright. First TMDSAS interview 🙂

Complete 7/7

Am I understanding correctly that the first interview day is remote and we are only needed in-person if invited to the group interview?

I believe the interview is divided into two parts: remote and in person. Both are required.

What I’m trying to figure out is when I need to travel. It seems like the in-person date will be communicated later on but I just want to be sure.

I just emailed the admissions team about the in-person group interview. They responded in 2 minutes lol. They said the in-person interview will take place sometime in October. They will try to notify us with as much anticipation as they can (as soon as they release dates).
Thats correct. You will receive an invite for that later.
Thank you both for clearing it up. I’m looking forward to visiting in the future.

Does anyone know that the virtual interview is like? I see MMI but I am not sure if it is MMI or having a conversation with the interviewers?

This year they are doing 2 individual remote interviews, one on one. They will give you the times for each one

It wasn’t MMI but for me, both interviewers started with an ethical question/situation and then went on to ask questions about myself

Does anyone know what time the interview is? I have the virtual one next week, but can’t find any info on time in the portal?

They will reach out to you before the interview and provide you with the time for both interviews. For me it was two days before my interview.
Yep same here. One of my unterviewers switched like a day before so be aware of that if you are one to do any background on your interviewer.

To those who withdrew your app before interview from SHSU or any other DO school, how does it appear on your TMDSAS or school portal?

Pretty sure that’s just a typo. My portal had the same thing (MMI) with the 2 interviewers listed. Ultimately it was just 2 traditional interviews.

I believe there is no change at all. So, the last status you should see when you hover over the school is the date of transmission. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know.

Super stoked to have received an early decision acceptance. Best of luck to everyone interviewing for regular decision. The school is beautiful and the valley is a lovely area.
Congratulations on your early decision acceptance!

Do you know how many they admitted early?

Does anyone know how many students they will be accepting this upcoming class?

I have not submitted my secondary app. yet. I have no ties to the region as I am from a different part of Texas. Should I even apply to this school?

To UTRGV ED applicants:
If you were not offered admission, as some people were on September 30, were you given a message that you were not accepted in the ED round?
Those not admitted are free to apply to the other TMDSAS schools now. It is not automatic, though.
To apply to the other TMDSAS schools, after being released from UTRGV (no acceptance):
Message TMDSAS in your portal and tell them which schools you would like your TMDSAS primary forwarded to.
TMDSAS deadline for submitting the primary is November 1.

II! No connections to South Texas and not hispanic so pleasantly surprised. Question: is everyone who does the virtual interviews invited to the in-person interviews?

Gotcha. About how long after the virtual interview was the in-person for you? I'm curious because I'll probably have to fly there.

Mine was a week later, it's a quick turn around. There are three airports you can fly into 🙂

I think it's interesting how RGV's interview process is so much longer than other TX schools. Same with the secondary. It really feels like they're putting a lot of effort into crafting their class!

I interviewed a few weeks ago and have yet to receive an invite to the in person session. They may only be holding these once (or so) a month. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the only in person date so far for regular decision applicants was on the 30th of September, correct?

I received an email reply from them today letting me know that they still haven't decided on the next in-person interview date, but would let me know when they did. I couldn't swing the 9/30 date.

Just push it off until after October 15th..

I'm really hoping they let us know soon. I've been keeping my weekends open since I need a day to travel there and the group interviews are always a Friday or Saturday.

I’m glad they gave us more details this time! I signed up for a date.

I'm also planning on the 21st and need to move ahead with making travel arrangements. Wish they would move a little faster with it as I have to plan time off of work and book flights.

How long after your virtual interview were you able to sign up for the in-person ones?
