Hiii I’m late to the secondary game lol but for UCSF if you apply to their prime program (US) are you considered for the MD program if not accepted? Or is it like you have to be accepted to the MD to be considered for PRIME

Secondary Invitation 11/27
LM of 72 nontrad, not URM, confused as to why I got this opportunity with bad stats. Only X factor is that I'm a Fulbright Scholar and I'm old (grad school, dropped out of phd program and left with masters, in industry now). I grew up in San Francisco so this is obviously my dream school.

From what I read, around 9000 people apply and only around 1200 get a secondary, 500 are interviewed, and 240 or so are admitted with 120 matriculating. I might have a 50% shot of getting an interview invite and a 20% chance of getting accepted, if my secondary is perfect.

I think I'm going to hire a secondary editor from fiverr to make sure I don't mess this up.

LM of 72 is not bad stats!! If they sent you a secondary, then you peaked their interest. Good luck!

I don't know if those statistics are right (if they were from the same source I got mine from).

Theres a guy in this thread with a LM of 84, so a 528 MCAT and a 4.0, and he was also an URM. Truly insane competition.

In a way it's very flattering to be considered as an equal to a guy like that by an admissions committee. But at the same time it's hard to see how they could compare us. I feel that I will need to lean in to my personality and writing style, as my accomplishments aren't as impressive as other applicants.

Congrats on the secondary! Curious to where you got these numbers from- I’ve seen other numbers tossed around that are closer to 9000->2500->500 but never seen any definitive evidence or proof. Of course I’d prefer a 50% chance of interview lol

I had googled it on my phone, this was the source:

"Hopefully I can be of some help. In the past, there are between 4500 and 5000 primary applications that are received. From those, they send secondaries to 1400-1500 applicants."

This was an SDN post from 2002, so the numbers appear to have doubled from 4500 to 9000 applicants, and interpolating for this the number of secondaries might be 3000. But a lot changes in 20 years, maybe the number is completely off.

Hmm, thanks for this. Either way, 500 interviews out of ~2500-3000 is a VERY good chance. Good luck to everyone who is still in the running.
 
After submitting a secondary, are we supposed to receive an “application completion” email? I just realized I never received one even tho my portal says my application is ready

I didn't go to their info session bc of work, but interview day was nice. We had a presentation and student panel at the beginning and two 1 on 1 interviews in the afternoon. There was also an optional Q&A with LMSA students after interviews. It was a JMP/MD day but I would suppose interview days for other programs are not that different.

It looks like the conversion rate is about 47% or so, you can click the dropdown to see in versus out of-state.

man you did Fulbright.. AND 72 isn’t bad at all… AND you grew up in SF. this is neuroticism at its finest, you deserve the secondary.

Ah gotcha, np, was your complete date around late August? Also with 10 II you're still absolutely killing it this cycle and you're bound to hear back from a bunch of other great places!

My primary was verified mid-july. LM 74. Just got the secondary on 11/27 (IS applicant).

Submitted primary first possible day, LM 76, and received secondary 7/26
 
Anyone have tips for the secondary essays?
The third prompt has me stumped.
 
Sorry if this has been asked but does anyone have a good estimate of how many secondaries get sent out vs total applicants? Like how big of a deal is it to get a secondary here

It says "do you identify..." If you dont then be honest and say you dont. But you can then talk about something you've seen in your clinical experience as to how others are impacted, so they know you know inequities exist etc. Just my thoughts.

I dont think it was a mistake. If you dont identify, you dont identify, and thats what they asked. For me, im writing about myself. If I didnt have anything to add, I would personally write more just because that's who I am lol I'm neurotic for sure 🤣
