I also interviewed on Tuesday and got the call a few hours later! They sent my acceptance letter the next morning 🙂 very grateful 🙂

Congrats! Wow, unbelievably fast. Any advice you can offer about how to get ready for the interview? What can you share about the experience?

I'm not IS but have immediate family living in Ohio. Would this be enough for them to consider me? Lol

Congrats to those that got an A! How long before you interviewed did you get the invite for Il? I know they interview on Tuesdays but how much before do they send invite and do they give multiple day options or just one? Anything else you can tell us about the interview process? Thanks!

Mine was around a month out, and they gave me one time and day.

Make sure you can relate to their mission and talk about why you want to become an osteopathic physician! Everyone was super nice and I was able to have good conversations 🙂 so just be yourself and relax!

I got my invite about 3 weeks before I interviewed, and they sent an email saying I’ll be interviewing in a certain day. If you need to interview on a different day, you have to email them!

Congrats! That was fast. What can you share about the interview? Can you offer any advice about how to prepare for the interview?
Very relaxed environment for all three of my interviews. They were all super conversational. My advice is super cliche but seriously there's no reason to worry. The questions were standard and my interviewers couldn't wait to get them out of the way so we could just talk. I'd say biggest thing is just being your genuine self.

I second this. This could not be more accurate about how my interview went today.

Is it too late to apply right now? In-state, have ties to Cleveland. I heard the branches are a lot more competitive (require higher stats)?

Not too late! But I'd recommend applying sooner rather than later for sure. The Cleveland and Dublin campuses are only more "competitive" in that they have about half the seats of the Athens campus (CLE - 64, DUB - 72, ATH - 124).

hi everyone, does anyone know if they screen for sending out TCC secondaries? i sent my regular OU-HCOM secondary on 07/04 and was complete first week of august (late committee letter). i just received an invitation to complete today, but I don't know if they send it to anybody who shows interest, or if they do some screening before doing it.

How long do they take to send out Secondaries? I submitted mine last week. I'm an Ohio resident.

Does HCOM give students anything when they matriculate? I.e, should we budget to get a stethoscope, otoscope, etc
As of this Autumn 2024, they no longer provide stethoscopes to matriculants (which were donated by alumni), so that money is now redistributed elsewhere towards our education. Class of 2027 was the final class to get a donated stethoscope.

School provides a list of suggested equipment. You should budget for equipment, and they will provide a breakdown and explain the financial aid/loans. They also no longer do the equipment sale since it really wasn't much of a cost savings for students.

Most folks have a Littmann, typically the Cards IV or III. The second-most popular (for current OMS-II's) is the MDF Procardial (the ones that used to be donated by alumni prior to this year.). You can't go wrong with either, but the Littmann is definitely lighter on your neck and has slightly better acoustics (that only a cardiologist might notice). I've tried both, and they Littmann has a slight edge in my opinion.

A handful of students have the luxurious electric-enhanced ones, which are overkill and waaaayyy too expensive. I'd only recommend if you are legitimately hearing-impaired.

The best stethoscope is the one you have handy.

Hi, has a GroupMe chat already been created for the accepted students in this cycle? If not, would people be interested in joining one if I create it? Let me know, or like this post if intersted. Thanks!

There will be an official GroupMe from the admissions office, link will be in a newsletter coming later this year. Newsletter goes out once monthly from late autumn till Spring/summer, has important info about white coat ceremony/orientation and on boarding paperwork etc.
From there, students tend to make their own addional GroupMes not affiliated with the school.

1. Make sure you join the Official GroupMe for your Class of 2029.

2. Do not publicly post the link to the GroupMe here. Each time that happens it gets flooded with bots and randos.

3. Be careful to monitor the official GroupMe for updates from the school or classmates, also for club opportunities and notifications about occasional (rare) free food/leftovers from events 😉

4. Exercise caution and professionalism on the official GroupMe. School employees are members in that chat to help you out, but they can and do see inappropriate or out of pocket things that students post. Every year we warn students, and every year we have admin send warnings because students post dumb/offensive/ignorant/political stuff. Everything you post can be screencaptured. People post things and develop...a reputation. So be warned. Save the memes and venting/complaining for the students-only chats.

Speaking of complaining...people vent in the GroupMe students chats and during class, which is sometimes which is fine, but the school can't improve things unless we do it in a constructive and polite way. If you want change, obtain it via the official classroom surveys or thru your Class representatives. HCOM is great but they know they can always find room to improve our experience and the curriculum, and they will do their best to honor requests when reasonable (still a med school that has to teach/evaluate) and feasible (tuition + state funding + donors ≠ unlimited money, so be realistic about budget limits/staffing/keeping our lights on).

The improvements they've been tweaking for this year are direct result of student feedback from prior Classes.

Oh, okay, thank you!

Has anyone recently got an interview invite in the past few days or weeks ? Seems quiet on here, i haven’t heard anything back yet and kinda getting nervous. Anyone know if there’s still spots on campuses?

I wouldn’t be too nervous, they have spots open till next March I believe and that’s not including the wait list movement. I believe that the first phase of interviewing is wrapping up and there is gonna be another large wave of interviews after thanksgiving break.

I am in the same boat and kind of nervous since hearing nothing from school and saw a lot of people here got II.
If you have any new updates to share since you have submitted your secondary that might be helpful in securing an interview. You can email updates to [email protected]. Bre Koch oversees the TCC admissions process ([email protected]).

Do we get completion email or portal update? All of my required boxes are checked but still says "Application Status: Application Submitted". If we do get completion update, how long did it take for you guys?

are specific campus groupmes ever made? ik there is the big one made for everyone but is there one for ath/dub/cle specific?
Yes. Each Campus will have their own specific GroupMe as well for more relevant discussion purposes. They are official GroupMes and function as such, so there are school admins present, keep it PG.

Memes and similar are best kept in the unofficial GroupMes that your classmates will likely set up once they realize they need a safe place for fun/session guide help/scuttlebutt, and complaints (justified, or otherwise).

Don't be weird in chats. Don't say out of pocket ****. Your classmates won't forget and they'll roast you for it when you deserve it. Last year, some first year got into a drunk argument with half the class about something stupid on a content exam, then left the GroupMe either out of embarrassment or because they took offense when everyone had a dissenting opinion. Went from passive to aggressive, not a good look. We still flame them for it.

There are lots of GroupMes. So many. You'll get your fill. Lots of clubs use them, and so do lots of Small Groups (student teams of 8), or alternatively SMS or WhatsApp. I honestly have to mute the unofficial ones, especially if people decide to spiral into a heated debate at the absolute dumbest times.

Since I'm here I guess I'll do a PSA on being a good classmate to the incoming class.

Don't be a jerk or sociopath. There's always people reporting classmates for the dumbest stuff. Happens every year. Be normal, or as normal as you can be...ya know...because medical students...

Lots of different maturity levels, even in med school. People react differently than you. People might have different humor than you. People learn differently than you. People have different degrees of neurodiversity and ADHD. If you ask me, the younger people need to learn to work with older people. And the old people need to work better with the young people. Talk to your classmates if you disagree or have issues. Don't bottle it up and then submit passive-agressive reports on each other for petty things. If you are doing semester evaluations on your teammates, BE KIND. Don't blindside someone with a harsh comment, try to give constructive feedback in a polite way. Don't go on an inquisition and hunt for flaws in your classmates just for the sake of it. Sometimes it is better to ignore petty stuff instead of starting a class feud. Pick your battles and get over yourselves. Don't be cliquey, be inclusive.

We're paying a lot in tuition. Keep the side conversations quiet or not at all. It gets old. You might not want to hear the professor or pay attention, but I guarantee you that many classmates still do. This seems to be more of a problem for the first years than it did for us, but thats just my 2 cents. Forgive me 1st years if that's not an accurate assessment.

This is basic human decency that 90% of students understand but for some reason people forget this after a few weeks into the semester.

Yo, what’s up, everybody! OMS-[emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]] here reppin’ the Athens Campus. Just last year, I was right where you are, trying to figure out all this application stuff. Some OMS-[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]]s came through for me with tips that kept me going, so now it’s my turn to look out. I’ll be poppin’ in from time to time—if you got any questions, hit me up. I got you!

Well SDN glitch on me but basically I’m OMS [emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]] at the Athens Campus. If y’all got any questions regarding the Athens Campus feel free to hit me up

I would say that while all this is valid, I wouldn’t fret too much over it. HCOM does a pretty good job at selecting for people who aren’t complete nut jobs, but there def will be a lot of students who will get memed lol (it’s all in jest). Just be mindful what you say at campus as you never know who is listening to you. Anything that is seriously out of pocket will land you in some hot water. Other than that it’s a pretty lax environment and most of my class loves to joke around. The class cohesion at least here in Dublin is incredibly good for the most part.

if i submit an application within the next week is that too late?

For those who got an II to the TCC program, how quickly did you hear from them after they received the application?
