Hey everyone! I am working on pre-writing for UCR based on last years prompts. Can anyone offer advice on how they interpreted the first prompt from last year:

The mission of the UCR School of Medicine is to improve the health of the people of California and, especially, to serve Inland Southern California by training a diverse workforce of physicians and by developing innovative research and healthcare delivery programs that will improve the health of the medically underserved in the region and become models to be emulated throughout the state and nation. At first I read it as a "Why us" prompt based on their mission, but I'm unsure if they also want us to explain research or healthcare delivery programs that we specfically hope to accomplish with the skills that we bring to UCR? Thanks in advance!

this is a diversity/why unique question. you can always put "why us" in the optional text box

Can a second or 3rd person confirm the wording on these before I post them up? Thank you

so i just submitted my secondary and got an automated email that said:

We have received your Secondary Application to the UCR School of Medicine and appreciate your continued interest in our program.

Once we receive your official transcripts and at least three (3) letters of recommendation, your portfolio will be marked as complete and assigned to our Admissions Committee for a comprehensive review.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Admissions Office at Email: [email protected]

With best wishes,

Are we supposed to send our official transcripts to UCR as well? I havent had any other schools require this. Has anyone been marked complete w/o sending over transcripts?

Transcripts are sent at the end of the cycle to the school you matriculate to. If it's not on your portal, it's not part of the requirement to be considered complete.

Thank you for the reply. I understand how the process works, but I am confused because the school literally sent me an email saying they needed my official transcripts for completion, which is weird.

When were you guys verified if you already received secondaries?

+1 to this question. I just submitted without sending over transcripts and am also marked as incomplete

For the first in my family to become a physician question, does that apply to parents/grandparents only or also siblings? No one in my family is in the medical field, but my older brother is a physician.

Genuine question -- if I am not from the IE, do I have any shot at this school or is it just a donation? Ive lived in central coast/socal. I dont want to waste any money, but if theres a shot, then ill submit.

+1 for this question. I'm from the central valley. i know they screen for secondaries though, so maybe if we got a secondary, it's worth a shot to apply?

that was my mindset too. im from a neighboring county and have 0 ties whatsoever

My older sibling is currently in med school, so should I put no for this question: "Are you the first in your family to become a physician?"
I honestly don't think that question matters. It's more so for demographics than to evaluate you.

Anyone else having the worst possible time putting the date in for the courses inventory section?

yes. the year part would reset to "0002" every time i would even try to type "202x". Hate this UI

For question 2, can I write about how I demonstrated one of those qualities, or is it only about a time I watched someone else demonstrate them? The "personally experienced" wording is tripping me up.

I believe its either personal experience or you saw someone else embody one of those values within a clinical setting. For example, I talked about a doctor I scribe for and him exhibiting one of the values and the impact that it had on me

It's also tripping me up. To be on the safe side, I would just explain how you've seen it demonstrated towards someone else or you. I think the "personally experienced" wording is asking how someone has exhibited those qualities towards you, but of course I could be wrong.
