This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
First Year Student here! I am in love with the school so far, amazing food, facilities and study areas. Faculty is amazing. Feel free to ask me anything ☺️
How do hub sites work? Do you get to pick where you go? Also, do students keep an apartment in Hattiesburg during OMS 3 and 4 or just commute to campus when needed?

It’s been 11 days since my secondary been marked completed. Should i reach out about status of my app?

Congrats! Also, is it true that WCUCOM has contacted your recommenders?
interviewed and was accepted last cycle ( and didn't go to my great regret lolll) but was told by one of my reccomenders that they spoke on the phone to WCUCOM about me and spoke highly of me. I guess they do call

To any current students:

Do most students opt to live on campus or get an apartment?

Yeah, I am afraid one of my recommenders will say bad things about me, as I am planning to leave the job due to culture fit. That's my fear.

OOS II.
LM 68.5, MCAT 510, ORM, GPA 3.86

Do we need CASPER and Duet done before an interview or just before matriculation?

nooo why do you regret??

nooo why do you regret??
the school i'm at now is fine and i'm getting good grades but wcucom was closer to home, had better weather, i felt safer in hburg (insane i know but it's really not that bad lol) and so many friends went there. at my current school i've already had to scrape ice off my car multiple times+ we've had ice in the early mornings + I'm scared to drive on ice, my car has been broken into, and I've only got to go home once in 5 months due to how far + remote it is. :'(

Hi guys, I submitted my secondary 10/17 and still haven't gotten a complete email or anything, just the receipt email. How long after secondary submission did it take to get the "complete" email?

when did you submit? i would give them time, i think a lot of schools are slowing down right now

@Ellesandra319 do you have any information on the clinical rotation sites here? I haven't found much info on them, thanks!

Third-year year rotations consist of 10 rotations total. Eight of those rotations are considered core rotations and they all must be done within your assigned hubsite. The other two rotations are electives and can be done outside of the hubsite if you want to look elsewhere for those opportunities. For the 4th year, our students are allowed to do rotations in whatever areas they would like within the U.S. However, any and all rotations outside of the hubsites that WCUCOM is affiliated with will be set up by the student. Our rotations counselors will assist with sending paperwork and communicating with facilities in other states when necessary, but you will be responsible for setting up those rotations around your schedule. There are several sites such as VSLO, Clinician Nexus and
some others that provide clinical rotation opportunities in other states that you can set up and we will facilitate with those sites as well if needed. The Rotations department will walk you through each step of both 3rd and 4th year well in advance of each year so that you are prepared and will have the most up to date information before you begin.

Site Locations are throughout Mississippi, Louisiana, and New York.

This info was in a Rotations Q&A doc they sent with interview info

Thanks so much for this, I really appreciate it!

Almost a month from secondary completion, ghost silence. Emails them a week ago. Nothing. Suck seeing that interviews are highly likely but haven’t heard anything.

I just got accepted to WCUCOM! I have a few questions, especially for @Ellesandra319

1. Can someone explain to me what the pre-clinical curriculum is like for your first two years? Is it systems based? What weekly lectures are you required to attend, and do you suggest attending them?
2. How is living in Hattiesburg?
3. How do clinical rotations work during 4th year? Do you have to find all of your away rotations by yourself, and is it really difficult?
4. How competitive is WCUCOM's match compared to other DO schools? They didn't post their match results on their website.

I wanna reach out and follow up but I also don’t wanna pressure them but next week will officially mark a month since the complete email and it’s been silence. Help😵‍💫 bc the way the complete email is phrased is almost like I can’t follow up bc it says “you will remain under consideration until all spots are filled” so idk what I would even ask….

Really just depends! Took 2 months till I got my II from completion.

In the first two years, does anyone know what is truly required to be at WCUCOM for? I know attendance is not required but my wife has a job 1.5 hours away and trying to figure out if I can just make the commute.

Same situation. Been over a month. I reached out directly by email and got nothing.

Does anyone know if the class has been filled yet? Seeing trends from past years, it seems like students fill up all the spots by the first few weeks of November. Anyone have any insight on this?

Hi! Congrats on your acceptance! I'm a first year here, feel free to ask me anything.

Pre-clinical curriculum is system based. We have a course called Foundations of Molecular Medicine (FMM) which is physiology, biochem, and genetics combined but it is graded separately. We have virtual components and lecture (majority are not mandatory unless it is considered a "small group" session where you will need to work with a group). Attending non-mandatory lecture is entirely up to you and what you feel works best for you. Anatomy is a huge component of first year and will take up the majority of your study time along with FMM. The majority of students will attend anatomy lecture (which are flipped sessions where you will be responsible for watching pre-recorded lectures prior to class and one of the professors will highlight high yield material during sessions and you will have clicker questions on the material).

Living in Hattiesburg is nice, I would describe it as a smaller "college" town since we are only a few minutes away from USM. It is small enough to where you won't get distracted in comparison to living in a big city, but there is still enough to do here for when you want to take a break from studying. Everyone here is nice and admin honestly do a lot to create events and volunteering opportunities for you to go out and have fun.

From what I know, your 4th year is entirely elective and you have the ability to choose where you want to do rotations. Any OMS 3/4 feel free to correct me, but many med schools have 4th year as your elective year so it's probably as difficult as any other school, but I'm sure if you are having difficulty finding sites then admin will help you out. They're great with resources.

Last year, WCUCOM had 100% match rate.

Do most students opt to live on campus or get an apartment?
We have on campus town homes that some students live in with roommates, but the majority of students live in apartments nearby. There are plenty around and you'll find a lot of COM students in those apartments as well.

Does anyone have any tips for this interview? I'm super nervous because I love this school (doing virtual BTW). Speaking of virtual, has anyone gotten the A with a virtual interview? I'm a little worried because the information sheet says in person interviewees get priority and I really want to go here, but I'm a CA applicant so it's financially a little difficult.

I assume you’ve already looked into the interview questions on SDN. If you haven’t, I highly recommend it, as the real questions are almost identical. I interviewed virtually in early September and got the A, so it’s definitely doable! While I noticed that in-person interviews might get priority, I thought scheduling an in-person date could be a hassle and might take some time. Since they chose the date for me anyway, I decided to go with it. Another tip, be yourself and smile appropriately. Drs. Harris & Scott were very nice, so relax and enjoy the process. Goodluck tomorrow!

I think these guys lost my application lmao. Submitted 5/10/24 and haven't gotten a confirmation of primary..
