2024-2025 William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCUCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I assume you’ve already looked into the interview questions on SDN. If you haven’t, I highly recommend it, as the real questions are almost identical. I interviewed virtually in early September and got the A, so it’s definitely doable! While I noticed that in-person interviews might get priority, I thought scheduling an in-person date could be a hassle and might take some time. Since they chose the date for me anyway, I decided to go with it. Another tip, be yourself and smile appropriately. Drs. Harris & Scott were very nice, so relax and enjoy the process. Goodluck tomorrow!
Thank you so much!

what was their response ?
Still under consideration. Secondary completed and under review. II are sent out till Jan. They recommended to send a letter of interest if anything changes. Guess I’m not out of the game yet coming from a low stat person (LM 53)

How do hub sites work? Do you get to pick where you go? Also, do students keep an apartment in Hattiesburg during OMS 3 and 4 or just commute to campus when needed?
See @Ellesandra319's responses regarding hubsites. Unless they're in the hattiesburg and maybe laurel sites, theres literally no point in paying 2 rents. During 3rd year we have to go to campus 2 times during the year (1 for 1.5 hours and the other for a full day) as well as 1 full week in June.

We have on campus town homes that some students live in with roommates, but the majority of students live in apartments nearby. There are plenty around and you'll find a lot of COM students in those apartments as well.
There is availability in the dorms, which is very cheap, but you will be expected to follow main campus housing rules.

anyone who interviewed 11/11 hear back yet? Not sure what their timeline is lol

Can any current students speak more on the housing options and prices affiliated with them? I’d prefer on-campus housing due to convenience but I think the townhouses are the only option for medical students specifically.

Current OMS-1. What's up?
I saw on the Student Handbook that says "community-based training model". Could you please share about what it looks like? I usually hear system-based, integrated, hybrid... So I don't really understand what "community-based" entails. Do we get to go into the local community/ meet with the locals to really understand their needs?

OOS alternate list, lowkey devestated lol

Numerous volunteering opportunities enable us to engage with community members. For example, just last weekend, some students conducted blood pressure checks and led chair aerobics at an assisted living facility. Additionally, our standardized patients, who often include retired healthcare workers from the community, volunteer to assist in our learning.

I agree with that. In my class, there are 10 to 15 first-year students living in the dorms, including myself. I enjoy staying in the dorm, but there are a couple of downsides: the weekly room checks and the fact that air fryers are not allowed. I have a single occupancy room, and I have met some second-and third-year students who also live in the dorm. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that guests of the opposite sex are only allowed in the main lobby and cannot go beyond that area.

Thanks for the info! I’m assuming since you can’t really cook in the dorms, they have some sort of meal plan for residents in the cafeteria? I’ve also heard about community restrooms?

Is there any information on what WCUCOM's match is like? I can't find any data about their matches from previous classes.

Anyone have any insight on when to expect a “complete” email? I submitted my secondary 9/13 but never received a confirmation email that my app was complete.

Hey everyone, got an "alternate list" today email after my interview on 11/20. Any insight as to how I should feel about this? Every school seems to have different definitions of alternate list v waitlist v deferred. Previous application cycle threads on SDN for WCUCOM seemed to suggest this was a positive result, but I dont know how to feel. Will be calling Dr. Smith tomorrow to clarify as well.

It is an acceptance, but the class is full already. Expect movement around the deposit deadline that's coming up.

Do you mind me asking how sure you are of this? Just anxious as you probably can already tell.

got post-interview rejection. I caught extremely bad vibe in my interview so I'm actually glad 😀. This was unexpected to me because everywhere online says they have good vibe and feel cared in their interview, and the faculty is nice... I hope this reputation is true and my experience was just an outlier. Good luck to everyone that's accepted.

just curious, what happened? you can dm me if you want

Has anyone else not heard anything after submitting a secondary? I submitted 8/18 and it’s been silence😅 really praying for an interview here
I called back in oct. They said they sent out most of the II for the year. You can try reach out Jan to send updates or ask if they are still interviewing.

Does this means they are no longer sending out II?

Carey OMS3 here. there will be a TON of movement around the seat deposit deadline, another bump in movement around the MD deposit deadline in the spring (a lot of folks will drop when they get an MD acceptance), and then there will be a TON of movement between may-july. every year they are consistently pulling people off the waitlist the week before orientation. so all that said if you get on the alternate list, you have an incredibly high chance of eventually getting an acceptance, it may just not be as quickly as you'd like.

so technically the class is "full" rn but it "empties" itself pretty quick lol

they will continue to send II's throughout the cycle as they yield protect the fact they know so many people will eventually drop whether they've paid the deposit or not.

that said, act like you'll be reapplying until you get an A, so start making a plan if you aren't accepted anywhere (MCAT retake/courses/volunteerin/clincial course work/etc.)

Spoke to the dean today, this week is the last week they are conducting interviews. Will start up again Jan. 6, i don’t think the class is full yet. Stay optimistic🙂

I was wondering if any current student can elaborate more on campus amenities and food options? Does the campus have a gym, basketball court, etc.? How do you feel about the curriculum and faculty support? I was also wondering how affordable housing is and whether on-campus housing is the move. Thanks!
