If you already attended an II, you know if theyre mentioning aid. I'm not asking them anything; I"m seeing what they say during interview day.Could you also ask about OOS students
lol Doctorendgame you always crack me up. a little aggressive bird, aren't you.If you already attended an II, you know if theyre mentioning aid. I'm not asking them anything; I"m seeing what they say during interview day.
Wasn't trying to be aggressive. lol. Just pointing out they would know if they have an II. Considering I was among the last to get an II, there's no point in them knowing if they didn't get an II either.lol Doctorendgame you always crack me up. a little aggressive bird, aren't you.
my b i thought u wer going to office hours LOLIf you already attended an II, you know if theyre mentioning aid. I'm not asking them anything; I"m seeing what they say during interview day.
oh right. That's the day after interview. LOLmy b i thought u wer going to office hours LOL
An exaggerated rumor from the Geffen Scholarship money running out. We need to write letters to David Gefffen begging him to renew his donations to UCLA.Where are you all hearing or reading that UCLA has no financial aid, because I am hearing otherwise

My impression is that you can schedule to meet with the financial aid team before you even receive an offer. Since you've interviewed I would just reach out to them to ask about this possibility.my b i thought u wer going to office hours LOL
Historically, UCLA finishes their IIs in December. Last cycle it was the second week of December, but no one has reported an II since the first week, so we are assuming they're done based on historical patterns (as is everyone else). We could be wrong but don't hold your breath.Hola! First time. Fearing I’ve lost my chance since haven’t received an II at this point. I saw someone submitted an update in early Dec then got an invite… do yall recommend this?! Truly not much to update on anyways but just curious if it highlights your interest. Thank you & best of luck to you all <3
You send updates there, not through the portal.Does anyone else see this on the welcome page of the portal:
“You are allotted 5 submissions in the Document Upload section of your application. Any updates must be provided in this section. Do not send emails to our office regarding updates. Updates are not required.”
I thought that they actively DO NOT want update letters... am I to interpret this as post-II updates are ok? Or is it a sign that I am already in the WL pile? Or were these instructions there and I just didn't notice?
I am confused. The document upload section is in the portal. You send updates there, not through the portal.
Yes, you submit it through the secondary portal.I am confused. The document upload section is in the portal.
I’m asking in general if updates are considered acceptable given that this guidance seems to conflict from what I heard/saw previously.
Don't worry too much, you'll do great!I have a big gap from the presentation to my interview. Anyone else paranoid of leaving their house for fear their car will break down and they'll miss their interview? Just me? Cool.
Can't do great if I miss my interview.Don't worry too much, you'll do great!
pop a xan my manCan't do great if I miss my interview.
I can only speak for myself, but I have been having a great time so far culture-wise! I feel like everyone here is super chill, which has helped med school be less exhausting than I anticipated going in. My peers are all super supportive, and I have been able to meet mentors and connect with the community beyond just my class, which has been great. The one negative culture thing I will say is that with the curriculum change, there hasn’t been a ton of upperclassmen support or advice that felt super relevant to our academics. If there are any DGSOM med students on here, could you share about the overall student culture at UCLA? Wondering how close students are/support/etc while in med school. Thank you!
I am going to write a letter to David Geffen, begging him to review another donation to UCLA.Hey friends, I’m a current first year at dgsom. Regarding fin aid - and I’m only talking from my experience - I was offered only loans for my first semester, but I did receive a small amount (truly nothing game changing, but every bit helps) of institutional scholarships for the spring. Not sure what that will mean for all of you when they release their aid packages. I am assuming they were need-based from talking to my friends who did/did not receive them. Best of luck with the rest of your cycle!
I honestly have never even heard of the Leaders of Tomorrow scholarship. I know a few people on full rides through LA Care, but that’s not UCLA specific.I am going to write a letter to David Geffen, begging him to review another donation to UCLA.
Did anyone get the Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship?
It's another full-ride but it's focused on students that they believe will be leaders of change.I honestly have never even heard of the Leaders of Tomorrow scholarship. I know a few people on full rides through LA Care, but that’s not UCLA specific.
Hi! When did you hear about the spring scholarship? With the initial aid package? Also, were you offered any institutional loans? Also, is this PRIME or Trad MD?Hey friends, I’m a current first year at dgsom. Thanks for this! Is it true you guys had to study over the winter break because you have exams right after? Also is it true that discovery year is now 4 months? Are classes mandatory? Do you get breaks after every block exam? Does the new curriculum include NBME exams?I can only speak for myself, but I have been having a great time so far culture-wise! Did you know people who got significant aid for the spring? Maybe based on need? Also does this mean the school got more funding?Hey friends, I’m a current first year at dgsom. No. David Geffen's donations weren't renewed. Most of the full ride scholarships were from his donations. He donated $100 million in 2012 and $46 million more in 2019. Those two donations lasted until 2022.Did you know people who got significant aid for the spring? Maybe based on need? Also does this mean the school got more funding?
The scholarships weren’t announced, they were just in my aid package for spring when I looked in mid December. All of my loans are federal. I’m trad MD. We were given an estimate for our aid over the whole 4 years prior to matriculation. Mine was entirely loans at the time, but I guess they found some scholarship money to give to students.Hi! Sorry for the barrage of questions, just curious. Thanks for being a resource!
Edit: Sorry - one more question - you said the aid was different per semester, do you know how much you get for say next fall/spring? or does that info come out later? And is it true that many classmates recieved very little/nothing? Sorry again, funding is just top of mine with the BBB lol
“had to study over break” is the reality of med school unfortunately, but everyone seemed to be making full use of their break. I didn’t feel too consumed by school to enjoy my break personally. Discovery year is shorter, but that is because they built in a new 4 week nbme prep course and a 6 week dedicated for step 1, which I think is a great thing. Some classes are mandatory, but its probably 3-5 things total per week that are required in person. We get like 3-5 days off after our block exams depending on the schedule. They are trying to make more step-style questions, but the in-house exams are definitely not quite there yet. Thanks for this! Thank you for your response! Do you know if you have scholarships for M2- M4 as well? Thanks again for being so responsive! The scholarships weren’t announced, they were just in my aid package for spring when I looked in mid December. All of my loans are federal. I’m trad MD. I have no idea about the funding situation, but no one here on the student end is really holding their breath for geffen to donate anymore money.
Sucks about the BBB for so many reasons. Hopefully UCLA will have a plan for it, but no one I know really has any clue of how it’s going to look for med school financing moving forward.
Do we think were going to get more results this week?
based on last cycle it seems they do it on most Fridays!Do we think were going to get more results this week?
