2025-2026 UT Tyler

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I can attest that although I didn't bring my parent, the majority did (plus some spouses)! So don't be scared to bring someone if you are on the fence about it.

UT Tyler does claim to pre-screen based off of "eligibility, academic metrics, and criminal history/institutional action" per their secondary email but I assume it is not an in-depth screening because I received mine 3 days after submitting my primaries.

"We invite you and one to two (1-2) guests to join us the evening before your interview (5:30-6:30 PM) for a Meet and Greet with various School of Medicine faculty, staff, and students."

Do you guys know what we should wear to this? I'm planning on wearing full suit and tie to the interview of course. And does it look bad if I don't bring a guest?
I had an early interview this cycle at UTTyler, and I took my dad with me to the meet and greet. It was a very casual, friendly environment; it was really chill. None of your interviewers is gonna be there. They initially gave a short briefing of the school of medicine and introduced staff in the admissions team. Afterwards, the entirety of the evening was meant to meet and converse with everyone present, including fellow interviewees, current medical students, and professors. Boy, did I have to come out of my introverted shell and engage in a lot of conversations. In terms of clothing, DON'T wear a suit and tie. Opt for a more business casual attire, a button-up shirt, and dress pants are fine. Save your suit and tie for the next day. It is also totally fine if you go there alone.
GOODLUCK!!

Hi! Current MS1 at UTTSOM! Happy to answer your questions, or look more into them!

I have another interview scheduled the day before my interview at UT Tyler, so I may not be able to attend the meet and greet they have the evening before. Could you guys let me know if that factors into the admissions decision?
No, it is not an admissions factor, just a chance to meet current students and other applicants.
Is your other interview also in person, or remote?
Because you could log on from your Tyler Texas hotel room ...

how long after the application complete did you get the interview invite?
I got an II 4 days after completing my application, but I was waiting on a single letter of rec so they could've reviewed my application prior.

I've interviewed twice and got II within a week both times. I was waitlisted last year and I'm currently going on two months with no II. 😭

Friends with current interviews heard back anywhere from a few days to a month.

No acceptances until October 15 at the earliest, and usually intermittently after that after major committee meetings.
In general only the AACOMAS schools give a reply quite soon after an interview.

UT Tyler said during their post interview presentation that they would start sending Pre-match offers two times during the admission cycle. One on October 24th and another January 7th (but they emphasized that dates are subject to change). Sorry to fuel the neuroticism even more with uncertain dates, but this came officially from them! 😭

Thanks for sharing that. I don't think it is fueling worry but instead managing expectations

Does anyone know if prematches are for like high stats applicants? Prematch is next week and I think many of us are super excited for the results.

for this school the bigger factor will be interest in living and working in E Texas

What dates did they mention for the release of the first pre-match batch? anyone remember?

Is it bad if we called and asked if the prematch was still expected to be on the 24th lol

I'm pretty sure it's a blind review; so it's unlikely that they could/would hold it against you.

Nope still hopefully waiting for one. Good luck yall. 🙂

Seems like they really only gave prematches to people with ties to east Texas

is there any chance to still prematch or is the later prematch for the next half of interviewed applicants?

has anyone heard anything about interview invites recently? Do you know if they’re still sending them out?

Last year I knew someone who got an II invite in December. Obviously the timeline might not be the same but it’s possible.

Last year II’s were going out in mid Dec. However, they also had interview dates planned in January. This year they only have interview dates posted through December on their website. I’m sure that’s subject to change but imagine they’ll probably only send a few more invites if January is the cut off for them to deliberate and offer final prematch offers before the match.

Remember they only have 40 seats too, it’s a small school.

Anyone able provide the email/ contact info that was given on interview day to send in a thank you letter?

I haven't seen anyone share news of an interview invitation on this message thread since September 3...
If you have been invited since then, would like to add some information, or DM me with your interview invitation date in October or November, I will update our Interview Tracking post.
Thanks

Is the majority of Tyler’s class prematch or is a good portion decided on match day?

Kind of a hard question to answer - there will certainly be some changes on Match Day because some of the people with a UT Tyler prematch might match to a different school they ranked higher.
The TMDSAS match will sort this out.
When you make your rankings, put schools in the order of your true preference to get the best possible outcome for you.

@wysdoc or anyone else that might have insight,I actually wanted to ask what you think admissions would think about a anatomy certificate? Its four classes that I am taking online through the University of Florida College of Med. It includes anatomy, embryo, histo, and imaging. I am taking them to help in my transition to medical school since Im a untraditional applicant. Would the grades in these classes matter as much like prereqs or a masters degree? The reason I am asking is because I am possibly getting a B in Anatomy.....

Getting a B in Anatomy is good...
Once you are finished just keep track of the registrar's office information so you can request a transcript when you apply, in addition to your college transcripts. These grades will probably be placed in the category of graduate courses on your application and won't be averaged in together with your undergraduate GPA, but will be an indicator of how you can perform academically now.
