Campbell University (CUSOM) DIscussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the PA program in the same building as the medical school? The DPT program starts there in January, and the nursing school is planned to open next Fall. It's going to be a busy building. 🙂

Yeah PA is in the same building as the DO. DPT's building, however, is actually on the undergrad campus. And they are planning on building a new building for the nursing program when it comes time.

As of now no.

Mon, Tue, Thurs, Fri you're in shirt & tie from 8am-noon. Mon/Thurs change into scrubs for Anatomy Lab. Tues change into basketball shorts & shirt for OMM lab. Friday classes end at noon.

Do you think they would be okay with soccer shorts? Also, do most guys tie a full Windsor knot? Personally, I prefer something more slimming.

Soccer shorts for OMM? Yeah that's fine. Some here prefer bow ties, I personally prefer the full over the half but go with whatever you like, even if that means a Bolo Tie lol

Can any accepted student help me? I need to turn in my deposit/forms by 12/20, and on the letter it says among the things to return with the deposit are the signed offer of admission AND the signed acknowledgement of technical standards. Now, my parents opened my letter but they swear there was nothing in there except the letter from the dean and two copies of the offer of admission to sign. Am I missing a sheet to sign with the technical standards? I think I will have to call on Monday to see if they can email it to me...

Anyone who accepted their offer and put down their deposit:
Did the school cash your check right away? I got an email that they received my check and completed other requirements around mid-November but the check still hasn't been cashed. $1500 is going to be a hit to the old checking acct. and I don't like it being in limbo!

They didn't cash it right away for me. It was probably cashed about 2 weeks later. I would call the school Monday and let them know if there's a problem.

Hi. There should be a link on one of the papers directing you to a website that has all of the forms. You can print it off from there. If you can't find it, I would go ahead and call Joy and ask her to email you the link.

Thank you! I had totally missed that link when I was reading it, that's so helpful.

No problem. And, congratulations on your acceptance. I've made my deposit, and I'm 99% sure this is where I'm going to end up myself.

Excited about my interview coming up on Monday! Any advice on how to handle 3 interviews back-to-back?! I feel like I am going to repeat a lot of the same information.

My interviewers asked diff. Questions. They all had different interests and generally geared their questions to a particular overall topic. Its very relaxed. The time goes so quick-you will be surprised

You're assuming they're all going to ask you the same questions. Each interview I had was different. I don't think I had to repeat myself once. Don't think too hard about it. Just go in relaxed and answer their questions to the best of your abilities. They're not going to grill you. They want to get to know you and determine if you're a good fit for each other. Good luck.

Thank you!
Just to add on to Corinne and medickdb -- when I interviewed, the only answers I felt like I was repeating were "Why Campbell?" and "Why DO?" As an OOS applicant from the suburbs of a major city, all 3 of my interviewers were curious as to why I would look at Campbell. Each interview developed very differently though, and time really did fly. Best of luck tomorrow!

Does anyone know how many apply to CUSOM? Or how many applied last year? and how many are interviewed then accepted?

Accepted! Received the phone call this morning, I fell in love with this school during my visit, so happy right now!!

Got the acceptance call this morning! 26 MCAT (8/7/11), 3.73 cGPA, 3.74 sGPA. Secondary submitted 11/2, secondary complete 11/26, interview invite 12/4!

Ninja,
Do you have strong ties to the area? I have the same MCAT (even same subscores lol), but GPAs a bit different (3.5c, 4.0sGPA)... I applied a little late, and am trying to feel out my chances here. Although I have ties to the region (family all over the southeast), none to NC specifically.
Thanks!

Haha that's cool! But I actually do not have any ties to NC, and I don't think it really matters as much. Good luck to you!

Question??? On the secondary App, is the Third question mandatory? I'm prepared to answer it just asking if I need too. The reason I ask is because this is my first time sending Applications out... Thanks for your input...

I answered every question and was accepted.

I don't remember the question. I was done months ago. What was it?

Was offered an interview and decided to withdraw my application as I have accepted another offer from a different university. I hope one of you very deserving people gets it!

In the event you submitted an application last year, what improvements have you made to it this year?
If this is your first time submitting an application, how could you answer it? Leave it blank. I believe I did.

Eeek I got a letter asking me to write an essay for the Dean's scholarship! Somehow I thought that all the scholarships were already given out. To those still applying, the scholarships are still out there! If there's anyone on this thread who submitted for the scholarship, would you be able to tell me how long it took to hear back?

It depends on when the scholarship committee is meeting. They first met about three weeks after I submitted my essay, but I think they have been meeting more frequently now. After they met, the letter notifying me of their decision was in the mail the next day and I got it 4 days later.

Out of curiosity, were you 30+ MCAT, 3.5+ S&C GPA ? On my interview day the FINAID rep didn't mention minimum criteria, but I saw this in the Academic Bulletin: "In order for a student to be considered for the Presidential Scholarship, the student must have a cumulative and science GPA of 3.50 or higher AND an MCAT score of 30 or above (rounding up GPA is permitted by the Committee). " The same criteria was listed for Dean's scholarship***Any word from you, or others who received an invite to apply for scholarship is greaty appreciated!

I did have a GPA above 3.5, but my MCAT was under 30. I was offered the Dean's Scholarship.

I have an MCAT of 29, cGPA is 3.73, sGPA is 3.51. How much more is the Presidential scholarship than Dean's?

From what I remember, I think the Presidential one is $20,000/year and Dean's is $10,000/year.

Have Feb interviews gone out yet? Also, any idea how full the class is?

I've been marked complete since late Nov or 1st week of Dec I believe...

Still on the waitlist since August.. Anyone on the waitlist heard anything? I had a very well rounded app, great interviews, and lived 23 years in NC..
