Campbell University (CUSOM) DIscussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone else coming from Fayetteville tomorrow morning?

Please keep us posted on how the interviews go this week and most importantly - GOOD LUCK EVERYONE 🙂

The Microtel is great! Right down from the school building. Call the hotel directly and ask for the Campbell rate: 62.99 for standard single.
Their number 910-893-2626

I will give more detailed info to help others out after the interview tomorrow. Time for me to relax, sleep and be ready to knock it out of the park!

And no to Waffle House. I got my cereal and almond milk, plus protein shake all ready for the AM! Thanks for asking tho!

Any other guys interviewing on the 27th who want to share cost of a room at the microtel Monday night?

Rural primary care in NC and specifically Harnett county. I wouldn't say that you want to practice in Harnett county because that wouldn't come off as genuine, but if you grew up in a rural area just stress that and how the area reminds you of home etc. Many of my classmates are from rural areas, and the school has stated before that they looked at applicants from rural area more closely because they think that they are most likely to stay and practice in Harnett county. A few of the specialties that they are in need of are EM, Gen Surg, and all primary care (especially OB/GYN). If you have an interest in one of these, make it known during the interview.

Awesome. I've spent 23 years growing up in a pretty small town and have been interested in moving to NC and living on a larger plot of land for a while now. Also I want EM. This couldn't be more perfect.

Good luck tomorrow and Tuesday to everyone interviewing!! I'm insanely excited to come down and check everything out next week!

We have our first block exam tomorrow, so I apologize in advance if you interviewees see the spectrum of zombie-like to caffeine ridden students tomorrow haha.

Are there any sort of buses or public transportation options that run from RDU airport to Lillington?

Great day! Ms. Joy was a great hostess and everyone seemed genuinely encouraging. The three short interviews were fine and laid back. We got left alone with some students for a "uncensored" chat time over lunch. The area is very rural but they are developing a full rotation sequence in raleigh for those who want to move to a larger city for years 3/4. I was impressed with the clinical rotation director. The admission commitee doesn't meet till next week so that's when we will find out. She said they have a 80% acceptance rate post interview

Only dissappointment to me was the crowded anatomy lab. OMM room was awesome and if they call me, I'm sending my deposit

Wow sounds great... Does it sound like they are doing all four interview days before they make decisions? I like that acceptance rate though... It means at this point in the process the numbers are with us!

Were they all 30 minutes? Glad to hear they were laid back, that just seems like a long time. Can't wait to interview here next week, you definitely alleviated some nervousness.

Hey playa.. I hate to rub it in buttt...:smack:

good luck on your exams dude

LOL. I'm man enough to give credit where credit is due. Surprising though, usually undergrad admission's counselors aren't that accurate with that kind of statistic. Ah well, hopefully that percentage stays the same this cycle for you guys.

Exam went well btw... at least I think it did......:scared:

When did she say 80% acceptance rate? Clearly I wasn't paying that much attention. Lol regardless I thought it was an awesome day, very impressed, the interviews where very laid back. Stomach still feels like crap from that ice cream tho. Damn you lactose!

It was while walking down a hallway at the end of the day...to paraphrase her roughly, "if you are here, it's because we already like you and it's basically yours to lose".

+1

First ii so far and at my first choice. Happy day. Good luck to all that recently interviewed.

Hey all,

Just received the ii via phone today. I have my interview on Sept 10. Very excited!!! Hope to see some of you down there! 😀

If any first years or interviewees this week give a heads up on questions and what to expect for the day that they don't tell you in the email..that'd be great!

good to hear the interviews were laid back! I'd expect that given the type of environment Campbell seems to have created with the students and faculty already.

Big day tomorrow! I'll be leaving Raleigh bright and early.

What did everyone do about hotels and getting to the campus?

What did everyone do about hotels and getting to the campus?

I'm got a hotel room at the Hampton inn in Holly Springs and I'm renting a car for the day... I'll fly back out that afternoon.

Yeah, we drew opposite ends of the table...hopefully we both get good calls next week and I can shake your hand in 2014

Im glad you enjoyed your experience! If you have any lingering questions or if anyone else on here wants some specific question answered I will do my best to do so. We aren't far into the first year but I know you have HUGE decisions to make with limited info so will be happy to help if I can

What did everyone do about hotels and getting to the campus?

I'm from northern PA. I decided to say screw it and drive the 10 hours each way, since I'm going to need a rental either way.

I'm driving 10 hours from Florida. Making a little road trip out of it with my wife. We have family in Chapel Hill so it will be nice to see them.

I am super excited about this place. Based on what everyone is saying, I think Campbell will be a good fit for me. Really hoping for an acceptance!

The Microtel is literally down the road from the school, call and get the Campbell rate. The building is on 421. It is a huge, gorgeous, brick and glass structure that you cannot miss! It is not on the Campbell main campus. They are planning a PA building, and a nursing building to be built around it creating a health sciences campus.

The interview day is very relaxed and laid back. Joy meets you in the lobby with a huge smile. You go up to a meeting room that you return to throughout the day and can leave your stuff there if you wish (which I did).

They offer water and snacks at the very beginning and go over basics of Campbell. Their clinical rotations are all set up and they even have commitments from those clinical sites for residencies! This is huge for me. The clinicals are set up as "pods" that keep you located in a certain area of NC. This way you do not have to relocate every 4-6weeks for a new rotation. Another huge plus!

The interviews themselves were relaxed. Be ready to answer what you know about osteopathic medicine, why you chose this path, why Campbell- a school in the middle of nowhere- appeals to you, what about community service and the other basics. The three interviews flew by. One we talked about his family's decision to move to Campbell and where his kids went to school. These people interviewing you are your advocates before a huge admissions committee, show them your best and make sure they have more than enough great info to convince everyone else at that table who didn't meet you.

The facilities are out of this world!!! I have toured many medical campuses and all the MD ones in FL. This one topples them all! Their SIM lab seriously gave me the chills. I have been an RN for 12 years and have worked pediatric neurosurgery, ER, OB down to hospice. Campbell has created a simulation lab that will have you prepared to step onto those ward floors as a 3rd year and be confident about the knowledge you have. They are here to give you an excellent start! One of the SIM mannequins I about died over. It actually does O2/CO2 exchange and monitoring!

The patient interaction rooms are also top notch.

Anatomy lab. Again I was giddy with joy! This one beats even FSU and USFs brand new labs! Every table is hooked up to a huge ventilation duct. There is a flat screen computer at every table. In the front of the room there is an inset room with its own table and cameras. The instructor has a cadaver and shows you the incisions. The video is played right in front of you on the computer screen so you know exactly what your suppose to do and look for. The video can also be seen in any of the lecture halls in the building. The lab is large, bright and has windows high up giving great natural lighting.

OMM lab is also bright, airy and large. There are microphones all over hanging from the ceiling so you can ask questions as you go. The instructors area is elevated. You have row instructors that assist you as you learn.

This school is ready to leap to number one right out of the gate. I am overly impressed and excited about being there! Not one person made us feel like "just interviewer's". The medstudents answered so many questions we had. I was blessed to have an amazing group of others to spend the day with.

Hope this helps in some way! Good luck to all!!!!

II today! definitely liking the phone call touch

II call at 3pm, super excited!!

My question is when the email will be sent out?

Thanks!

Wow. Facilities at Campbell are world class, and much better than what I've seen even at the MD schools in NC.

Very impressed with everything at Campbell and it's been mentioned a million times and will continue to be mentioned, but the personal touches and hospitality at Campbell make it one of the most welcoming institutions I've ever come across.

They said the first two weeks of interviews will be deliberated next Thursday and a decision should be made by the following Tuesday. A 2 week turn around time is ridiculously quick and hopefully I'll have some good news. The interviews went well and as stated were very laid back. Be prepared for the obvious questions such as Why Campbell? Why DO? Where do you see yourself in 10 years etc..

II here as well, selected the 14th because it works better with work for me. I was informed that I would receive a confirmation e-mail with all the details I needed either this afternoon or first thing tomorrow morning.

Very true. Also, I can attest to the fact that the hospitality continues when you start classes. Everyone here is so genuine, and we really are like a big family.

Just so you know I didn't get my email confirmation until the day after late afternoon so don't panic if you don't get it same day- congrats! 🙂

Ah, that sucks..

Rejected post secondary...

OOS, 3.5/3.3/28 URM.
