Campbell University (CUSOM) DIscussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm hoping to live as close as possible...we may do one car for awhile and I might need her to drop me off every morning

I was thinking about this as well to save cost on car insurance. I am an avid cyclist so I might just ride to class depending how close we live. I am sure we can contact people in the 2017 class and get more info. Playaodamonth has already given me some info on where some people with families live.

Wow, I can't believe that student's are getting acepted into the c/o 2018 already! Seems like just yesterday I applied here and was accepted.

For those of you who are accepted - I would work on getting housing right away especially if you want live in Buies Creek or Lillington area.

I am a current student here, so if anyone has any questions, feel free to message me. Can't wait to meet y'all next year!

For housing I am looking at anything within 25min. We have a large family so need a place that's 4-5 bedroom. I am looking at Holly Springs the closest. Not much available close to the school. And it's hard to secure housing when the date is far off. This is my biggest concern along with the quality of the school system. Any help would be appreciated!

I got the waitlist email as well. I wonder if they even rejected anyone? oh well. I'm hoping for a call eventually. I loved the school.

I would contact some realtors to help find a house rental. Holly Springs is a long commute every morning at 8 am. Lots of students have found housing in Fuquay Varina which is about 25 min. Also, some of the professors/local physicians have house rentals available close to the school in Buies Creek, Coats or Lillington. It is easy to find house rentals really cheap here. I have a friend who has a 2000 square foot house for $500/month.

Would fall over at $500 a month! Ok thanks for the help. Will call a realtor soon and see what I can find. Do you know the name of the one that has an office on the main campus right on 421?

well thats better than rejection, or in my case nothing. I thought they loved me at my interview, maybe they just forgot me, or I was so bad they didn't feel the need to call.

Anyone else interviewed and heard nothing?

Interviewed the 20th, no call or email yet over here

When renting from a physician or a doctor, you need to do some research. Is the area you want to live in free of crime? Is it easy to commute to and from school? If you answered yes to both of these questions, it is a great investment to live there. We at Yale medical school encourage applicants to live in dormitory for their first year of medical school.

Not going to Yale. And I have a family with 4 children, don't think others in the dorm would like that ;-) I will be doing in depth research of any home I choose to rent as I would like my family to be secure for the four years. Thanks!

I'm an avid cyclist too, we'll have to ride sometime. As far as the email goes, there was no deposit information, do we send the check with our documents?

Awesome! Maybe we can get a group together and ride throughout the week (if there's any time for it).

I can't get any of the links to open for the documents. Also didn't see deposit info. Will send them an email.

And a biking group would be great! Along with kid play dates! There is also a FB group for CUSOM spouses.

I think the realtor in Lillington is Womble real estate / property management. I would just shoot them an email or call to tell them what your looking for and keep you posted on rentals in the area.

Also, Angier is a cute little town - home of sunni skys ice cream 101 flavors!

Yes, my wife is very excited to know that there will be others with children. It's gotta be a bit stressful for our spouses moving to rural town not knowing if they will have any friends or even adult interaction for 4 years. It would be amazing to see the spouses become friends and that way we don't have to feel so guilty about studying ALL THE TIME lol.

Please let us know what they say so we don't all bombard them with emails asking the very same question! 😛 Thanks in advance. 🙂

lol  Knowing others in the same situation should definitely make this transition somewhat easier for us, our spouses, and our kids! 🙂

I probably won't hear back until Tuesday due to the holiday.

Yes! I am so excited for everything. I know it's going to be hard as hell but it will be an adventure and I can't wait to meet everyone, learn new things, and obtain our dreams together!

Hi everyone! I just sent in my application! Do you think I have a chance? 🙁

cGPA: 3.6
sGPA: 3.67
MCAT: 25 (PS 8, VR 9, BS 8) 🙁

I cheered competitively through out college and I am treasurer for the team.
I also have 200 hours coaching competitive cheerleading.
I have 200 hours at a soup kitchen and 100 hours at a hospital, as well as 100 hours in research.
I also do some random things like volunteer at an animal hospital during my spare time and I had an internship at a medical school last summer.

Good luck to everyone!!!

I think so, your gpa is stronger than mine and your mcat is balanced plus good ecs, good luck!

Can anyone tell me what the interview is like and what questions will be asked? This is my first interview and I am rather nervous concerning its operation. Is it group or solo interviews? Are there any difficult questions to answer aside from the basics? How relaxed is the interview atmosphere? Any information you could provide would be appreciated. 😛

If you look back a few pages there are some solid answers to this question and detailed info on the day. The short of it: 3 one-on-one, open file, they are prepared with questions that are very applicant specific, Why DO?, Why Campbell? Good luck!!!

There are a total of three interviews. They are 1 on 1 with administrators and/or professors. The interviewers are instructed to not try to trick/trap you with any questions. It is extremely laid back and conversational. I took it as equivalent to sitting down and having a cup of coffee with someone interested in possibly hiring you. Just be yourself and be honest. I would advise that prior to the interview, sit down and make bullet points of why DO?, why NC, why campbell? and know your application well. Don't script it though because it supposed to be more laid back and conversational so treat it that way. Also have questions for them. You wouldn't have a cup of coffee with someone and not talk and engage in the conversational as well. I treated it like this and my interviews went very well and I got accepted. And trust me...I didn't get accepted because of my stats. I truly believe it was my interviews that saved me.

Do you guys happen to know where we need to go to pay the $1500 deposit if accepted?

I sent an email asking that question and about the links not opening. Didn't she say we would get a mailed packet? Wonder if its in that. Will call tomorrow if I don't get a response.

Wow. I'm in disbelief. Just got a wait list email.

My interviews went great, and I'm extremely competitive. 3.5cgpa 3.4sgpa 30 mcat 120 volunteer hours in hospital and 400 as a medical assistant among many other things I did as an undergrad.

I guess Campbell is worried I'm going to be offered spots at MD programs and wants to wait list me? This question came up in my interview and I felt I addressed it appropriately by saying I'm going to go where I have the best feeling from interview day, and then stated I was thoroughly enjoying my day at Campbell and could definitely see myself there.

Sorry about that ron, i guess the silver lining is you have an app strong enough to be competitive for MD......no one came close to assuming I would make MD 😉

I got the email too and very early this morning which means they could have sent it out friday and we wouldn't have had to wait anxiously three more days. Our stats are very similar, although your MCAT is higher (great job). I don't know how you have a wait list before the class is full and she specifically said "you're in or you're out, no wait list". I guess I will call and try to get in touch with her today.

You can send them an email of intent. Let them know how much Campbell fit you. Or wait to send it until after you see where MD takes you.

Good luck!!!

If there is a Chris that had asked to be on the FB group and wasn't accepted, please try again. FB can be screwy!
🙂

What date did you interview?

For those accepted: we will get a packet in the mail with the documents needed and deposit information.

Thanks! By the way I believe sat across from you at the interview. Congratulations!!! 🙂

My 3.1cgpa, no clinical background and no research agrees with this statement

They just needed some old guys to help diversify the class right? lol

Haha Yes!!!!

AWESOME!!! Lol! Joy said she will be sure to ask about dietary restrictions from now on lol. I was STARVING when I finally got to the airport. Sat down at Carolina Vintage and had a perfect steak, asparagus, and sweet potato. So you got accepted too???

Any more tips for people interviewing this month? Any Affordable Care Act, ethical, or other tough questions you guys can share?

I think we have covered it all in previous posts. Just be ready to answer anything you put on your app and secondary. Take a deep breath and enjoy the day! You earned your spot to be there, now build on that confidence and show them that they were right in inviting you there.

good luck and hope you get the secondary

I still need 2 chem classes and would it look bad on me to sit with an admission counselor at Campbell to discuss my grades or just to get some feedback?

Hey everyone,

I've been trying to find info on what letters of recommendations they require and couldn't find any. Does that come with the secondary? Seems like most do schools are like that or is it just me?

Just got verified last week, so gotta figure this out before my app is released!

One needs to be from a physician (mine was MD) the other from a per-med advisor or instructor. Good luck!
