The drug check on the other hand, wtf. Certiphi does not give good instructions at all as to what to do next. They only listed labcorp groups in North Carolina. Am i really expected to travel to NC to get a drug test lol?

I did the drug test today and they told me that it should take 2-3 days. Also, make sure you call that number after you have your appointment! It's supposed to ensure your info gets to the school properly. And if you call certiphi, they'll help you locate a drug testing location near you! Good luck!
 
Got The Call today for a interview this afternoon for November 5th. Started fist pumping during work in the ED.
 
On the secondary it asks for SAT scores on my college record they take your highest sets to make a total combined score. is that what CUSOM wants us to put or to put your highest score from a single administration?

I got the same email. I took it as them wanting to see if anyone wanted to withdraw from the waitlist and let us know to send updates. My guess is they are waiting a couple weeks to see if anyone withdraws or sends updates before they re-review us.

That makes sense. The neurotic voice in my head is telling me to call Joy and ask her what it means, but im trying to avoid being an annoyance to them. Its pretty early to send updates being that the semester is not over. Do they accept additional LORs?
 
Wait...so if there is already a waitlist, does that mean that they have offered up all 162 seats? Has anyone asked about the number of seats that have been offered so far?

I didn't think that they finished offering all the available seats last year until at least after December, but I could be wrong.

Thats not how a waitlist works usually. The criteria varies from school to school but generally its like an alternate list. The school interviews you and likes you but for some reason they decided not to offer you an admission spot so they put you on the waitlist instead. Some schools have a set number of applicants that they accept from each applicant group, once that number is met anybody else is declined or waitlisted.

Was the drug test a hair sample or urinalysis? Just curious because I've heard a hair sample is EXPENSIVE haha

The Drug test was urine and nothing else. The sites are quite relaxed about it and its not as jail-like as you would think.

I originally submitted early July. Somehow my file was not fully submitted, so when I called they just had to click a few buttons. When it was all said and done, it was about late August.
 
I got an interview invitation for Tuesday, November 12th!

Any travel tips to save money getting there? I'll have to fly into Raleigh.
 
Accepted this morning. I interviewed on 10/28. It seems like a great school and the facilities are amazing!
 
It seems like a lot of people are finding out within 3-4 days on here, seems like a REALLY quick turnaround for acceptances. Hopefully I'll get an acceptance call by the end of next week 😀

Hi, I got rejected before the secondary from CUSOM I'm wondering if it is cause I applied too late or is there any other reasons. I am a Canadian and had my application verified on Oct 28. I have a cgpa of 3.85 and a MCAT of 31. Thank you

its most likely a mission fit thing. you're numbers are obviously way above average for any DO school

I have a friend who applied and got an email that her primary was put on hold for further review and they are still interested in her, is this a polite rejection or should she send updates?

Thank you for the info, I will call them on Monday to get a clearer answer and let you guys know. Feel really down getting rejected before the secondary. I really hope I get into somewhere this year, don't wanna wait for another cycle T_T!
 
I was wondering if anyone had input into family life here, I've got 7 kids, looking at Fuquay, I'm LDS. Thanks
 
I've been hearing a lot of good things about this school, although I never added it on my primary. Do you think it would be too late to add it and go through the secondary? I've already been accepted at ACOM and LECOM-B.

There is a number of the med students livingin fuquay....it was recpmmended by one of our student hosts during my interview day
 
I was considering this as well, it's a halfway point between Raleigh and the school, so I probably wouldn't move during the four years there.

Hmm it depends, what are your stats? I know a few people in my class that didn't apply until January and got accepted so it's definitely doable.

Thanks for the reply, my stats are 3.65 sgpa, 3.6 cgpa, 26 MCAT (9,9,8) from a strong liberal arts school. Neuroscience major, health studies minor. Played baseball too. Currently in an EMT Program and volunteering in the ER. ~100 hours shadowing MD/DO through school program.
 
Just canceled my interview that was scheduled for Saturday, November 9th. Hopefully this will allow someone to move up their interview day. Good luck 🙂

Yeah as long as you're a good fit for their mission (i.e. Rural medicine, primary care, open to practicing in north Carolina, etc) you should def have a shot. I say go for it if you're interested 🙂

I was complete in September and got the ii on Oct. 25 for an interview on Oct. 28. Heard back at 9 AM Thursday. They are prompt, that is for sure.
 
Sadly, I am ultimately going to give up my spot at this school. While I am impressed with the facilities, especially the entire floor of simulation labs, I am struggling with the concept of a rural and religious area. Religion was brought up several times during my interview and I sadly have several facets of my life that are contradictory toward their baptist beliefs. Thus, I am concerned about treatment from both faculty and students. In addition, the area although only 1 hour from Raleigh is still in the middle of a small community. In truth I believe that any medical professional wishing to expand their knowledge and training would learn significantly more from urban sites. Rural communities offer a different level of training but most of which would be naturally included into urban centers. I love the fact that they take care of their students, ie. the laptop/ipad I am still leaning toward my acceptance at ATSU SOMA. What does everyone think about this and was religion was hammered into your interviews? Would you chose ATSU over CU-SOM if you had the choice. I would love your feedback.

Their undergrad is decidedly baptist, I liked it because i'm a christian and felt less likely to have my beliefs treated like a mark against me. I felt it was pretty secular tour day though

There are students here from all different religions. Jews, Christian, Hindu, I'm an atheist and there are a good amount of them/agnostics as well. Religion plays no part in the curriculum luckily, except they normally begin ceremonies and special events with a prayer which is perfectly fine since they are a Christian school and all. Being in an urban setting doesn't matter during your first 2 years, which is pretty much all book work, so I'm not sure why that would matter? Your 3rd and 4th years are the clinical rotations and you can choose to rotate through an urban located hospital system if you so wish to do so. Unless you need a highly populated place to be in for 2 years to make you happy on a personal level, educationally it won't make a difference.
 
I am humanist, and during my interview we talked about my background and since it did not have religious aspects in it there is no question about it. At special events prayers are given but no more than any other events like a presidential debate, football game and definitely not every day.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I felt like I just got a bad vibe from a set of particular comments in my interview. I was so overly impressed by the facility and I still am having a problem deciding what to do. Thank you to the current CUSOM students for their input. What do 3rd and 4th year rotations look like? During the interview they said they had 200 sites but did not list any of these locations. I would love an urban location in NC as the state is beautiful. Although no one is in the 3rd year as the first class just started, can you still give me some insight on this as this would be very helpful. What are your thoughts on ATSU, do you have any opinions concerning this college.

  • WakeMed Raleigh Campus (Wake County) - Raleigh
  • New Hanover Regional Medical Center (New Hanover County) - Wilmington
  • Southeastern Regional Medical Center (Robeson County) - Lumberton
  • Forsyth Hospital (Novant Health) (Forsyth County) - Winston-Salem
  • Presbyterian Hospital (Novant Health) (Mecklenberg County) - Charlotte
  • Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital (Harnett Health) (Harnett County) - Dunn
  • Cape Fear Valley Regional Medical Center (Cumberland County) - Fayetville
  • Alamance Regional Medical Center (Alamance County) - Burlington
  • Central Carolina Hospital (Lee County) - Sanford
  • Johnston Medical Center (Johnston County) - Smithfield
  • Harnett County Hospital – (Harnett County) - Lillington
The bolded sites I would consider more urban as the population is >100,000. The rest fall somewhere between 10-50,000.

I'm optimistic these written commitments will turn into official rotation spots by our 3rd & 4th years.

I wish I knew more about ATSU to help out, but I heard good things though. Maybe someone else on here interviewed there and could shed some more light. Good luck with your decision, wish you the best.

I interviewed Oct. 28 and it sounded as though all those listed on the website were pretty much confirmed.

I did not apply/interview at ATSU but firmly believe that you need to go where you felt most at home and where you think you will thrive. Trust your gut.

In my interview, I felt the religious discussion focused more on the way the baptist values dictated that the faculty support and be charitable toward the students and the SOM, in general, lived their mission statement. I didn't get the impression that they made it a part of the curriculum or daily atmosphere. (Disclaimer: I am very much Catholic, so maybe it didn't stick out to me as much.).

I'm kinda in the same boat. While I didn't get a super religious vibe from the interview itself, the town seems too rural and religious to be able to live in and practice medicine. I was only there for one night and I feel like I already saw everything! It's sad cause the school itself seems like it has great potential, I only wish it was in a more urban city.

This. If you need to be in an urban location to keep you sane through your first 2 years, then go to a school in a populated location simple as that. If you, like me, need to be away from distractions and in an optimal study environment (i.e. quiet, no traffic, nice scenery, open spaces), then a rural location with a city 25 minutes down the road is perfect. Your real clinical skills develop when you see real patients, and that is in your 3rd/4th years. Sooo if you go to an urban school but then rotate in rural hospitals, then it would be the same as going to a rural school and rotating in rural hospitals haha.

Go to a school where the environment, community, curriculum, faculty, and mission all meet your needs.

Does anyone know when Campbell contacts students with an invitation to submit essays for scholarships? Has anyone who has been accepted received an invitation yet?
