Campbell University (CUSOM) DIscussion Thread 2013 - 2014

Hate to bring the dress code topic up but can scrubs be worn to class at least?

As of now no.

Mon, Tue, Thurs, Fri you're in shirt & tie from 8am-noon. Mon/Thurs change into scrubs for Anatomy Lab. Tues change into basketball shorts & shirt for OMM lab. Friday classes end at noon.

Wednesday you're typically dressed from 8am-3:30pm/5pm depending on which group you're in for Clinical Skills Lab. But some of those lab days you can change into basketball shorts and shirt depending on the topic (i.e. physical exam).

No dress code after you finish with the day's classes and on the weekends.

It really isn't bad at all. You get used it to after the first week or two and forget about it.

Accepted today around 5pm CST! I interviewed yesterday...that is quite literally the quickest turnaround possible haha.

Also, Joy Henderson is the perfect person to deliver news like that, she really lives up to her name!

How was the overall interview?

I really enjoyed it. Like other people on here have said, the facilities really are amazing. The sim lab and anatomy labs were spacious and bright, and the technology they have was really great. The whole admissions committee is so warm and welcoming, and they really make you feel excited about the possibilities available to the school and I felt very comfortable. One of my main concerns was the idea of attending a Christian school when I don't identify as a Christian and am very much so non-religious. I mentioned this in a couple of my interviews and everyone assured me that no views will be imposed on me, they have students and faculty of many different denominations, and the whole interview day was very secular. But they do have a chapel and encourage you to express yourself spiritually if you choose to do so. Overall, great day!

Sounds like a great school and interview and thank you for sharing, congrats on the acceptance it must be a great feeling!

Accepted as well on the same interview day. Facilities are as advertised. Asked the same question about faith and if it would be pushed here. The answer I received is that it will make it's appearance during student led ethics based discussions and that it is not part of the curriculum. But the overall theme of love thy neighbor is stressed.

damn. i hope we'd be able to wear scrubs at the very least and i hope that changes

anyways, this isn't a deal breaker for me since I've already put my deposit down

is there anyway to check the application status? No one answer their phone line 🙁

Are we supposed to get a confirmation after submitting a secondary?

🙁flat out rejected pre-secondary.... first rejection..

Is there a quick turnaround time for this school complete -->ii?

Thanks for the info. I just got my complete email today.
Was it a complete email or an email stating that they have received your secondary? I submitted my secondary a while ago, and have only received an email stating they got my secondary.

They screen before secondaries? I just released my primary to them and got an invitation for a secondary two days later. How heavily do they screen if they do?

So what do they mean by Christian environment?
How gay friendly is campbell?
They seem to not have a non-discriminatory policy towards LGBT evidently either.

Oh yeah...I got the "We received your secondary and payment" email on 11/05 and then got the "your file is complete" email today.

They do screen before secondaries. Originally when I applied I had a generated email thanking me for the app then my secondary request a week later. Waited about a month until I got the interview call. I prefer some screening prior to because It feels as though they are genuinely interested.

Christian morals and the value of love thy neighbor are heavily influenced. Religion only finds it's place in student led ethics based discussion as I was told during my interview. As far as gay friendly, I'm sure the school is accommodating. But the area is in rural NC in the Bible Belt, just north of FT Bragg. The good thing is that Raleigh is about 30-40 minutes away.

Will be withdrawing my acceptance here...for those of you on the waitlist or still waiting for an interview - have no fear, things move all the time! Good luck to everyone, it certainly was not an easy decision!

Thank you for the response. I am finishing up the secondary now but will have to wait until after Thanksgiving so my college can forward my LORs to go with my secondary. Oh well, guess I'll try to send it in on Monday.

Where are you guys thinking about living? I'm looking online at rentals in fuquay verina and Dunn and lillington, not sure yet, want a house with a pool though, that I know.

I haven't started looking yet. I'll need to find a place that's pet friendly though as I'll be bringing a dog.

My interview is on Tuesday so I was wondering if anyone has any helpful tips or suggestions? I would really appreciate it 🙂

Be yourself! I felt that the interview was pretty laid back! Some of the interviewers may ask you ridiculous questions or keep prodding for more information-just keep your cool and smile! Since its a new school, I asked all my interviewers what made them decide to be a part of Campbell

Thank you for your advice! What kind of random questions did they ask?

I heard from some of my peers that day that one interviewer stumped them with science and math questions. It didn't really matter what you answered, he just wanted to see a reaction I think. Composure is key!

My interviewer asked me a question about immunology(function of the thymus) because he saw I took that class, got it right(minus a slight mixup) and that made him happy so that was nice.

I thought I remember them saying they do something in June or July but I'm not sure if that was just orientation.

I think that's orientation. I know there was a few posts about it on last years thread, sounded like it was in spring sometime. Either way I'm looking forward to coming here, as the semester winds down and exams get closer it's nice to know it's all paid off and there's a light at the end of the tunnel. For everyone yet to interview, good luck, I hope to see you guys next year!

Coming from the viewpoint of a current student:

There is a very welcoming env't here. The school is definitely Christian, that being said, there has been no discrimination towards other religions or sexual orientations. I love it here.

Also, part of the reason they may not have a policy yet is because there a many things that are being developed as we go along. There are a lot of things in the works that the school has a schedule for when they will be started or initiated.

How is the school with accepting students still taking a few remaining classes?
