Class of 2021 . . . how ya doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
oh ****. Not sure about @Emily Faith , but if I had a test over everything I learned last year (especially phys), I would 100% fail it.

Is it for a grade??
It's pass/fail but passing it is required to continue in the DVM program (you can retake it once over Thanksgiving if you don't pass the first time). You need a 70% to pass the in class portion and 80% to pass the open book cases they give over the summer. It's not terrible overall and I get that they're trying to get us to integrate material we've learned throughout the program, but it's kind of a bummer to study for lol

I'm coming back for a big fat test next Monday and then I can pretend to be excited about starting second year lol

I have a friend in 2020 there and she's been ardently trying to study. Meanwhile, I've also been getting snaps of her dogs instead. Lol

Just about every post in my Facebook feed right now is "I did X thing instead of studying for capstone" lol

I would 200% fail. 😛 The new doctor at the clinic I work at just graduated from okstate and is an awesome doctor and also felt like she retained nothing after first year. There is hope!

I just got a lovely message from my school portal indicating that I am a Bad Admit and not enrolled in an eligible program for financial aid. I thought there were no take backs once you were admitted! #It's not impostor syndrome if they pull the rug out from under you!

I wonder what hoops I am going to have to jump through to get this sorted. 😡

Oh God that sounds awful. I looked at my financial aid yesterday and kept wondering why they hadn't disbursed it yet. Then I added up all the numbers and realized it was a bill not a disbursement. :smack: Thank god for IS tuition after one year, I don't know if I could've done a more expensive program.

Are they trying to kick you out?? It’s been a year!

I am sure it is just some sort of computer glitch or something. I passed all my first year classes* and I am automatically enrolled for the fall.

*Yes, I did go back and double check my spring nuero-anatomy grade. Still a C.
Hahaha yeah, hopefully they get it figured out soon!

Someone I was friends with from undergrad sent me a FB message about vet school because she was applying, which was fine and all.

And then she asked: “Lol does it at least feel nice not to have to make As all the time?”

*eye twitch*

Hahaha does this friend know you at all? 😉

We had our first day of actual classes after our test today but I feel like I am unable to learn until my brain resets itself and purges all of the information I learned for capstone lol

Me all day

Why did I think it was a good idea to work Friday's at the ER?
That feel. I wonder why I signed up to do so much damn stuff.

Also got results back from my first exam in time for my second exam... I hate second year.

Although strangely I seem to be receiving many more care packages than normal and I get all warm and happy every time I think of them 😍

Yeah ... I heard about that ... Davis has a crazy-wild clowder of feline secret agents.

Just for icing on the cake, all of the clients were needy and it took forever to clear rooms and then I got bit by a lovely cat. By the time I finished my charts and the ER visit for my finger it was 5 am. I am already behind on studying. I don't need this stress.

On the original schedule, I was supposed to do client communications seminar on Thursday, but now I’ve been moved to the middle of October, which is much better.

I have to disclose a (nonfatal) medical error and I’m semi nervous about it!

remember a couple things:
1) it was non-fatal
2) mistakes are how we learn - you will likely NEVER do that again as a result of this mistake.

you'll be fine

We do this too second year and they hire an actor and video tape us. I got to do it over the summer as part of my summer program and it was actually a lot of fun and surprisingly helpful. You got this!

We did one last year with just a history, but this year it’s a history and the medical errors. They do community actors as well, and what not, but hopefully it goes well!

I got a certain doctor’s wife and I was distracted by thinking what a cute couple they were and stuff. /random
oh interesting! I never heard of doctor’s wives/ SO’s doing it. Just random citizens from the neighborhood.

Although, not I’m wondering which doctor you’re referring to! 😕

I don’t know if he’s around any more, which sucks for you if he is 100% retired, but Lorenz. He is a cheerful, exuberant soul and his wife is very sweet and they had polite schnauzers.

Awww yes! We had him a couple times last year in phys for neuro stuff! He’s super sweet!

Speaking of 100% retired, according to my friend Thedford is no longer teaching the llama/ alpaca portion of zootech! It’s really sad! I loved him!

Edit: I just found out he passed away in April! How tragic!!!

I was called in this morning for equine emergency team, and going through the case has made me finally okay with classes starting! I've been low key dreading class starting tomorrow. But the intern went through a ton of information that we'll actually be going over this year and it's instilled a lot more motivation for year two.

Sitting in lecture today was a mistake. I almost didn't go but I decided I should because first day and all. The only thing I actually remember (because I was distracted the whole time) was one of the lecturers telling us why sitting in class would probably help us focus/learn better. Yeah... not me. Fortunately, he was also telling us that we were free to not come to that class if we chose. Will be exercising that option.

I think there's only one lecture I actually have to show up for this semester, but there might be a couple I have to live stream (as opposed to speeding up the recordings later)?

Ah well, not a terrible first day of second year.

This does not help my motivation lol

I start 2nd year in less than 8 hours.

I'm already contemplating ditching the rest of this week to go swimming at our lake house.

Halp
Week 2 and I have a quiz tomorrow and I’m eating animal crackers and have a bottle of wine with me. It does not get better

Also apparently we have 3 quizzes this week: clin parasit, virology, and pharm so that makes me very sad. My schedule is much nicer than first year because I’m not in labs all the time, but omg my motivation and desire to do anything has plummeted. :arghh:

(The bright side is that I have set times 4 days a week to exercise so hopefully I won’t gain weight this semester.)

Second week of September we have full exams in four of the five classes we are taking.
