I remember them saying Everything is video recorded not sure about compulsory attendance

Have they brought up code of conduct during the interview? I haven't found anything that would suggest med students would be exempt from the rules undergrads must follow, which are extremely strict, like no r rated movies strict.

I spoke with Mr. Cook about that during my interview. We will not be held to the Liberty Way code of conduct.
They do expect professionalism. Campus is smoke free, but I don't know about drinking. Since I never consumed alcoholic beverages I didn't even think to ask.

Sorry to go off topic, although all these concerns are valid.

But does it seem like going off a trimester schedule means that we will hardly have any prolonged time to go home and see our family? all i'm seeing is a few days off here and there.

I think there is 2 weeks off for winter break and then a break before 2nd year - not sure how many days though.

Yes, you get a laptop/tablet. But it is not given to you, it is included in the first year tuition.
Ohh yeah I see that. 1,200 for the laptop... Well shoot, i'd rather save the cash and use my laptop! I wonder if we'd be given that option.

They said it would be cheaper in the end to pay the $1,200 or so than having your laptop re-configured and loaded with all the bells and whistles.

Does anyone remember if they went over a tentative schedule of how the days were set up? Like an hourly play-by-play? I remember them saying something on the interview day but me being anxious overwhelmed my capacity to focus.

Has anyone recently accepted been contacted since the phone call? I remember being told over the phone to expect a lot of information in the next few days but haven't received anything.

Edit: Disregard it was sent to the liberty email address

Wondering the same. Anyone know?

I interviewed on November 18th and haven't heard a thing? Should I call?

I have not heard anything. I imagine it is probably coming via snail mail.

I recently received an interview invite and I'm trying to figure out if I should attend. When I initially applied to LU I didn't realize just how conservative the institution is but after reading this forum I am nervous. I am Christian but very liberal. I am from Massachusetts and would like to return to the state for a residency, but I'm worried that if I go to such a conservative school I will be limited to residencies in the south that share these conservative beliefs. I just feel like LU gets a really bad image from a biological/research standpoint because they teach young earth creationism.

I know that we will learn all aspects of medicine including embryology, but I feel like other people will think we learned medicine from a young earth creationism standpoint . I'm just worried that residency programs will think that the education we receive isn't as well rounded because of the religious aspect , especially programs that have strong research aspects. Does anyone else have this concern? Or does anyone else feel like residencies will be limited to more conservative Christian affiliated programs? I just want to return to the Northeast someday and don't want to close doors for myself.

Hey there,

I really don't think that creationism is going to impede us in anyway. Residency programs won't look at us and say "they went to a christian affiliated program, everything they've learned is false!"
Schools are accredited and managed, this includes what is being taught at the school. Your COMLEX scores will speak better than anything.

Hi you all,
Headed to Lynchburg, VA tomorrow for the interview on the 19th. Very excited to see the school and meet all the people. I know it would be fun. Good luck to all who have interviewed and who are interviewing on the 19th.

Hey Seaside11. Yes, it is intimidating to think that the school teaches their undergrads young earth creationism, but they have to teach evolution as well in order to be accredited. It's up to the student to decide what they think is correct. I do not think that the COM will force that issue too much, b/c in medicine that issue doesn't matter. The beauty of medicine is that you can believe whatever you want to believe and still be a great doctor. Right now, I am almost positive that there will be a diverse number of students at the COM. You will definitely get diversity in clinical rotations, residency, fellowship, and professional practice from your attendings, patients, nursing and clinical staff, housekeeping, administration, etc. The thing to understand is, no matter how diverse we all are, that we are there for a common goal... to be a medical professional, to promote health, to give the best care possible, and to work as a team for a common good. Yes, LUCOM is a new school, that is the biggest challenge as it hasn't proven itself yet. The fact that it is religious shouldn't. There are a number of religious medical schools who send their students to great residencies. Just have to do well in school and on the boards to prove that. Something to consider is taking both COMLEX and USMLE. I know COMLEX is required and some allo residencies will accept COMLEX if they are fairly high scores, but to standardize and compare apples to apples... the USMLE is the best way. Step 1 will be the hardest of the 3 steps... but a good way to prove your knowledge to allopathic residencies. I know that in 2015 the residencies will be combined, that's good... I just don't know about COMLEX and USMLE outcomes. I would advice going to the interview and meeting before judging. I know a lot of people on here and everywhere else around judge very critically of LU... but the truth is that they want to be a great center of undergrad and grad studies. Don't waste an opportunity and prejudge something based on misinformation or preconceived notions. My bet is that you will be surprised.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the talks fell through on the unified accreditation system?

No, you are correct, it has not been officially established. Yet, I believe this is the way things are going. The projected year was 2015, but last I heard it was not official.

I just arrived at the Hilton Garden Inn. I rented a car and drove from the Charlottesville airport.

If anyone wants to grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants close by, I'd be happy to drive. Send me a PM.

rejected pre-secondary. Good luck to all those still in the application process to LUCOM 😉

It's not going to happen in 2015. AOA has been more or less unwilling to compromise which has led to the ACGME excluding AOA residency grads from ACGME fellowships. The AOA's stubbornness is commonly cited to be due to them not wanting their graduates to lose osteopathic principles and OMM in residency training - but I think it's more likely that a lot of AOA programs wouldn't be able to meet ACGME volume requirements.

I applied to several DO schools but just heard about this school. Is it too late to apply with these stats?

3.65 cGPA
3.50 sGPA
MCAT (highest was 9BS/6PS/11V)

Hey, I think you should apply. It's a new school, so perhaps it's not a first option for many people. I have an interview for this school in January with a 26 MCAT. I heard they take the highest score in each section. Also, when you get secondary, send it in as soon as possible. I think they will email you within a week if you get an interview or not. That's what happened to me and someone else I know. This is all just my opinion. Good luck!

Had my interview on December 19th. It was one the better days of my life. I am so impressed and thrilled with LUCOM that I am speechless. Every one was so nice and helpful. Loved the campus and the new building, even though not complete yet, looks unbelievable. I am really hopeful and keeping my fingers crossed.

Anyone get a call for an interview this week? I was complete last week. I emailed them this Week and they said they should be making a decision on my file this week.

If you haven't heard by now, I think it might not be until after the xmas now.

Hello all,
I interviewed on Dec 17th, and I must say, the campus totally blew my mind away. I went in expecting greatness, and I witnessed more than just greatness, but eminence. I can envision this school to be one of the best. The curriculum, the institution, the location, the town, the locals (whom were some of the nicest people ever!) everything about it is just great. The faculty there is amazing, and Dean Martin is one of the most genuine human beings I've ever encountered, he really wants his students to succeed. I felt so comfortable and at home when I was in Lynchburg, and trust me I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and lived in Milwaukee, WI, but I absolutely loved all three of my days when I was in Lynchburg, VA.

Wow, I got an II for jan and can't wait to visit!

I felt the same exact way about the area and the school. I am from a large/lively city and this place seemed to be a polar opposite, but surprisingly it was not a bad feeling. It seems like a great place to study and live. I cannot wait until August.

Congrats all! Hope to join you all in august! Interview coming up in jan 🙂

Here's my timeline and stats:

AACOMAS Complete 11/09/13
Secondary offered and submitted 11/11/13
II 11/21/13
Interview 12/19/13
Accepted 12/23/13

cGPA 3.21
sGPA 3.26
MCAT 26
PS 7 BS 9 V 10

Significant work experience as a paramedic and flight paramedic with international aid work, including a year overseas in Saudi Arabia setting up and aeromedical helicopter program for that country.

I echo pretty much all the positive things said about this institution. The whole institution appears committed to a non judgemental, service oriented, loving approach to the delivery of medicine. They are well funded, the faculty is highly qualified and WANTS to be there (even going so far as to leave great stable positions to come to a new school) and to say that the dean is highly involved is an understatement.

Dean Martin literally spent hours with us answering our questions fully and specifically. This is a man who is in the middle of opening a new medical school. He does not have a lot of time to spare, but he thought it important enough to commit time to us to make sure his school is getting the kind of students he feels will further their stated mission.

From top to bottom, I loved every minute of it.

Congrats to all the new people accepted =)

Just got the call....

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!

I'm really excited to be part of the inaugural class!

Very happy for you. I cant wait to get that call too. I guess its too late now. May be if in my luck it will be after Christmas.
