Howdy all, I just my interview rescheduled from early January to Mid December. I am excited about the school and cant wait to get there.
I have been accepted to a school closer to home. My interview was scheduled for Dec.17. You may have taken my date! Otherwise it's available for those wanting to move up their date just give Barry a call.

What are the chances of being accepted after an interview at this school?

Nope it wasn't December 17th but its close to that. So that seat might still be open. Congrats on being accepted.

Me too! I'm so excited & nervous at the same time. Maybe, we meet on the interview day in December, Indianarn 🙂 & congrats cornellcrew! I love the positivity and support in this LUCOM thread. It makes this painful waiting game a little bit better.

I understand what you mean. My interview is on December 19th, I guess you took the December 17th stop?

Great! Yes, hope we both get in 🙂 I'm from New York. I'm actually trying to enjoy Thanksgiving week for now, then will go to LUCOM website, practice speaking (I sometimes either ramble or choke when I'm nervous, so I try not to do those lol) From everyone's experience here, I guess I'm just gonna be myself and show them how determined I am and how good of a physician I will be. Good luck & see you on the 19th!

hahaha, who doesn't choke. I do too. I will be the oldest guy there. Hopefully we can introduce each other. I also have another interview coming up on Monday. But really looking forward to LUCOM interview. I can only imagine how much would it mean to be the first class of a new med school. So excited, can wait for it.

I am originally form Maryland, now live in Indiana. Would be fun to move back to my neck of the woods. Any how, hope to see you there.

sounds good 🙂 yay, east coast! Also, I'll probably be the oldest girl there as well. Good luck on both of your interviews! You'll do great! ^^

Thanks. I am excited and nervous at the same time. Just cant wait for it though. It will be a hard decision between both schools (Hopefully I get accepted by both).

Just moved my interview to December 19th (originally January 20th.)

Seems like there are a lot of non-trads interviewing thus far...kind of a nice thing to have a good mix of people.

Very happy for you, December 19th interview here too. Where are you from?

Received the secondary application this morning. Does LUCOM screen pre-secondary or does everyone get one?

They do screening but their cutoff is pretty low

Edit: ie whatever a lot of places post as the minimum. I've only encountered one school (KCUMB) that had high-ish secondary screening standards (3.25 sGPA I believe)

I actually called and confirmed it. Its 14,500 per trimester and there are 3 in a year. So it would be about 45k + cost of living.

During my interview the dean said that he might grandfather the inaugural class tuition rate so our tuition wouldn't increase throughout the years! I hope he actually does do that! That would be awesome!

That would be nice man, except that the first class hasn't even started and they've decided to increase the tuition by 5k/year!

Thats good new, hope it happens. We will keep our fingers crossed.

Hey everyone... I emailed financial aid to get more info on the tuition and the change to $45k. This was the explanation I got:

"Since LUCOM only has 11 terms (three in years 1-3 and two in year 4), the term rate is $14,545 ($160k/11) for an averaged annual amount of $40k over 4 years ($160k/4)."

So, they didn't actually up the tuition from 40 to 45. They just list the amount differently. It stills works out to be $160k for four years.

I hope that's helpful.

Thats the best explanation I have heard so far. Thanks for the details. I have my interview in the middle of next month. Cant' wait. Happy thanks giving you all.

Hey Everyone,
(I am new to SDN)
I was accepted to LUCOM about 1.5 months ago, it is an absolutely amazing place and school. After interviewing with other schools and evaluating, I am positive I want to attend LUCOM. I was thinking that we should make a FB page with accepted students that will be attending next year?! I dont know if anyone would be interested in this...
Please, let me know if anyone has any questions about LUCOM and the interview process, I would be happy to help. Good luck to everyone during this journey!

There already is one, I believe it's called LUCOM Class of 2018.

Congrats on the acceptance!!! What factors made you pick this school over others?

Thank you very much! It was funny because this was not my first choice school (pre-interview), however, I loved the people and faculty that I met and interacted with. I found everyone to be very warm, welcoming and impressive. I had a feeling that they wanted me as a part of their first class, that I would provide something valuable to them. At other schools I felt like more of a number than a valuable member. I think that the facility is going to be absolutely amazing once completed; studying in a setting like this is overwhelmingly exciting and motivating. I also found it exciting and honorable to be apart of the inaugural class, that is something unique and different. At the end of the day, it was a gut feeling (which is something that I am not use to, being a very logical person), however I sensed a feeling of home here.

Thanks so much for the response!! I'm interviewing here in January and excited to learn more about the school!!

This is almost exactly how I felt about liberty too.

Absolutely! It was a very relaxed interview, although I did get some health care questions thrown at me- ex: if I were to change Obamacare, what would I do ? I also had an ultimatum question thrown at me - if you had a doctor rank the three qualities of importance and support, intelligence, integrity and honesty?- something of that nature. One thing that I think really helped me was that I stuck to my answer when I gave it, the interviewer often looks to question your response to see how you handle the pressure, but the key is to support your initial answer with good evidence and confidence. There is no "incorrect" answer essentially, you just have to actually believe what you're telling them. Be yourself, and be relaxed! I know I was super nervous, but warmed up as soon as I spoke with the other people being interviewed that day. I am a northerner, and was blown away by the southern hospitality, it was refreshing. Good luck! I hope this helps.

Really appreciate that. I will keep that in mind. Cant wait to get there and see and meet them all.

I think you summarized the interview experience and school well. I'll likely be attending here as well over other schools. There's something specials about this schools that is difficult describe.

I agree with this as well, also accepted about 1.5 months ago and have gone on other interviews. This was also was not my first choice going in but, really no other place I have interviewed at has made me feel as welcome or excited to be a part of their team. I also felt like just a number and at other interviews, some with 40-ish people at once, it felt wrong in my gut and always said to myself, nope still like Liberty the best. Dean Martin encouraged us to check out other schools at our interview so we knew we were going to the school we belonged at. I believe this was quite the pearl of wisdom, it really made me appreciate the friendly staff, the welcoming hospitality and the excitement of their new program at LUCOM and I am happy to be part of it. I have put my deposit down and will only go to one additional interview next week that I already paid for travel and lodging wise and possibly go to the one in my home state since there is no expense on my part and I received WICHE funding. Barring some divine intervention at one of these two schools I see no reason why I will not see you all in July =). I have answered numerous questions about lodging, interview format, directions to the interview site at the mall in personal messages so if you have any feel free to ask. Best wishes to all those applying and interviewing, you will thoroughly enjoy the experience =).

Also if you have time I recommend checking out Lynchburg and the Liberty campus the student body and locals were wonderful.

My experience at LUCOM was excellent. From the beautiful scenery to the genuinely welcoming locals and LUCOM faculty/staff. I am hoping to see an acceptance - this place has all the tools for a student of medicine to succeed with the most important being approachable and great faculty. They have done a fine job and the program will succeed. Real excited!

wow, thank you so much guys for sharing the interviewing experiences! This is really inspiring. Really appreciate this. A quick question for you who are already accepted, are you all Christian? I am having the interview in December, and just want to see how the school puts the emphasis on beliefs and such. Thanks again, guys. Congratulations to you all who are accepted and good luck to everyone who has interview coming up and to those who are still waiting as well!

They emphasize Christian qualities, not that you're necessarily part of an organized religion. I believe that the qualities of compassion, understanding, care for your fellow man and so on are vital traits for a physician to possess - Christian or not. For what it's worth I was raised Roman Catholic (and I think that's what I put on the secondary) but I don't practice it and I'm more agnostic/spiritual.

They never asked me nor did I witness the staff ask about another individual's religion and there were no questions in my interview about religion.

Yes, I can second this post. I agree with everything you just said... I do not practice a religion now, I identify with more agnostic/spiritual as well. I also didn't specify a religion in my secondary, it doesn't look like it is a factor in the decision process.

Thanks for the info, guys!

I agree. I don't think religion has any weight on the decision. I mean its a Catholic School and I am a Muslim. I did specify that in my secondary and am invited for an interview. I have heard good things about the school. Cant weight for the interview day.

Yeah same here, which makes me believe they don't put too much emphasis on the religion, but more on their mission. If you fit with their mission, then they will want you.

Did you submit the deposit online or send in a check in mail? Thanks!

Just a clarification...LU is not a Catholic school. They originally identified as a Baptist affiliated institution, and now are primarily identifying themselves as an Evangelical Christian university.

I am definitely not trying to come off nit-picky or anything, and it is not a huge mistake in the scheme of things, but you definitely don't want to make that slip during an interview, or when talking with others about the school. It might make you come off as poorly informed or unaware.

As a side note, I worked in Saudi Arabia for a little over a year with the Red Crescent setting up an aeromedical flight program. I absolutely loved my time there, and still have many Muslim friends. I loved learning about Islam and even though I am not a Muslim, the opportunity to serve on the medical helicopter that flew missions into Mecca during Hajj in order to aid pilgrims in medical need was spiritually moving to say the least.

Hopefully we can meet during the interview on the 19th, and insha'Allah be classmates in the near future!

No labtop for 2 weeks and this thread just keeps on growing, it's amazing! I enjoy how labtop repair companies tell you it will take 2 weeks until they can ship it back, then today I get an e-mail saying they need 2 - 3 more weeks. Oh the sweet irony of awaiting things in life lol.

Today, I was able to get my HP from 2001 to work, luckily it has not yet crashed. My interview from 2 weeks ago, though at times was embarrassing since Mr. Cook already knew who I was prior to the day beginning, was still nothing short of spectacular. Turns out he does look at this site from time to time LOL. Hopefully I will hear back with an acceptance, and if so I will be sure to let my future classmates know how he figured the mystery of: "who is dietcoke."

Two simple reasons why I found it spectacular...
1) I felt at home. For me this is huge. Think about it for a second, many of us will be spending the next 4 years at a medical school and living on a campus near the school. The way I see it, I wanna be at a place where I feel comfortable, and that is one of the many things that Liberty excelled at. They made sure we were always relaxed and the entire staff was easily approachable if we had questions or concerns.

2) Secondly, the teaching staff they have put together truly is amazing. They are just as excited to be working their as we are looking forward to attending LUCOM. They all realize that this is the first incoming class, but they don't shy away from that. They are understanding of it and put together a curriculum that will allow us to succeed.

In retrospect, I should probably keep my mouth closed about how awesome the school is. That way I have a better chance to get in, but that's just not right.

Hope your having a great day Mr. Cook, in case your reading this post. If anyone has any questions about the school, honestly post them here or just call them. They are tremendously nice, plus calling them would be better since they have first hand knowledge.

Is it refundable if you choose not to attend?

Most schools do not refund deposits so people do not take up seats at various schools and drop all but the one they are going to attend and receive refunds elsewhere. I am not 100% sure but I would guess it is not refundable.

When's the last day the deposit is due? Well the first installment since it's like split up?

Deposits are not refundable and the second deposit is due thirty days after first. At least that is what I recall from when I paid.
