LIU c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I emailed them and they said letters went out in the mail USPS today so maybe us but why would the email some and USPS others

This is literally dumb lmao I’m putting my deposit down at another school tomorrow I’m so over this school and I’m in-state. The disorganization is amazing. Truly. Like I’m not trying to be rude but at this point I’m legitimately annoyed. Their whole process is just weird and I get that it’s a new school but Arizona was 100x more organized than them and were transparent from the start. How they can throw in a CASPer test mid application cycle meanwhile others were accepted without it just un-levels the playing field. They should have put out ALL decisions today/tomorrow instead of in fragments. They didn’t make it fair for everyone. This is just my opinion of course but I’m sure you can understand where my frustration is coming from.

Also why are they sending out letters via USPS in the middle of a pandemic....mail is already delayed as it is.

I understand your frustration but I would wait until at least the first to see what happens I you already got accepted to another school and plus the deadline to get back to all the schools is April 15 so you should be good

I got into SGU! I really do like the school a lot i was just waiting on LIU to make my final decision. I don’t live far from LIU so it would be a huge plus for me to be able to stay close to home. At the rate corona is going maybe it’s best for me to be in Grenada

I also got into SGU! I am deciding between LIU and them.

I think if I don’t have an email by 10am I’m going to email them and say that I was told everyone would have a decision by 3/26 and now it’s 3/27 and I’m still waiting and have been waiting since January!!

Still nothing yet for me either! Maybe later on today

Did you all have interview before? I wasn’t invited to one, so I guess that’s a rejection? I emailed the school twice, but didn’t hear back anything.

I wasn’t notified about anything. I did not have an interview invite. I had to reach out to them to see if they received all my stuff for my application to be considered completed. I understand it’s a new school and things need to be worked out so I’m assuming that is causing the lack in communication. Not to mention the pandemic is also happening.

I am also deciding between LIU and SGU. What are you leaning towards and what are your pros and cons for each. Big pro for LIU is its stateside, but con is its so new and I have no idea what the facilities are like. Also SGU is cheaper for tuition over 4 years. Cost of living is probably high in both places. I’m having a hard time making the decision.

So I had similar cons at first. After speaking with the dean though my concerns were answered at LIU. The pictures of the facilities are great, also this is her 3rd new vet school she has been apart of and the previous 2 are both successful. You should email her your questions as she puts it on the offer letter. She is very helpful! I think I am leaning towards LIU now.

Hi!

I also applied to LIU c/o 2024. Interviewed on 2/8/20 and I still haven't heard back. I am stressing out! I emailed them this morning asking when I can expect a decision, but I haven't heard back about that either...

Congrats to those of you who were accepted!!

I also emailed them this morning and haven’t heard back, I did not get an interview however they did ask me to send my transcripts in may from this semester when it’s done so I’m not sure what that means for me

Could you share with us the photos? Did they finish building? What other new vet schools was the dean a part of in establishing?

Thanks for the reply! Hope we will all hear something SOON.

They let me know that the reason for the CASPer is so they can compare to the MMI interviews so they can determine if they can just use the CASPer in the future. It doesn't hold any weight on your application.

Also - anyone trying to decide between LIU and another school?

I'm waitlisted at Michigan and I have an offer from Prince Edward Island. Every vet I've asked has told me "hand down" don't go to LIU because a new school is so risky and PEI would be much better. I'm wondering if anyone else has had recommendations/advice or what your thought process in deciding is?

Keep in mind that COVID19 is going to have an epic impact on the economy for a long time. You may not be graduating for four years, but the effects will still be evident. The last recession resulted in a lot of new grads struggling to find jobs. Everyone in 2021 onward will have the same difficulties. So picking schools that 1) have a solid reputation and 2) have a cheaper price tag will make life much easier. Unfortunately, there will still be discrimination based on where people went to school; the island students still deal with this to a small extent. Then, salaries are going to be depressed along with job numbers. Having a smaller debt load will make the stress of finding/keeping a job with a lower salary easier in the long run.

It's unfortunate, but life is going to suck for vet med for a while. This is a very important time to be thinking 20 years ahead rather than just 4 or 5.

This is very informative and I am grateful for the comment. Thank you much
