The 1/3 accepted/interview rate has me worried. How can I stand out when soooo many people get rejected?

My guess is that there are a TON of people applying with 3.0 and lower who really didnt stand a shot at acceptance anyhow, since everyone says to apply to new schools. That 3.5 science GPA has me worried however.

I'm guessing he could already determine by the people coming in for the Friday interviews just what the pool would look like for the school.

Since they said they already know we have the cognitive ability to be there, and the interview was for us to demonstrate non-cognitive skills, I wonder how much of our admissions will be based on the actual interview itself.

This is great news if true! I thought interviewing 600+ for 160 total spots was pretty high to begin with. Schools that take double that class size (like Nova) interview ~600. 500 is much more reasonable for the amount of spots available.

From MU-COM website:
To be considered a competitive applicant, candidates should have achieved at least a 3.20 science and cumulative grade point average, on a 4.00 scale.

In addition, average GPA for all applicants to date is even higher.

I do not, i would imagine later in the day. My email said "a quick email" so sounds like they let those who they didnt get to know first...and will sort the acceptances/rejections/waitlists out later in the day

Just got an email stating they weren't able to review my file today. I am so glad they emailed that rather than me waiting around 🙂

I was on the first day and there were only 28 of us, so im not sure how they reviewed. By day, alphabetical, interview score, but i was a little surprised that they didnt get to mine but oh well ill wait another week if it means good news from a great school!!!

Firstly, sorry you didn't get immediately accepted, but I wanted to ask, did they rank your status on the WL? Last year I know they did a high-med-low WL type of thing. Are they still doing that?

Thanks - it was email and I'm in the 2nd quartile out of 4. That's all I know!

I think being waitlisted this early probably means you have a good shot of getting off it later on. I would maybe call them and ask if there is anything you can do to improve your app

I was just wondering, knowing that Marian is trying to focus on primary care, if it will let students get residencies that will allow them to specialize in surgery, or go into other aspects of medicine? Where can students expect to get residency placements?

No Marian will not allow you to apply to non-primary care residencies. That's simply what you get into.


You do realize the match is not done through your school and they have no say about what you choose what to do. It's all about what you've got in terms of scores and stuff, not the school.

The school has no influence over where you go for residency. It all depends on your board scores and what specialty you're interested in. Marian has clubs for every specialty out there. Every school wants to produce primary care physicians because that's what we need, but you can be whatever your little heart desires (depending on your board scores). Hope that helps!

So I just submitted my secondary, but it is marked as incomplete because I don't have an advisor's letter. The advising department at my university does not write recommendations, so I submitted a second science professor's letter instead. Is there anything I have to do to make sure my application doesn't end up in no man's land for being marked incomplete without an advisor's letter?
