Is there an applicant dinner tonight with some current students for Fridays interviewees?
Hi and thanks for calling. You've reached the current students. Sorry but we're currently unavailable right now due to mental break down/finals. Please leave a message after the beep. Thanks.

Seriously tho, I didn't know we were even doing that...if we even are. Good idea. If someone hasn't started that up maybe I shall. I enjoyed "current student" dinners when interviewing at schools last year. Good luck with your interview.

Lol.
Any of you guys will be at the new students tour in March?

I'd assume some of us will be there... All depends if we have an exam coming up or not. But the school did tell us to save the date.

We are planning for a strong current student presence, but it is right before spring break ...

Buddy,
We started planning this week. Stay tuned.

Just booked my flight, hotel and car. Looking forward to this school.

What is MU-COM's opinion of repeats? I know in general DO schools value redemption, but wanted to hear from the source. I retook 5 freshman repeats, but still did a handful of upper level sciences. 3.1cGPA 2.7sGPA 1.5 years ago, 3.4 cGPA 3.6 sGPA now.

I'm not the source but have a similar background. My retakes didn't come up during the interview and weren't an issue.

Anyone know what books we will be using?

Would it be unwise to buy books from current students?

Im looking to buy hard copies.

All books will be on your iPad. You're welcome to buy hard copies but certainly not necessary. Some students in our class did this. However I've only read from the textbooks a handful of times... Most reading is supplemental and not required.

I have not used any Apple products except a Ipod touch years ago. In addition, I have always studied off physical books.
To be honest, I am a little worried about this transition!

p.s. any idea which model of the ipad will it be? maybe I ought to buy one to get used to it first.

I want to know what books we will be using because I'm currently enrolled in biochemistry and anatomy and physiology and do not own books. I think they would be helpful now. Any help here would be appreciated.

Not sure about the iPad model you'd get. We got the iPad 4 with retina display. Now that the iPad Air is out, that might be an option? No idea.
I would not suggesting purchasing your own just to get used to it (waste of money!). During orientation week, they give you plenty of time to play with the iPads and get used to them. I really only use mine for 2 things: watch lecture recordings and use it to take exams on. I know it seems like there's a huge learning curve to us being paper-less (I was worried about this too!), but you get used to it really fast. A lot of students still print off slides and notes so that they can physically write on paper rather than write on the iPad.... so the learning curve isn't really that bad. I have always been a pen and paper (and physical textbooks) kind of person, so I was worried, too. I had also not had any sort of apple device so I was worried about that, as well... now that I have an iPad, I bought an iPhone and macbook... you get hooked pretty easily 🙂 . Hope this eases your concerns!

Good question, but this is hard to answer without seeing the context of the full application.

FYI. Retakes would not come up during the interview because our interviews are closed file.

Likely, the textbook list will not be available before May pending final decision by the course directors. If done sooner, it could be released sooner. However, all of your textbooks will be electronic and will be pushed automatically to your iPad during orientation. All students will be billed directly for the electronic textbooks.

Finally, a number of actual textbooks are carried by the bookstore--and you can review and purchase during orientation.

Would I have to use an iPad? I have an android device and I'm already used to it.

We provide you with an iPad. The books are pushed there but can be accessed from some other computers. We will also publish a list of computer requirements around March since not all tablets and platforms are secure enough for use.

What is the Admission's opinion on retakes in general? Is there a "soft cap" i.e, re takes in the pre recs are viewed less favorable or a class taken three times is too many times, etc? I understand that you just explained that the interviewer would not ask questions about retakes, but when the committee is reviewing or screening applicants, does the amount of retakes ever come under scrutiny?

Can the same be said for multiple mcat scores?

Good questions, but there is not one answer that works for every applicant. Each applicant is the sum of all the parts of her/his application which is reviewed in its totality.

Hi! What range of dates is the committee currently on for reviewing applications? Thank you!

If the books are supplemental and not required, can we decline to receive the electronic copies on the iPads? Just out of curiosity how much do these electronic textbooks cost?

Electronic books are not supplemental; they are required. First year students were charged $400 for electronic textbooks; this is subject to change.

Yes, as mentioned during the interview day.

The committee meets weekly on Thursdays. Candidates who interview will generally be presented to the committee the following week unless we don't get through all the files. MU-COM releases all decisions by three business days after the committee meeting.

Ya I agree! I picked 3/15. Hoping an earlier date comes up. I've seen MU-COM post on here before when dates open up.
