Marian University (MU-COM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
An interview decision typically takes about 3 weeks; however, processing can take longer at certain times of the year. Finally, as stated before, some screeners work faster than others. Thanks for your patience.

So, what's the worst case scenario? If we don't get an answer by a certain period of time, do we just assume auto rejection? I'm wondering because it actually took Marian 9+ weeks to review my letters initially. I certainly don't want to bother you guys about my application considering that you're already super busy.

All files receive a decision. If you have questions, please call.

All admissions committee decisions from last week have been released. Applicants with files carried over received an update email last Thursday; those files will be reviewed this week.

This was a top choice school, but seeing others get accepted here already and me scheduling interviews at other schools, all the while my AACOMAS letters are STILL not received, I've pretty much lost hope on MUCOM. Good luck to everyone with II!

Hey guys! I am new to SDN but have been following throughout this cycle. Super excited for an II yesterday and have signed up for 10/2! Just wanted to check in and see if people had recommendations of where to stay (maybe some options to slender down the list MU-COM has on their website) or just wanted to meet up before hand to grab a bite to eat Thursday night. I am OOS so am probably going to be flying in on Thursday. Good luck to everyone!

You are welcome to contact us anytime if you have questions. The director's email is listed earlier in the thread and on the MU-COM website. He replies to messages in the order in which they were received.

I'm getting anxious now as I have been complete for 4 weeks! Here's to hoping for some good news 🙂 Congrats to those of you already accepted so early, I'm sure you guys are ecstatic!

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me understand what Marian's accreditation status is? I know they're pending accreditation until 2017, but right now it has provincial accreditation? What does that mean and if it does not get accredited in 2017 then what does that mean for its students?

Congrats!! I'll be interviewing in a little bit. How did you prepare for the interview?
I re-read my entire application and read about techniques for handling the MMI scenarios. I felt like my performance in them was decent, but nothing exceptional. The best advice really is, to just be yourself! I also went into the interview day with optimistic and open mind, and I think that showed in my interview as well.

Thanks for the advice!

Anyone know when those who were put on pre-interview hold will be reviewed again?

I think my letters were in before I submitted my secondary- I think my letters were submitted 9/1

There's no way to submit your letters to this school before secondary submission.. I think a lot of us have letters submitted to AACOMAS before submitting this secondary but on their end their saying it takes 3-5 weeks to review those letters... I don't know I'm confused but I guess that's good your complete! So your portal says complete ??

Waitlisted 🙁 is it possible to get off the waitllist before December?
Dont lose hope! Just recall back to the interview where they said alot of students end up coming off the waitlist. I dont have the paper with the stats with me, but hang in there! And make sure to notify them if you've made an improvements.

I'm sure there will be some good waitlist movement by Late Dec/Early Jan once the first deposit deadline passes. Unlikely before then though. Hang in there!!

Quick question. If I have an afternoon interview (the 12:30p-5pm), would I have enough time to make a 7:30 pm flight out of Indy? Tickets are almost sold out so if someone could give me some insight here that would be great! Thanks
I made it with time to spare.

@MU COM @6IX_GOD & anyone else, can you please explain MU-COM's integrated training curriculum? I don't get how it actually differs from traditional models.

(for reference- I do understand the contrast between models offered at LECOM that include didactic/traditional vs problem-based/small student groups)

anyone? this would be super helpful!

It is not a whole different learning style as you mentioned - ie PBL vs traditional lecture!
I attended MUCOM's open house in April and what I understood from them is that the integrated curriculum means an approach to learning each of the organ systems from various different angels. For example - if we were studying about the cardiovascular system, we would not just study the physiology or the anatomy, we would also study the diseases (pathology), the immune and lymphatic system component of the cardiovascular system, the pharmacology specific to this system, histology specific to this system etc..

As opposed to a non-integrative approach, where we would study the immune and lymphatic systems, pharmacology, or pathology or histology as separate courses...

That said, there will always be some overlap or some things that have to be studied as a separate discipline (ex path, histo, etc), but most of the times they will be broken into pieces and integrated into the study of the respective organ system.

Hope this helps!
