Midwestern University - Arizona c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I received an interview back in October but havent scheduled an interview because a ticket to AZ is $300+ from OH and I’m trying to save up. Anyone else in the same boat? Or are people just waiting to hear back from other cvms? I’m just not sure what I should/am doing as a first time applicant.

Has anyone heard anything?
Another person (not on SDN) who interviewed on 10/30 at the same time as myself told me yesterday that she received an offer of admission as well on 11/19 via email and portal changes.

Do you know if they happened to be a WHICHE applicant as well?

I know she wasn't WICHE, she was OOS. I believe she was from the south.
As far as I know, Midwestern doesn't take IS vs OOS vs WICHE into consideration. Everyone is in the same pool.

I called yesterday and asked about the 10/29 applicants, she said they were still making decisions, but said they should be deciding this week? I don't know if she's just required to say that though. She did look into mine specifically and that was "still being decided".

So I also called just now (I interviewed 10/30) and they said they hadn't got to my application yet and it could be another month until they meet again and get to mine.

I feel like that's messed up if they said we should hear something within 3-4 weeks of our interview.

I just checked the mail and I was placed on the alternate waitlist 🙁

Do they not email? They just send through snail mail? I interviewed 11/06 (so not exactly the same boat but I was expecting to hear back soon since I know they decide in batches)

I’m glad there is at least hope that hearing nothing yet means you can still get good news. I thought that with people getting acceptances this week I was automatically out of the running.

If you get rejected or are put on the waiting list you’ll receive a letter in the mail. You’ll only get an email if you’ve been accepted.

Don't give up hope, y'all. I interviewed 10/31 last year and some people from my interview group heard in the middle of November and I didn't. I was super upset and thought I had been rejected but called them and they said they hadn't gotten to mine yet. I found out I was accepted on December 5th so I had to wait 5 weeks from my interview to finding out I was accepted. It's just due to the Thanksgiving holiday. I promise it'll be okay. Don't give up hope. I was super upset and stressed about it. And then the one day I wasn't thinking about it (I was out Christmas shopping with my mom) I got the news. I know everyone says don't stress it, but really, don't stress it.

What was the interview like and does anyone have any tips?

The interview day was pretty relaxed. They give you a packet of information when you get there that has your schedule for the day and a packet of short bios about the staff. It also tells you who your interviewers are so if you want to read up a little on them you can.

The first part is a student panel where you can ask whatever questions you'd like to about campus life, classes, etc.

Your group is broken into two. Group 1 does their interviews while group 2 goes on a tour of the campus. Then when group 1 interviews are done they go on a tour, and group 2 does their interviews.

Interviews are about 30 minutes a piece max, some finished in less time than others. In my experience the interview questions seemed to be more about how I would respond to specific scenarios, and not so much about me as an individual. I do have a lot of clinic background so I think that's why.

I would strongly think about what strengths and weaknesses you have, and consider different types of scenarios and your responses to them.

After the interviews are completed, the campus provides lunch in the cafeteria for about an hour.

When lunch is through the dean takes you on a tour of the Companion Clinic. There's a lot of walking so wear shoes most comfortable for that.

When the tour is finished they bring you back in for a short financial presentation that talks briefly about the different types of loans that are offered, and so forth.

After this you're free to go. My day concluded at about 2:15

I’m an OOS applicant, hadn’t been waitlisted and I just got my interview invitation this week! Scheduled my interview for 01/29/20. Anyone else going then?

Same! No email but logged in and received an invite!

I interviewed last week on the 20th! If anyone has any questions let me know! We were told we would be notified in 3-4 weeks with their decision! It's nerve wrecking!

What were the interviews like? Did they ask you questions specific to your experiences or more general ones where you incorporated your experiences into the answer? Did it seem like the interviewees reviewed your application beforehand? What aspect of Midwestern do you think sets it apart from other programs?

Thanks for your insight and best of luck with acceptances 🙂

In my interview, I was asked questions about my understanding of vet med, and I incorporated my experiences to answer those questions. There were also a few ethical/situational questions. They did not seem to have reviewed my app, but they did ask if there’s anything not on my application that I would like to talk about. To me, what sets Midwestern apart is the high amount of surgeries during school, training on client communication, and that it’s a private professional school. From what I saw and was told, it does not have a big party environment (which is a pro or con depending on who you are).

In my interview, I was asked mostly behavioral questions (strengths, weaknesses, who I am, etc), ethical questions, what made me want to go to Midwestern, and some basic questions about what I thought about the profession. Some questions they had built off my answers. I tried to incorporate as many of my experiences into my answers as possible. They had reviewed my application beforehand, but not the grades/GPA part. They knew everything else. I thought that their heavy surgery involvement, abundant outside opportunities to learn, and the kindness/happiness of the current students, faculty, and staff were standouts of the school.

Has anyone who interviewed on 11/12 heard back?

Sent from my iPhone using SDN

You probably won’t hear back for another week or two, considering the holiday that just passed. This time of year can make the wait a bit longer with the holidays that kind of gather here.

Received my interview invitation to Midwestern a couple of weeks ago and I am thrilled! The interview prep begins now. Any tips/recommendations for vet school interviews in general would be greatly appreciated. Right now I'm more excited than nervous-but I'm sure as the time gets closer to the interview I'll become more anxious. Trying not to let that get in my way though!

For those of you waiting to hear after interviews, WonderingStudent, PenguinPal506 . I interviewed on 11/21 and was told a couple things. The admissions committee which decided on applicants meets every 3 or so weeks and makes decisions on the applicants who have interviewed in that time. They were scheduled to meet on 11/25 but because that fell on a holiday week the expectation was that enough committee members would not be present to make admission decisions. I assume that is what happened, in which case they will meet at some later date to make decisions on those who interviewed and have not heard back yet. I was not told what date that meeting might occur on, I was told to expect a to hear about my candidacy by mid December.

Thanks for the info! It would be nice for them to have inform us of this fact so that we aren’t sitting hear worrying that not hearing anything means we were rejected. Wish they would give specifics in when they meet but what can you do. Admissions does whatever they want.

AKAI95: I had the same experience as Jenjen and stuckintheponyphase. I mostly had behavioral type “tell me about a time when...” questions and some situational questions. I did not get that many vet med related questions. They provided lunch and gave a tour of the clinics after interviews concluded. I think what sets them apart from other schools is that they pride themselves on a curriculum that prepares students to be day one ready vets, so lots of hands on experience throughout the four years. Hope that helps! And hope all of us recent interviewees hear something soon! I was really nervous during my interview, so I really hope I didn’t blow it!

My applicant checklist updated today saying I need to complete biochem, but no student accepted list...

Congrats to all! My interview is next week! eek!

I wonder how many offers remain; it seems like a lot have gone out already.

For those that got accepted, did they feel like their interview went well? I'm too scared to check my portal especially since the longer since my interview it gets the more critical of how i did in my interview.

Edit: AHHHHHH I got an email from them at 12:37 pm EST that I was accepted.

Does anyone know how flexible Midwestern is about class semester hours? My college stupidly counts every class (English, Science w/lab, Math, etc) as 3.5 credits so currently they show 7 out of the required 8 semester credits for General Chemistry to be fulfilled.

What if they make me retake gen chem lol

Anyone hear anything that interviewed 10/29 or 10/30?
