Anyone know how long it usually takes for NYIT to make a decision on your app once you have your interview? Lol I haven't had mine yet btw, I'm just wondering

You have a 6 in the BS section? That can be pretty lethal for schools.

I got a II with a 6 verbal. but my overall was a 31 (13/6/12).

I think they were just making the point that they didn't get screened out bc of a subsection score!

Try contacting admissions, they're super nice

I think calling would be easier, but it probably doesn't matter.

Just ask if there is an admissions counselor who you can ask specific questions about your app. Then if they screen based on subsection score and if your stats would be competitive or not, I think their mcat average was a 27/28? So I'd think a bunch of people have scores similar to yours.

Sorry should have clarified that. I was just trying to say that they won't screen you out for a 6 in the verbal. Other than the 6 in verbal, your other sections are pretty average for their MCAT score, so you have a chance.

Also, call them. The lady that answers the phone calls is super nice. Plus, I feel like admins don't always respond right away. I've had some that have taken 2 weeks to get back to me.
 
Anyone know what the interviews here are like? I have mine coming up and would love to know what to expect going in!
 
So far this is my only II (9/30 in the afternoon slot), so there's a bit of pressure haha. Anyone know what the format is, or how likely those with II are to be accepted here? I know for some schools it means you're almost accepted, others not so much.
 
For the experience section on secondary app - did you guys list exact dates? I have ranges of time and hoping that would suffice :/

I have an interview here 9/24 and am kinda nervous. I am in state and have a 26 MCAT and 3.82/3.72 gpa, and am nervous. What are the chances of getting in with an interview?

Wait, are you nervous? haha. Take a deep breath.
If they invited you for an interview, they must like you for some reason. Or else they wouldn't want to spend their time/money on you. Although your MCAT is below their average, your gpa is higher than their average. Your chances are good, unless you botch the interview. Good luck!
 
Do we have to list an exact date for experiences or can we just list a month?

For everyone who sent their LORs via Interfolio, did you send them by mail? I do not see NYIT as a option for electronic delivery... I tried contacting the school but they haven't been able to answer my question (frustrating).

I appreciate the help!

I sent my LORs electronically through interfolio. When I type NYIT into the search box on interfolio this shows up:
"NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine
2015-2016 Letters of Recommendation for NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine"

that is just so weird because it doesn't show up for me
 
Hmm... Hope to hear from NYIT soon! I'm curious if letters are a problem (Interfolio -> AACOMAS), but none of the DO schools I've applied to have said anything to me about corrupt letters. We shall see.

IS/3.6uGPA/3.9gGPA (research/engineering MS)/513 MCAT. Submitted 8/11.

Not sure why its not showing up, maybe contact Interfolio support? They are pretty helpful


Anyone know what's the turnaround for II? Its been about a week since I submitted but I'm OOS so I know my chances are low.
 
Submitted August 3rd, no response? do they send formal rejections?

Anyone else feel uneasy about the supposedly high attrition rate here? This was my top choice but now I'm second guessing myself after hearing how the administration is sometimes unsupportive.
 
Finished the secondary this weekend - wasn't too bad. How long after completion do they usually ask for interview or reject?

Been done for a month+ and no response yet. Not even a completion email actually. I just logged on and it says "application complete" though.

Around 10-12 % attrition rate reported on these forums. Fail 2 systems and your dismissed. I'm not going to med school with the mindset of failing but I realize most people that do go to medical school are smart individuals and that's a pretty high attrition rate. I believe the normal attrition rate for others schools is around 2-5%....NYCOM's attrition rate is double that. So either, the school does a poor job of screening applicants and some people who do not belong in medical school are getting through or the school needs to revise some of it's policies. However, the school has great affiliations and does match students into great residencies. I don't know if the attrition rate is something to worry about or not. Hopefully a current student can chime in and voice their thoughts.

so i just called them and admissions said they dont do formal rejections nor do they send complete emails....

I would not worry about this. Unless you heard it from a faculty member, it's all speculation. I don't find the administration unsupportive at all. Everyone at this school wants the students to succeed. All the faculty have an open door policy. Sure, there will be lecturers with teaching styles that you don't like, but this is true of any school. We also have an app called Piazza where students can ask questions anytime (anonymously if you want), and other students or faculty reply. No one is asking you to go through med school alone. There are learning specialists you can see if you're anxious about anything or if you're struggling. That being said, the school also doesn't spoon feed their students. Students learn to be independent right from the start, so if you need someone to constantly hold your hand through med school, then this program isn't for you. HOWEVER, in my opinion, it is because of this that the students are well-respected and match into great residencies. Hope this helps! Good luck with the application process! 🙂

For those who has interviewed at NYIT-COM this cycle, how was it? What was the format?
 
Just interviewed this morning, it was a very positive experience overall and it will be a long 4-6 weeks to hear back. As far as the interview goes it was just one-on-one conversations, mine lasted roughly 25 minutes, no unexpected questions at all. I know it's much easier said then done before you actually interview but try to relax! You got this

Thanks mine is next week, what are are some of the questions they asked? this is my first interview of the cycle and im really nervous!

Also had my interview this morning, I think it went very well! Like ^ they said, very relaxed interviewers, all the other interviewees I met were very nice

How was your impression of the school? This school gets a lot of slack on SDN so I'm curious of how they presented themselves during the interview, as in curriculum, clinical rotations, student life, etc.
