Has anybody gotten off wait list here? I interviewed in August.. got waitlisted in January and have not heard a peep since. I wonder if they're even interested in me

Honestly don't even fret if you were wait listed here as your last option.
The ambience of this school is kind of depressing. There's not really any community there.
Just retake some classes this summer or retake your mcat and apply elsewhere next year.
The following comments also relate to touro NY.

That's an unfair generalization about a place that you visited for a few hours (assuming you are an incoming OMSI).

NYIT COM, like anything else, is going to be what you make of it. If you want to stay inside your house every day and study for 15 hours, you can do that. If you want to get involved and volunteer, join clubs, do research, etc., you can do that as well. The students here are truly amazing, and we are always going the extra mile to help each other out.

At the end of the day, you're going to choose a school that fits you best. NYIT COM has an outstanding match year after year, and we rotate in some of the nations best hospitals. Our professor are amazing, and there is absolutely no way that you will find a better anatomy department. Our match list hasn't come out yet, but check out this article if you're interested.

Right off locust.
It's not a generalization it's a general consensus of the students attending there both graduate and undergraduate.
Many people get depressed and it heavily effects their study capabilities.

Lol, "general consensus". This is an assumption that may be based, at best, on anecdotal evidence. drdeeezy makes a great point that where ever you end up, your success will depend on your ability to work hard and take advantage of the opportunities and mentorship each school provides its students. People, lets not put down schools even if it is somehow an attempt to console others (there are other ways to encourage people to improve their applications for the next cycle). Try to take the high road here.

The fact that you live around the corner and know some students that attend the school does not make it okay to get on a forum and bash an institution. If you're going into the medical field, it is important that you hold yourself to a high standard. It is unprofessional to put down a school based on the fact that you "live right around the block".

I am a first year and I can honestly say that I, along with my friends, are having an amazing experience at NYCOM. As far as depression effecting student's study capabilities, that is an outrageous claim to make. Google "depression in medical school" and see how many articles come up. Depression in medical school is an issue in every medical school, and I would be shocked to find a comprehensive study that claims that the aesthetics of the campus play a major role.

I don't mean to be defensive, and my intentions are not to start a fight, but I feel it is my obligation to give some real feedback to those who are really considering coming to this school. When push comes to shove, this is medical school. You're going to wake up, study, eat lunch, study, eat dinner, study, go to sleep, repeat, and that will be your life regardless of where you end up.
 
It's not about how appealing a school looks physically
It's about the community.

Nycom is a commuter school and furthermore a commuter community.
Most people who go there regret it because they have no fondness of the university or furthermore pride.
I compare nycom to being the stony brook university of osteopathic schools in the northeast.

I don't mean to attack the school, it's my honest opinion.
I would even go as far as to say that the faculty is unhappy.
My godfather taught there for quiet a while and he happily took the chance to teach at a different COM.
He found it hard to take pride in his work at NYCOM frankly because so little input was given to it.
Very little is given back to the school after people graduate. Almost no one looks back after they graduate.
Which sucks because you should foster a network that builds a bridge to help out those that come after you 🙁

Im not here to start a fight I'm just here to encourage people not to slouch if they didn't make it here. And to apply elsewhere somewhere better next year.
 
About 10-15 nycom grads/students I know were happy they went there. Great rotations, great match, good prep for steps. They all matched into the field of choice (some highly competitive). Everyone has a different experience but I would say it depends on the individual.

I have a ton of friends who are OMS1 - OMS3 and the ones I've spoken to all love the school. Obviously at times they are stressed and things can get hard, but like @drdeezy said it's like that at any school

That's very strange because I have a lot of friends who go to NYIT-COM and they all seem to love it from what I've heard from them. Also comparing it to Stony Brook is a good thing in my opinion since my gf went to Stony Brook and absolutely loved it. I know a lot of people who didn't like it but most people loved it, because at the end of the day it's what you make of it. You are in control of making an experience the best or worst it can be. I think the same goes for NYIT-COM the school may be a commuter school but you can still enjoy going there and make the best of your experience, just my opinion though.
 
All that I am saying is that it is both immature and unprofessional to get on a forum and say "Guys don't worry because I live around the corner/heard from a bunch of people that this school isn't what it's chalked up to be".

For every student that has issues with it, there may be 10 that absolutely love their experience, and the same goes for administration.

Before you enter medical school, you may want to start doing some research on what "evidence based medicine" means.

For instance, NYIT's endowment was $113.3 million dollars last year. So again, before making outrageous and untrue claims based on hearsay, understand that Google is always just a click away.
 
That endowment was not from perDonal donations for the most part it was from nfp divisions of businesses such as charities and affiliations that donated for tax deferment as most businesses do.
My primary attack isn't based on the fact that I heard people talk about this lol.

I went here for undergrad.
I was social chair for my organization.
I planned many campus events.
And most of my friends ended up going to graduate school there out of convenience.

Let me tell you it was painful to get any turnout.
Even free food didn't sway people to change their mind from "what's the point.... I'm just going to go home and eat then study"

It is what u make of it, and I made all I could out of it.
I mean even look at the group on fb group for 2020.

People rarely post, and if they do, no one supports them or offers anything lol.

I am sorry that you had a poor undergraduate experience, and I cannot comment on the UG school because I did not go there. We remain pretty separate from the undergraduate school. However, all that I am saying is that your undergraduate experience should not undermine all of the great qualities of the medical school, and the fact that everyone that I have come into contact with is enjoying the process.

It's unfair to bash the medical school because your experience with the undergraduate portion was mediocre. And what exactly would you like people to post on the FB group to please you? We still have a substantial amount of time before school starts so majority of the people don't even know each other yet. As @drdreeezy said, please act professional when sharing information with people looking to apply here.
 
Does anyone have an idea of how many people are typically placed on the wait list?

lol this got nothing to do with the school or the community, but sounds more like you doing an inadequate job as social chair. soooooooo........
 
It's honestly a terrible social environment also not very articulated in respects to professional networking.
Just saying it how it is.

To follow up Compare it to the fb page of another school.

People are way more outgoing and upper classmen get involved to help their fellow students
But not in this school.

i know a good percentage of them who are 1st years rn who just wanted to join the group. there might be 190 ppl in that group but not necessarily in the class of 2020.
 
I just talked to an admission specialist because I'm just too anxious. They said they don't send out rejection letters AT ALL. And yes, they will be interviewing til the end of April. Also, she said the next set of interview invites will be sent out in the next week...if not she told me to apply again (May 1st).

I'm a bit confused. Does this mean people that aren't accepted all get waitlisted? Or do you mean that people that are rejected just don't receive any sort of letter/notification? Do you get what I mean

I haven't been put on the wait list. I'm guessing you're put on the wait list after the interview. I haven't got to that yet 🙁. So if you don't get an interview invite in the next week or 2, it's probably a rejection.
 
People do get rejection letters. They are uncommon but they are sent out. If you get an interview to the school that means you're qualified so they don't tend to reject afterwards and you are more likely to get an acceptance or waitlist. From previous years posts it doesn't seem like there is much movement but I'd say to keep hopes high. No one really knows what admissions is thinking and it's not over till it's over. Has anyone over the age of 24 applied for the need- based aid? It says to provide the last three years of tax information from your parents but I haven't been able to reach anyone in financial aid to confirm the process
 
After speaking to current students I'm kinda confused. Are we actually having our white coat ceremony this August? According to the current students, we're supposed to have it our second year.
 
I think they changed it for this year based on feedbacks.

I considered applying to DPC but I decided against it. An NYIT DPC student on here I had messaged told me it took him a month to here back after sending in his DPC app. He applied in the middle of April and heard back mid-May.
 
Would I be at a disadvantage if I was accepted off of the waitlist? Like, in terms of applying for DPC or getting aid or any of the other things people who already heard back have had the chance to do?

I'll spare the details but it is absolutely ridiculous that a school thinks it is okay to abruptly hang up telephone calls, lie about application/deposit statuses, or forward applications to satellite campuses without proper consent. Unbelievable.
To 2016-2017 applicants: Go to either of the other Touro campuses.
