**Official PASS 2025 Pediatric Dentistry Residency Interviews/Information

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this! Very much in shock and devastated. Completely rethinking all of my interviews and wondering if I thought I did well but people didn’t like me? Idk it’s a weird thing to process. Definitely going to look at post match.

Question—if a program I ranked has an open match spot, does that mean they didn’t rank me at all? So I probably should not reach out? Or should I? Thank you for your help and support!
If they have an open match spot & you interviewed, I believe you would have a good chance at post match with them. Even though they might not have ranked you, they need a position filled now.

In that case I would contact them again and express your desire for that position. If you managed to receive an interview from there, you should be competitive for the program.

Longshot but if anyone here is going to be starting at the Children's Hospital of Michigan 2-year program this June/July PM me! I'd love to get in contact.

does anyone have any insight as to why there are so many unfilled positions/post match spots for peds in previous years?

Just curious why candidates are left unmatched and around 40 positions aren’t filled

Did anyone interview at Boston U and have any insight why 8/10 spots are unfilled? Got a post match interview with them already but really wondering that!
maybe bc they don't give a stipend? can't find info on a stipend anywhere on BU so that's what I'm assuming? not sure

Tuition is crazy, and no stipend. It comes down if you're okay taking on 200k in debt to start your residency/peds career a year sooner, or if you would rather wait and reapply.

What does it mean when the program I interviewed has an opening position, and I didn’t match?
They didn’t rank me? 🙁

They didn’t rank me?
Correct, they did not rank you.

Here’s a good video explaining how the Match works.

Has anyone received any replies after sending post-match emails?

Can someone please update if/when they get an interview at Jacobi??🙏🏼 I reached out to a lot of post-match programs but it’s been pretty quiet. Is everyone else experiencing this?

Yes, I only received back from BU, wanted to share my PASS application!

I was interviewed by BU on January 6 and i was told that the response will take few months, should i assume that it was for the post match positions? Do i need to contact the director?

Thank you in advance

Hi, congrats to those who matched and if you didn't it's okay!
I'm a D3 who will be applying this fall, I was wondering if there was a forum or if anyone doesn't mind sharing info about programs and why they applied. I am currently trying to narrow programs but I don't know too much about a number of them. Anything will be appreciated. Thank you!

I’m happy to share my experience:

I graduated a few years ago and have been working in a pediatric office ever since. My main goal was to see more sedation cases and treat a higher volume of patients, so I focused on hospital-based programs. I externed at several to observe their operations and get a sense of their locations and cultures. I also applied to some hybrid programs because of my family needs and to see how they compared. I ended up interviewing at four programs and ultimately ranked the hospital-based one highest.

For anyone in a similar situation, I recommend applying broadly and choosing the program that feels like the best fit. Most pediatric programs cover similar material, and you’ll continue learning once you’re out in practice.

After my externship, I realized I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it unless you have a low GPA or no pediatric experience at all. Observing someone else’s treatment wasn’t easy for me—I assumed people would be non-judgmental, but it often felt like all eyes were on me.

Good luck!

Just to give an overview on the types of programs, there are generally three kinds of peds programs: hospital based, school based, and hybrid.
Hospital based programs (ie. UPMC) tend to be faster pace while school based programs place more emphasis on research and literature (ie. UPitt). Hybrid programs are a mix between the two and will have you spending time in both environments (ie. UWashington+Seattle Children's Hospital). Programs are very location dependent so what I've said is just a generalization!

Another thing to consider is on-call, whether you want a Masters or not, and tuition/salary. I recommend looking on the AAPD website for more information regarding each program: AAPD | Residency Programs . Good luck on your journey and if I can be of any assistance just shoot me a msg.

Do you guys thing if we didnt match this year its better to do a GOR or work at a pediatric office and reapply ?

I think hybrid programs offer the best balance, but I might be biased.

Anyone willing to share info on Children's Hospital Colorado and Denver Health Medical Center, how they compare? I've been on the AAPD and their individual websites. Just curious if anyone has any stories or opinions.

Would doing a year of GPR or working in private practice/ DSO more benefit my application for next year?

I could see both being extremely helpful. I do think that a GPR might be viewed more favourably as admissions is usually concerned about "teachability" and ability to take instruction well.

Children's Hospital Colorado sees more medically complex patients

First and foremost, congratulations to all those who matched this cycle!
As I prepare for the upcoming application cycle, I would greatly appreciate any recommendations or insights on programs they interviewed or matched! Thank you in advance 🙂

What geographical area were you planning on applying to? Might be more helpful if you received info on programs more relevant to you!

If we matched, can we still attend this year’s AAPD paying the student fee? I’m guessing we can’t, but just thought I’d check! Thanks 🙂
