Oklahoma State (OSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What are your feelings about the new curriculum being implemented next year? At the interview a lot of the current students were talking about how great it was to have the OSU share site where previous students can share notes and such. One of my worries is being the first class to go through the new curriculum and having to work through the kinks and essentially being the guinea pig. Have you been happy with the quality of your rotation sites? What do you love most about OSU and what is something that you wish you could change? Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions, very much appreciated!

I haven't heard much about it to be honest. I know they already were systems oriented in 2nd year with Path/Clinical problem solving but now will be forcing Pharm and other classes to follow suit. 1st year is going to be a mess honestly but I think once the kinks get worked out it won't be a big deal.

Both my class the the class after mine have been Guinea pigs for a lot of this and its been rough on us for the constant shift back and forth but overall its a necessary change. Luckily Dr. Goljan decided not to retire so those classes to come will be fortunate for that.

i can't believe they waitlist this early on in the application cycle lol

Just called and Sarah said they sent out letters on Monday to anyone who didn't get a call already

yup. sounded like they made the decisions by Monday and anyone who didn't get a call Monday was waitlisted. I can't believe it! I figured since we had such early interviews we'd get in soon! Well the waiting game begins...

I think the letter will say we're waitlisted but I'm not sure. If so, hopefully being waitlisted early will help. It sucks for me because I already graduated so there's not really any way for me to improve my gpa. I could retake the mcat but I really do not want to do that...

that's what I'm hoping for too man!

OSU is whole picture oriented. Get out there and shadow and do community service, volunteer at hospitals, etc. anything helps.

Yeah, that stuff I could do no problem. I just have a feeling it was my mcat/gpa. I had good LORs from my prehealth committee, an MD, and a DO with over 300 hours of clinical experience. Or I guess my interview could have been terrible.

Anyways, happy thanksgiving to everyone and I'm just thankful I had the opportunity to interview at OSU

No one can tell you chances. All we can do is wish you luck and tell you to stay relaxed.

Hey everyone, I have an interview coming up at OSU and have a favor to ask. I did not save the essay questions from the secondary because I thought I would be able to go back and review them before my interview. However, you cannot access the secondary after it has been submitted. It is hard to keep track of what each school asks on their secondaries and I cannot remember what OSU asked. Could someone please message me the questions off the secondary if you were smarter than me and saved the questions! Thank you!

The only real prompt on the OSU secondary is "Why OSU". I think one of the others was "What have you been doing since graduating" or something like that. Has anyone heard of any kind of waitlist movement? All this anxiety is killing me.

Great thank you for your help! Good luck!

Found out last week I'm on the wait list. 3.53 cgpa, 3.25 sgpa, and 25 mcat. I felt like the interview went ok, so I think it's my stats. I got on the wait list early so I think that definitely helps. Going to start working for EMSA in January, so I'll let OSU know and maybe that will give me bonus points.

Hey everyone! I'm currently an MS-1 at OSU and I was reading all the posts about getting waitlisted and I just wanted to let everyone know that its ok to be on the waitlist! I think about half of the class ends up being on the waitlist at one point or another so don't let it get you down! OSU looks at their applicants constantly so there's really no telling when you will get accepted. Always make sure to update them if you're taking more classes or adding volunteer hours, etc. so they can update your application. I'm here if you all have any questions and I'll try to answer as best as I can! Feel free to PM me for any personal questions. Good luck to everyone and hang in there!

Just curious, any one out there at OSU or applying from TU?

so does osu waitlist everyone that interviews or do they do a lot of rejections as well?

I think they only reject people post-interview if they think you'll turn out to be a serial killer or something along those lines. Hopefully with this next round of acceptances, some of us will make it off the waitlist.

I think OSU generally waitlists a majority of the interviewees and accepts/rejects a small percentage right off the bat. They are pretty good at keeping up with things so if you feel like you've been waiting a little long or want to know whats going on with your app, like how to improve and such, just give them a call and they'll be more than willing to help you out!

^ This is what the student ambassadors stressed. MANY people in the MSI and MSII classes were apparently on the waitlist at one point or another and it does move often. I personally know someone who was on it for about a month last year before being accepted in January.

Do I need to touch on why I want to be a DO in the why OSU question?

I just called the admissions office. I was told that there would be no more interview offers until after the new year. But we can send updates in the meantime, such as fall grades or more shadowing hours as an email or through AACOMAS.

Have they already given out all of their acceptances?

At my interview date on Nov. 29th they said there were plenty of spots open. I don't know what number is exactly, but I am pretty darn sure they haven't given out all acceptances yet.

Awesome thanks!

Does anyone know if they'll be pulling people off the waitlist between now and January even though they aren't interviewing during this time?

I believe at every meeting where they decide on acceptance/wait-list/rejections from previous interview rounds, they also pull a few people off wait-list. That's what I have gathered from reading SDN and I believe the school said something about it at interview day.

There are no interviews this week or till January. Sarah informed us at our interview that last Friday was the last of the fall season till after the holidays.

Did she tell you all when they would let you know?

On interview Thursday they said we would find out in 2-3 weeks. So likely sometime late next week.

Does anyone know what day of the week the selection committee usually meets on to make decisions?

Not really sure, but I think they meet earlier in the week. Like Monday or Tuesday. I interviewed on a Thursday and they sent out acceptances/waitlists the next Monday.

Cool thank you!

anyone hear anything recently?

I haven't so I hope we are all in the same boat. I don't think they will make any decisions this week. They had finals last week and part of this week I think, so I bet they won't decide on that last round of interviews until next week sometime. Just a guess.

I was afraid to ask the same question! Nothing yet either. Interviewed on the 30th.
