Oklahoma State University (OSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have high hopes for the calls coming very soon (perhaps today or tomorrow).
I received an email this morning from Ms. Quinten saying that the committee has already met and made their decisions.

Nope. Might hear back from OU before OSU at this rate (although OSU is my top choice).

So, I'm currently waiting on an invitation to interview. I just wanted to get a feel for what you guys thought about my chances at OSU.

I have been out of school now for 4 years, I've been working for non-profits and teaching science since graduation, I will have my masters in educational administration in may, and I was waitlisted and then accepted the summer after my senior year of college (already committed to the non-profit I worked for so I couldn't accept). I'm now reapplying and here are my stats:

sGPA: 3.31
cGPA: 3.52
First MCAT in 2008: 25
Most recent MCAT (this summer): 32

Let me know what you think.

Nice jump in MCAT lol. Stats look fine, obviously they are since you were accepted before. I'm not sure how they look at turning down a prior acceptance, but I doubt they count off for it if you had your reasons. I'd call and ask, if anything just to touch base with them.

Ahhhhh this wait is unbearable, still can't believe we haven't heard anything!

Nothing here . The last group that received calls were notified about their acceptance at around 230 pm based on previous posts on this forum. So maybe we will hear something in a hour.

Are you all still waiting to hear from October interviews?

That's nuts, I wonder what's causing the delay. Two weeks is about the normal response time, iirc.

Congratulations! You must be so relieved.

Thank you! It is certainly a relief! I'm sure others will be receiving calls soon.

For those interested, I interviewed in the Oct. 30th - Nov. 1st pool.

In-state
29 MCAT
3.95 GPA

Waitlisted, same pool. I just called and asked.

Congrats, swokDR13!

N22, I know that's not what you wanted to hear after waiting so long. About half the class comes from the waitlist though, and you're on it early so there's still a good chance of receiving that call. Just keep on updating your app with all your grades and ECs and keep in touch with the admissions people.

Accepted! I got the call about an hour ago.

What a good life.

Thank you so much for the encouragement and advice, I'll definitely keep them updated. Another wait begins!

I didn't get called-interviewed nov 1 so I'm pretty bummed. I'll call tomorrow though and see if I was waitlisted or what.

Interviewed on the 15th. No call. So it sounds like I got waitlisted...again. The fun continues.

Also interviewed on the 15th, no call as of yet.

Stockingchick, Light Squared Bishop, Electric Dance Music....some of these screen names lol

Has anyone received a letter that states they have been put on the waiting list, or do most people just call the admission offices?

You can call Sarah in the admissions office to find out. Also, Sarah said that letters saying accept/wait list/reject were mailed out yesterday. So depending on the weather, we will probably get them by the end of this week or beginning of next week.

That was for the Nov. 14-15 interview group.

Can someone give me an idea of how long it took to get an ii after the secondary was completed?

It's hard to say. Last year, I got a request 4-5 months after my application was complete. This year about, a week or two. But I had some hiccups with AACOMAS so AACOMAS didn't send my info until mid October.

Is it rolling admissions? Or based on other factors? Also, how full (approx) are they?

Accepted today! Instate, interviewed November 21, 3.79 and 32

What's the avg MCAT score here? I've seen such a huge range of scores: mid 20's to 30+

Rolling admissions. Good luck getting any info on how 'full' the class is, they won't tell you. It's just as well, you can't tell at this point since many with multiple acceptances choose to go elsewhere. There are still plenty of spots left.

It took about 6 days for them to call me, which I thought was crazy fast. Completed file 10/31, interview invite 11/6, interviewed 11/15

It will probably be higher than a 26 this year. I'm thinking in the 27-28 range.

My wife got in as well, nov 15 group
3.4/3.4/26

I think 26 is like the norm for instate, for out of state, 30+ is the norm since it only have limited spots.

Any advice on what to do while on the waiting list to better my application? Or chances for getting accepted? In state, 3.7/3.5/27.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm pretty sure I'm waitlisted with 3.76/3.74/27, though I don't know for certain yet since I haven't gotten it in the mail. But just do some more volunteering! I know I'm going to. That's really all you can do unless you want to retake the MCAT.

Also, your chances are a lot better compared to most schools. Because they do rolling admissions, they have to waitlist more people. I'm just hoping I'm waitlisted at this point.

Keep volunteering, shadowing, and all that good stuff and keep the admissions office updated. Send in updated transcripts and MCAT scores, if applicable.
Spending Christmas volunteering at an orphanage in Ethiopia and a glowing letter of recommendation from Burns Hargis should really seal the deal.
