I took pharmacology but I would melt under that pressure. I might even laugh and then say that "if you don't use it, you lose it"

For those of you interviewing soon, check the OSU interview feedback page and prepare for as many questions on there as you can. The 5 drugs question isnt a joke, I got it. You will be able to see who is interviewing you beforehand so if you see Pharmacology or PhD next to one of your interviewer's name, there's a little hint right there. I was also asked name a disease caused by a bacteria, virus, and fungus. Other than that the only other unexpected question I heard of was "teach me something" and was asked to go to the whiteboard in the room. I interviewed in the last group of the day and all the M1 and M2 students came in and told us what to expect beforehand so I wouldn't be worried at all. Everyone there wants everyone to succeed, it is an awesome environment.

Other than those questions, everything is very very laid back and it felt like the interviewers were talking to each other more than me at times. Relax, be yourself, and enjoy getting to know your interviewers. I think this interview was the best one I've had to date so don't stress over it!

anyone know if OSU will look at your application/consider you for an interview before your letter of recommendation from an osteopath physician has been submitted?

No, your file must be fully complete (including DO letter) to be considered for an interview. However, OSU is typically very quick to review your application once your file is complete.

They really don't care if you know pharmacology, it's all about how you react. Stay calm and just talk something out. The pharm teachers that ask those questions are by far some of our coolest professors it isn't meant to be about knowledge just seeing your personality.

any news on IIs? Been silent for me and I am IS with higher stats than some of those who were accepted this year. Not saying that means I should get an II automatically, but I figured I'd hear SOMETHING from my state school that takes 85-90% IS applicants :/

OSU tends to look at the whole application vs just mcat & gpa for II. If you had some worthwhile ECs with solid stats and no major red flags (cheating/ convictions) then I would call to make sure they have everything they need. Also check your status on the applicant portal.

You most likely will not hear anything until they decide to give you an II. also keep in mind there is still plentyyyy of time in the cycle for OSU

There is a section to upload it into the portal. Select the "status" tab and then on the left hand side, select "upload files".
 
Hey can anybody comment if there is contact with standardized patients? If so, does that start during 1st year? Also, are any of the tests written with board style questions? Thanks a bunch!!

One of the pathology professor writes pretty good questions, all the rest are hit and miss and mostly first order. It sucks but what can you do. You have standardized patients second semester first year when you start clinical skills.
 
Yeah the path questions (majority of any given exam) are usually pretty decent. The clinical questions are all over the place because we have 3-4 different clinicians lecture for an exam. IMO, the pharm questions are actually very close to board style. Micro is pretty decent too but I don't think that subject gets enough attention for how heavy it is on step 1.

This is just for systems courses. BMF exams are another thing entirely.

I have a LOR from a highly regarded LOR from here and he is friends with one of the ADCOMs - needless to say, don't put your eggs in one basket, they are fair at this school and they have been around since the early 70's so I am assuming they have a TON of graduates who write LORs for their applicants. OSU also has their own residency training hospital, which is the biggest DO training hospital in the nation, so I bet the retention rate is high - especially since it is located in Tulsa, my home city, and it is not too big and not too small. I love it. Good luck, buddy!

I updated mine by sending an email to admissions. They simply said, "thank you and we will add this to your file." There might be a better way of doing it, but that worked for me. Does anyone know of upcoming interview dates? I have been complete for two months now and I have not heard front he school.

I know they are having an interview day tomorrow (the 12th).

There are approximately five more interview dates for the cycle.

Maybe? I don't know that they have a certain number of OOS interviews to give. Probably just whatever app looks best at the time.

For those who got accepted today, did you guys get an email yet?
 
I believe an email comes shortly after the phone call. I think I will be withdrawing my acceptance this week. Have to consider a couple things.

According to the admin of the page you have to pay your acceptance fee and accept the offer first. Then you'll receive an email invite to the page.

In state, 499 MCAT, 3.5 undergrad GPA, 3.8 graduate GPA, 4 publications (+1 more under review)

What about you?

I have heard they pull from the wait list a lot so I think we will make it in!!! 🙂

In state, 499 MCAT, 3.95 gpa, 1 publication under review. I really hope that is true!! Good luck!!
 
Hey friends!

I just found this page and I'm very excited to keep in touch with you as I go through this admissions journey! I just received a call for my interview today and I'm thrilled and nervous at the same time. I have a few questions. I was late to apply, and OSU only received my completed application less than a month ago. My science GPA is a 3.79 and my overall is a 3.89 (they'll update soon to include a 4.0 from last semester) with a 500 on the MCAT. I know receiving an interview is said to be half the battle, but I haven't heard of anyone who has not received an interview. How many interviews does the school generally give out in an application cycle? Also, I am a three-year graduate, which means I haven't had as much of an opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience (I have plenty of observational shadowing). Will graduating early hurt my chances?

Do you all have any tips for the interview? I did published research at OSU prior to beginning my undergrad and had an opportunity to work under one of the faculty members and interact with the students. I'm 100% sure the community atmosphere at OSU is where I belong, and I'd love to hear what advice you all have from your own experiences!

Look on the interview feedback page, you will notice some trends in questions they ask. Be prepared with a unique, concise, and confident answer. They seem to consistently asks you to "teach them something" I feel my answer to this question gave the interview a whole new "feel" and I really think it is what helped to get me in. Be confident, be prepared, and be prepared to ask thoughtful questions. You got this.

I had similar stats and I was admitted back in November. I have a lot of research experience with a publication as well. You will be more than fine in my opinion.

I think you have a good shot. I have the same gpa as you with a higher MCAT. I also graduated in three years.

Our school seems to like people from Utah. There is a guy in my class from Utah and I know several people in residency from BYU
