Persistence of Minecraft WW Game Thread

Attempt at WW-related content: On the intro post on the signup thread, Steve dies, and his watch reads 04:12. But on the game thread, after the death and before the desk-smash, the watch shows 04:08. So time is running backwards, or possibly unpredictably. Minecraft modded to run Dali's physics engine?

I know a lot about Minecraft but not a lot about Dali so this should be interesting.
At first glance I thought it was maybe a countdown timer (hours:minutes). But i see now in both writeups it says "the time" so probably not.

Minecraft wolves are neutral / non-hostile unless attacked, and can easily be converted to allies (dogs) by giving them bones. (This is trivia, unrelated to my current working theory of game mechanics, but I thought I'd put it out there in case it was useful to anyone else.)

My content laden posts and lynch votes are going to have to wait until tomorrow afternoon, most likely. I need to read up on Minecraft. I get the basics, but I haven't played it myself. Just bought a lot of themed merchandise for the children of my extended circle of family and friends. There are lots of critters in the game, from what I've seen in the toy aisle.

Minecraft hostiles in the Overworld: zombies, skeletons, creepers would be common. Witches and endermen are less common and more dangerous. Slimes and silverfish are technically hostile, but I'd guess unlikely. Zombie villager would be my guess for a convert; they can also be healed / converted back to regular villagers. Spiders are hostile at night and neutral during the day (that could be a cool mechanic). Guardians / Elder guardians are underwater hostile things.

This is what I meant above....you couldn't "convert back" someone who'd already joined a wolf pack since they'd then know who all the wolves were.

Bunch of lone wolves would make sense in Minecraft, because hostile mobs don't coordinate, other than in not attacking each other. Although, now that I think of it, Minecraft villagers don't really coordinate (or they would not keep walking in and out of the door!). It's Steve who can coordinate with other Steves.

Not sure if we're wandering too far down the Minecraft path, without taking the Dali angle into account.

I have the game sitting in a folder on my laptop, but I've only actually sat down and played it once I think...it was with friends on a server one of them made. I (and everyone else besides the server starter) had absolutely no idea what we were doing when it came to crafting and had to be walked through every step But she made a house with rooms for everyone, mine had a pet cat and chicken! Wish it was already my weekend so I could play without staying up to ungodly hours...

Didn't Trilt say not to worry about role names and descriptions for who could be wolves and to rely more on actions?

Unless they came back with a firm post restriction regarding what they know, and/or a lynch restriction of some kind. There is always a way to make a crazy mechanic work.

Eh, I was trying to find some comment that could seem somewhat content-oriented. No one had mentioned anything about Trilt's advice yet, and I thought it was fair enough to point out that from my end that advice was panning out.

I saw it more as she was saying that her role/name wasn't an exact representation of her affiliation. If she were a wolf, I don't think she would have blatantly brought attention to herself like that.

Yeah, I don't really agree with that read. And it kind of contradicts itself, since you're now assuming all the villagers would have similarly indecipherable roles.

Actually, my initial assumption was that *everyone* had an undecipherable role (consistent with Trilt's comment to not get hung up on them for finding wolves, but based on more than just that). So I'm surprised that there are now two people (you and Zen) who maybe don't have undecipherable roles.

And BBC may be telling the truth, or it may be a set up. Either way it set up this wonderful chain reaction of responses that gives insight into other players and their responses to their roles... which is helpful, and if BBC is meta gaming it, possibly the whole point.

I think all of that is going to be a giant moot point. Interesting info, but absolutely worthless as far as game strategy goes.

I have this distinct feeling that roles were handed out to everyone and wolf/villager alignment was handed out randomly after that fact. Meaning that rather benign sounding role names or who you would expect to be the "good guys" can and may be wolves and those that you might suspect to be the "bad guys" can and may be villagers. This makes a lot of sense given Trilt's above comment that I quoted.

I agree with almost all of this, but I doubt affiliation was randomly assigned. Trilt puts a lot of effort into theme-ing and balancing, so I'd guess she had roles/abilities allocated to each side at the start.

But yeah, I'm sure there will be plenty of sketchy sounding village and friendly sounding wolves.

Considering how much she emphasized in both the sign up thread and this one that theme isn't going to matter and to not focus on roles, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. Randomly assigning alignment does happen and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it was the case for this game.

100% true thought.... based on the post I already quoted and this one as well by Trilt in the sign up thread:

It will very much hurt people if they depend too much on roles/themes in this game in particular. It is a mish-mash held together with a different story. I know I always say people don't need to know the theme, but truly... in this one it will mostly just help you get jokes.

If you rely on roles and typical affiliation this game, it is going to hurt you.... that is coming straight from the mod god's mouth. Can't even make it up.

Steve is the character you play. More recently, you've been able to play with a face other than the standard Steve face (my avatar is Alex, the other stock character). He's killed by something in the game (hostile mob / monster, lava, falling off a cliff, starvation, drowning - there are lots of dumb ways to die). Upset young man is the player.

I think it doesn't matter, for whatever that's worth. I've contributed a bunch to the Minecraft angle, because I know something about Minecraft, but I don't personally think that the WW wolves are either Minecraft wolves or Minecraft hostile mobs. If I knew anything about the enemies of Salvador Dali, I'd probably be talking about them!

I've studied Spanish and its history, including the Spanish Civil War and the movement led by the Generation of '27, involving Dali and Garcia Lorca. They had a very complex and passionate relationship and the psychology of Dali is very interesting. Lorca being homosexual was likely part of the motive behind his execution by the Nationalist forces. All of this is somewhat of a backdrop in the movie, which I found compelling for its history, emotion, politics, and art.

I happen to like Robert Pattinson as an actor, I think he does a great job playing Dali in this film. If you're a fan of Dali I think a look at this biopic can enrich appreciation of his art.
