Does anyone remember the status of EMRs at these programs:

Jefferson, Temple, Tufts

I remember they were all "about to get" EMRs but can't remember the timing

UIC, Rush, Loyola I think already had them, right?

For Jeff's sake: EPIC coming "Early 2016." So for 1-1.5 years its paper charts and the in-house EMR.

In house EMR isn't terrible: orders, labs, consults, signout, and vitals. You get used to writing a "form" for the paper chart pretty quick. They updated the UI of the EMR recently and the progress notes for the day have meds and vitals prefilled.

Anyone care to comment on Tufts? Someone above commented on their current lack of EMR but anything else regarding the program? They don't post their year by year fellowship list and am not sure if this is a red flag or not?

Seems like 99% of people on SDN hate them

This might have been asked before, but any opinion on the SUNY residency programs (in terms of one being better than the other or offering more in terms of teaching/fellowship opportunities/reputation)
Downstate vs. buffalo vs stony brook vs. upstate

Probably Stony Brook>Buffalo>Upstate/Downstate. Buffalo has exposure at three different hospitals but it's a little spread out. They keep a not so small portion of their residents in-house for fellowship. Location might make you feel a little under the weather (and quite literally, in winter).

Info on Buffalo also...Schedule system (X+Y?), call...etc. Work environment, ancillary staff? Fellowship match rates?

What did they say when you asked that question on interview day?

I actually don't remember since I had it in September and was my first interview and didn't even know what x+y was...and was too nervous to even pay attention. Don't know where my notes went and their package/website doesn't mention any of that.

Is the Cardiology match list for Jefferson not as strong as their other match lists or is that just me?

Long time lurker, first time poster. I know residencies cannot legally tell you where they are ranking you, but I also know certain programs will send a personalized email/note to their top candidates. Does anybody know which program(s) do this?

They can legally volunteer any information they want actually, including where they are ranking you if they so choose to tell you.

And you should assume that it's either a harmless fib or a total fabrication if they do.

the only thing not allowed under ACGME rules (not "legally") is a quid pro quo situation where they tell you they'll rank you highly if you rank them highly

Buffalo is 4+1, fellowship match is about half in house/half other mid tier universities, ancillary staff is decent but not exceptional.

Does anyone have experience with University of Arizona IM program whether it be a rotation/interview/residency?

I wanted to ask if anyone knows when intern year start at OSU internal medicine, is it JULY 1st, or week july for orientation

I've rotated there and interviewed. It's a good academic program, but they are going through some transition with the Banner merger, which UA might feel the change more than Banner in Phoenix. As far as the residency goes, they match well into specialties and have a lot at UA. They seemed weak on primary care, and their schedule in the third/second year seemed light on electives. PM me if you have any specific questions.

I think they start their early to mid June. I know their first week on service is the last week of June.

Would anyone be able to comment on the reputation of Scripps Green in regards to getting a job or a fellowship in the san diego/ southern california area?

I am curious about any input that people have into community programs in the pacific northwest. Specifically:

Virginia Mason
Providence Portland
Providence St Vincent
Legacy Emmanuel
Spokane Teaching Hospital
UW: Boise

I'm a fairly competitive applicant, grew up in Portland, med school in the Southeast and trying to get home. My career goals are Infectious Disease Fellowship, preferably also in the pacific northwest. Any of those stand out as particularly good or bad at achieving that goal?

If you're really a competitive applicant, I'm not sure why you're applying to most of them. I'd probably apply to PPMC, VM and Legacy, in addition to UW and OHSU.

Interviewed at VM, PPMC, PSV and Legacy. I enjoyed all of them. If you are interested in ID PPMC is a good place to be. VM was near the top of my rank list for many reasons, but mainly they are very well known for QI/Systems improvement. Make sure your read up on the VM production system prior to interviewing. PSV is a great community hospital for cardiology. Legacy's strong point is in critical care medicine. You can't beat Seattle and Portland!

Has anyone received a interview date confirmation from UW-Madison? Wondering whether I should email again. Earlier this week, I had an experience with a school that totally forgot about my email and my prefered dates got booked. So, I'm feeling a little paranoid now. Thank you!

Would definitely email them again. I received confirmation within a day.

Cedars Sinai vs. UCI - which interview should I cancel? Will be going for a pulm/CC fellowship after residency, looking for a program with good national reputation

University of Texas at Austin Dell school of medicine internal medicine. Does anyone know anything about this program? I looked all over the forums for information but i couldn't find anything.

It's essentially a community program newly christened as a Uni program. Nothing wrong with that mind you, just the facts.

Thank you.

I interviewed there last year when it was apart of UTSW. Austin is great. Program seemed pretty good and I believe they had a solid fellowship match list. The brand new hospital Dell built for them or were in process of building when I interviewed should be pretty sweet.

Hi all, I did a search but I'm still between 2 programs to choose to interview with- carolinas med program vs. greenville/USC. both are small community programs and would be safeties for me. i have no geographical preference. there is room in my schedule for only 1 of them or I could cancel both. thoughts?

Among the following programs, which 2 should I cut from my list. I'm interested in pursuing cardio down the line, so I will be factoring fellowship placement into my decision. General thoughts on these programs and why you think they should be cut are appreciated:
1. U Maryland
2. George Washington
3. Georgetown
4. Vanderbilt
5. UCLA
6. University of Washington
7. Mayo Clinic
8. Emory
9. Yale
10. Icahn
11. Cornell
12. Northwestern

I am very happy with this list, but I want to limit my travel expenses, and I am finding it hard to cut any, since they all seem to have their strengths. Your help is appreciated.

Pick 2 programs in the DC area to ditch and call it good. Of course, that does nothing for your travel expenses, but if you're going to cheap out here, you deserve what you get.

I would also cut GW and Georgetown if you have to but our Dean tells us 12 is the magic number to match.

THANKS! I actually have 2 more but I wouldn't consider cutting them, so cutting from the above list would leave me with 12 (the "magic number"). I'm curious to know why it is you all suggest to lose the DC programs. I've noticed people on the forum generally aren't impressed by gtown and gw but haven't figured out why.

I concur. As for the why: they're just not as good as the rest of the programs on your list. They also pay very poorly in an expensive city if I remember correctly. Unless you have an interview at JHU that you can match up with it or a compelling reason to be in that region you can also put UMD on the chopping block if/when you get more interviews.

I have noticed that I have been receiving interviews from academic places (10 interviews so far) but have yet to receive invites from any of the community programs on my list (3 of them). Admittedly, these places are safeties, which is why I am surprised. Just curious if there was any reason that this might be the case or if others had had similar experiences.

This gets asked every year and the answer is always the same.
They KNOW that you consider them a safety.
They know you're going to get "better" interviews.
They know that you'll either cancel or not rank them highly/at all.
They're not going to waste their time on you.

After getting an invite for the Spokane IM program, I did some reading online and found some reports about it being a malignant residency program that fires a resident a year, etc. Can anyone comment on the accuracy of this?
