Applying here. Good luck everyone! 🙂

Sounds like a cool place, anyone that can answer questions?

I'll be applying her as well.
3.7 cGPA, 3.6 sGPA, 26 MCAT
OH resident

Yup, I'll be applying here as well. So far my top three choices are PCOM, UMDNJ, and NYCOM

Hello everyone:

I would like to know what are my chances of getting in with the following?

Degree in Psychology (Honors) and Biology
cGPA 3.62 sGPA 3.50 MCAT 24
Strong ECs (publication, research and shadowing for over 2 years, work experience, community service, leadership)

Thanks and please no mean comments!

NJ resident, URM, 3.4 cGPA, 3.2 sGPA, strong ECs, healthcare experience, awaiting MCAT

I'm guessing not worth it for me to apply?

3.68c/3.64s/25

Illinois resident

Chances would be low, honestly. While the GPAs are decent, the MCAT is 2-3 points below their average, and it's a state school, which means they have strong preference towards NJ residents. Maybe if you have some superb ECs it could help.

Could you work your magic on me?

I am from UT, no ties to NJ. My GPAs arent that great cGPA 3.55 sGPA 3.37, my MCAT is decent 31M, and I have good EC. I love this school, and its in my top three, but I am wondering as well if it's worth it to apply here.

I will be attending here this Fall. I can also any questions you guys may have.

Just a basic overview that may help some of you:

This school is now under the Rowan University system and I believe the official name is Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM). The school is a state school that is heavily invested in new jersey students, so there is a heavy bias for kids that are in-state or have strong ties to the state. As such, instate students also get reduced tuition rates. Still, if you are a strong applicant who really enjoys the school you should apply.

From what I was told during the interview process, the school as a ranking system directly correlated to your MCAT score and gpas. If you get an early interview and meet a certain thresholds with these numbers (and don't completely bomb your interview) you should be fine: apply as early as possible! I also believe they interview New Jersey residents first.

I obviously had a great impression of this school and that's why I chose to attend. They do have some smaller scholarships based on your academic merit that they had out to those that qualify after you have been accepted.

If you have any specific questions feel free to PM or leave them here!

Goodluck!

Rising Second Year at SOM, feel free to PM with questions

anyone know when we get secondaries?

Secondaries should be available on the website. You don't have to wait for admissions to email you the app. Once you submit the secondary call them and confirm they've received all your documents.

Doesn't look like it is up yet.

Is it true that you can apply for in-state status after year 1? Is this commonly granted?

It has been grandfathered in for c/o 2017, who start in Aug. we haven't been told if obtaining NJ residency will continue for any subsequent SOM classes. Rowan's current policy is that your residency status at enrollment stays the same thorough out your degree program. So if you start OOS, you remain so even if you move to NJ and establish NJ residency.

I wonder if anyone can tell me what is my chance of getting a shot in to this school with my stats:
Degree in Biology (high honors)
cGPA 3.86 sGPA 3.83 MCAT 22 (V:6, P:9, B:7).
NJ resident.
about 150 hours (in the ER), 100 hours ( tutor volunteers), more than a years doing research, and some more volunteer in community services

Thank you very much,

Thank you very much,

MCAT wayyy too low. Average for this incoming class is at least 28 as of now. You gotta get that up there. GPA is great though.

I'd recommend a retake on the MCAT, it'll be really tough with a 22. All your other stuff is really solid, you'd just need to bring that MCAT up by around 4 points.

Just checking in. I'll be applying here this cycle, it's literally within walking distance of my house! 3.6 and 31, I've got my fingers crossed because this school looks great. Good luck everyone!

Apply Early Decision!

Once they see your app is complete, they're going to email you the secondary.

hi guys,

just wondering what my chances would be at this school. cGPA 3.1 (health issues during first 2 years of college), sGPA 3.6 (with some retakes), 23 MCAT (first take) 27 MCAT (retake): 8,9,10 (PS,VB,BS). i have volunteered at a hospital, shadowed a DO, tutored chemistry and biology at my undergrad institution for over 3 years, student mentor for incoming science majors w/ the Student Development Department, volunteered in soup kitchens feeding the homeless to name a few ECs.

Are you from NJ?

Every time I see this thread bolded at the top of the page, I get a slight tinge of paranoia that the secondary came out because i have not received one yet.

hey guys, I was looking at the course requirements for the school online, it says that one of ur english must be taken from the english department. I took my english courses from the medieval studies department, does that mean that I am not eligible to apply here?

Call admissions and ask. You should be fine.

Hey guys, any input on my chances???
I posted above 😀

Hey guys,

SJ Resident here, Rutgers U
Sci/Cum:3.65, 26 MCAT
non-URM

I predict you have a chance of getting an interview since you are a state resident. Your GPA is at the average reported cGPA for this upcoming class, but the MCAT is at least 2 points lower. This may land you a spot on the waitlist. But, it may not! I was put on the WL and recently taken off. The reason I was told I was on the WL was because "this year was just really competitive, and your cGPA is lower than their average." Class of 2017 is reported to have an average MCAT of 28.35, with a 9.45 in each sub-section.

So, if there's any way to bump that MCAT up, do it to solidify your chances.

To those who applied to the school before, did you guys write two separate essays for the secondary or one essay answering both questions??? Which one does the admission's office prefer?

Thanks!

I wrote one essay on one page answering both questions.

One essay which answers both questions.

Since a number of ppl have asked for my advice and that more students will be seeking advice/feedback, feel free to PM questions you may have. I am a first year and am more than willing to help out. Good luck guys!

Were secondaries sent out already?
I just got Rowan secondary. Guess folks are working in the 4th!

Edit: it's a physical secondary that you must print and mail to the school.

Here are the essay prompts:

1. Explain the process by which you decided that osteopathic medicine was right for you?

2. How does the osteopathic profession fit into your professional goals and values?

is the admissions office to send LORs to the same address given on the secondary application to mail the secondary to?

I haven't been verified yet but can anyone tell me how much of a shot i have at this school?

3.6 GPA/ 30 MCAT (12/12/6)

my verbal score sucks so im worried about being screened out.. im retaking in August to get a better score but will this keep me out of this school?

your stats are similar to mine with a 6 in VR.

I got a secondary and I can let you know what happens.

Thanks, i haven't been verified yet so im guessing thats why i haven't received a secondary. I'll keep you posted too

RowanSOM does not screen out. Everyone will receive a secondary once their primary app is verified.

can you use stuff from your PS to answer the essay prompt? i had a lot in my PS in the first place.
