So I'm waitlisted here and thought it would be cool if we started a support group to share info and help each other through this process.

So, here is a preliminary list (please add yourselves, everyone)

oops- my bad- I assumed you were referring to people on the HPA list only, since it is nearly impossible to get off of the regular (Hold by Committee) waitlist at Upstate.

So, everyone I put on the list, as far as I know, is HPA.

It seems the non HPA waitlist is pretty much a reject 🙁
The dean made it pretty clear that they haven't accepted anybody from that list in years.

I have an exam on wednesday and I am checking SDN. 😀

I emailed Jennifer Walsh about my waitlist rank and I got something along the lines of, "If you do not hear by June please contact us". So she didn't tell me anything. Unless she means I'm in a good place and if I do not hear by June then the Waitlist has absolutely no movement. I mean she did use an exclamation mark at the end of the email.. very hopeful..

One could only speculate. 🙂

When did you send this email? They did not give me any information about if I was in a good or bad position when I emailed in early March. 🙁

January. Don't read too much into it. Stay positive, after all, it is a waitlist and who knows how this will all work out.

Hey guys,

I'm also on the HPA at Upstate. Really liked the school.


Emailed them not too long ago and got a response of 'too early to tell, if you don't hear from us by July contact us....' so I'm hoping that is just the standard canned response they are giving out.

But here's hoping, I know a few people on the HPA who will not be attending, haha and by few I mean two, so at least there's 2 potential slots out there!

The waitlist is constantly changing even as interviewing continues. We'll know soon enough. Anyone else tried contacting recently?

Indeed it is. I think the first two weeks after May 15th will be when everyone gets a pretty good idea of how the list is moving.

yeah...as much as I loved Upstate I have decided to withdraw my spot. I always hate to say "no thanks" just b/c I feel honored to have been offered a spot; however, I do not want to delay the joy another applicant may be hoping to feel when he/she is accepted.

So I feel bad b/c I do like Upstate, but I know my decision will benefit someone else.

I'm assuming that most movement occurs shortly before or after the May 15th deadline.

I had a friend that made it in late July.

hey sup guys, just wanted to let u know that you can get pulled off the HPA list at any time, i was put on the HPA list on october 15 and accepted December 9th, so just be patient. Hope to see you ALL at upstate in the fall.

Aw geez, more anxiety, just what I need. What changes can they possibly be making so late in the game to something they've been doing the same way for so long?? Why the sudden necessity? Albeit it would be nice to get some closure to this waitlist process before May 15th, I'd be very interested to know what these proposed "changes" are. Whatever it is, we'll probably know very soon, since we have about a month until D-Day (5/15).

Anyone care to initiate contact with the good folks at Upstate to find out a little more about the proposed changes? It's only fair they let us know more details, since it directly impacts us.

I'm not sure if they'd tell us no more than what I was able to get out. I guess the reason y they were reluctant to tell me my position on the HPA was b/c they were making these "changes" 😉 and it was hard to make predictions based on last yr's numbers. Well, let the D-day count down begin...

Are people doing anything to show continued interest in Upstate? I've had people telling me, for example, that I should call every few days just to show my interest. Good or bad idea? I plan on at least e-mailing a few times... I do have an acceptance elsewhere that I'm excited about, but I wouldn't pass on Upstate if given the chance!!

Sadly, I don't think calling every few days will be very helpful. My understanding is that once we have gone to committee and have been reviewed and placed/ranked on the HPA list, we will not be reviewed again. I think that (unfortunately) all we can do is wait at this point.

However, you may want to call now and find out what your chances are of getting in-- the admissions office will not tell you where you are on the list but they can give you some sense of whether or not you will be waiting for a long time and if they have gotten to your place on the list in recent years. Also, for anyone who has the courage, feel free to ask what the supposed "changes" are to the process this year!!🙂

Hopefully a lot of people who are not interested in attending Upstate will begin to withdraw soon...so those of us suffering on this list will have a chance to be accepted!

Thanks for the info... When I initially got waitlisted back in December, I found out via phone call (it was right before the holidays, and I didn't want to wait for 2 weeks while they were on vacation or whatever so I just kept calling). The admissions person told me I was high enough that they usually get to that spot every year. Now, I think I saw someone else post a similar comment, so I'm wondering whether they spout that off to every HPA person, or if there's any legitimacy to it.

Also I dropped them an e-mail today, and got the standard "nothing til after 5/15" line, and they wouldn't divulge anything at all about my position on the list.

Waiting game continues!

I guess it's probably not a big deal for in-staters but $40,000/yr might scare away some OOS

Yeah, my bet would be that a few more out-of-staters than usual will be scared off, and accept better financial terms elsewhere (like their own in-state med schools).

By the same token, though, it seems pretty plausible to me that NY-staters will be swayed by Upstate's in-state tuition in light of the, er, economic meltdown, and will thus be more likely to turn down private schools.

So yeah, I guess it's kinda hard to say!
