I'm waitlisted here and thought it would be cool if we started a support group to share info and help each other through this process like people did last year.

Wish all the waitlisters good luck! :xf::xf:

Hey,

So just received the email from Upstate. I'm in their High Priority Alternate List... ugh.

Anyhow, the email seemed to imply that it won't be until May that the WL will see some movement? Anyone have any info to share?

P.S. by the way, which campus preference did you indicate, Newher?

HPA. no surprise though considering how late in the application cycle my interview was.

Hey gbu! yeah, it sucks to be waitlisted, but at least we're on the good one. All we can do is be optimistic... What clinical campus did you choose, and when did you interview?

P.S. I just realized I've not mentioned my clinical campus choice even though I've been asking both of you about yours. I indicated a preference for Syracuse although I'd be willing to take Binghampton.

i interviewed the last week of feb and picked the binghamton campus. so it seems like we won't be hearing anything from them for at least another 2/3 months...

That's what the letter implies... Last year they didn't start pulling people off until after the May 15 deadline, too, so I guess that is the most likely possibility.

Is Upstate your top choice?

Binghamton

I searched last year waitlist thread. The movement started May 26.

Right, and the email says they'll only discuss movement in the list "sometime in May." However, they seem to change things from year to year.

It's a bit weird, though... from correspondence with the admissions office, I know that the waitlist is already ranked. So basically, after they make the last decision on the last interviewee, and those already accepted start dropping out, the waitlist should start moving. It sounds strange that this should be all the way until May.

Does anyone know when their interview season is over?

Last time I looked at the calendar, March 10th was the last date you could choose for an interview.

Thanks lmsTJ.

Unfortunately, that doesn't clear up things. If their last interview is on March 10, then they'd be done reviewing applications by the first week of April... and I'm pretty sure people are withdrawing their acceptances at a more or less steady rate.

Damn, god knows what they are up to...

Have you heard a decision from them already lmsTJ?

I haven't heard anything yet, but I did want to keep up with this thread. I just submitted my campus selection form last Thursday, so if the theory in the Application Thread is correct, my file hasn't been looked at yet. Maybe I'll go to committee this week or next.

Where are all the other waitlisters? Come out from the shadows and support your fellow brethren!!

hey guys

just want to wish you luck on the waitlist
I was in your position last year and if you had a late interview I was in your position too!
If you have any questions just holler (PM or otherwise).

Well, good luck to you, then! Maybe you won't have to join us in this thread.

We know you are out there, waitlisters! Join us.

Funky, thanks for your offer. How are you liking Upstate so far?

I would say that Upstate is challenging. I'm sure you would probably have expected that because it is med school after all. The people there are really nice and talented and the faculty is helpful when you seek out their help. Despite all the complaining I might do, overall it's a good experience so far.

Was it difficult to move out there after being accepted relatively late (even though you were one of the first to come off the HPA, right?)? Did you have problems with housing, etc?

I didn't think it was too bad. I got lucky and found a 3rd year who lives in jefferson who needed a roommate so it worked out. But there were a lot of people in the facebook group who were looking for roommates so I thought I had a lot of choices so don't worry! I knew a guy who didn't have a place until midway through the first week because he got in the week before orientation.

Just wanted to say Hi to all waitlisters here:hello:

so i heard that over 60% of applicants from this list get accepted in the past....keep our fingers crossed
ahhhhh this wait is driving me crazyyyyyyyyy

Where did you hear this? was it in the Upstate application threat?
Just wondering, because that figure, and the thought process involved in it sounded like total and utter speculation... But yeah, I hope it's some number big like that!

I hate this waiting too...

Does anyone have plans on starting work on reapplication?

I also heard the same number - 60%. Yeah, I'm planning to reapply. But don't know if it makes sense to reapply this year, because by June/July it is impossible to show much of improvement in your application. So, I'm thinking that I'll work for a year and reapply next June. What about you?

yeah, planning to reapply, too. I think I'll do something big, like going for an SMP next year. There are some threads about going that path somewhere.

You don't have to show improvement you have accomplished before your application exclusively. you can also include ongoing improvement. Obviously that is somewhat of a gamble, but it seems to work out, specially when it is something big like doing an SMP. Then you just keep updating them with your grades, the directors of the program send letters of support, etc.

I am choosing this path because I've been out of school for a while, and I'm wondering if it was my grades that sabotaged an outright acceptance. I also can't stand working for another year. I want to go back to school. The other reason I don't plan on waiting is that I'm afraid my MCAT might expire if I wait too long, and that my recommenders might forget about me in the mean while. Not that they will forget who I am, but they'll just forget details and end up writing a weaker letter...

Yeah I understand. I hav edifferent situation. I'm a senior in undergrad right now. My grades are not bad, so my pre-med advisor told me that I better work and do clinical volunteering a lot. He said that going to MP is a risk of lowering GPA and extra expence for me. So........ I don't know... May be I'll apply to some DO schools this coming cycle...

But wait!!!! We forgot that we WILL GET INTO SUNY UPSTATE!!!!🙂🙂

If they will start calling people on 05/15 then we have 54 days left :xf::xf::xf:

That's right! Just being super cautious and working on plan B!
Is this the only waitlist you are hanging on to?

Yep, and I don't have any acceptances yet

Well, you're shortlisted for acceptance! Only thing to do is patiently wait...

Plus you have lots of time... You know, from personal experience, the taking time off to pad your resume has other advantages... You can work, make some money and relax a little from all the academic stress. It's not a bad option.

Yep, you're right. I'm planning to call them some time in April and ask whats my position on the waitlist - that's what people did last year.

Sounds good. Let us know if you get results.

I was planning on doing the same, but maybe a little later. Beginning May, since that is what they suggested in the letter. If you get results, though, in April, I'll definitely follow your lead.

Hi All:hello:
Got an email"REMINDER REQUIRED HEALTH FORMS FOR SUMMER ORIENTATION"
dot-blank.gif

Kind of confused - should I really fill out these forms?
Did anyone get it too? Is it a good sign? Where are all the waitlisters?

Why *shouldn't* you fill out these forms? I haven't looked at them yet, do they look hard to fill out or something?

No the forms are not hard, but you have toreturn themk 1 month prior to the registration for classes, and we're not accepted yet - IDK.

Did you receive the same email?

I got it too! I think they just want us to have them done... Since there are people that get accepted really late in the summer, I guess this is their form of warning us to have everything ready in case this happens to us.

Also, since they might accept some earlier, it is possible that those fortunate ones could have the option of taking summer anatomy. If this is the case, then it would be convenient to have the forms filled out and ready to go...

Just my thoughts. I hope it means we're near hearing good news, but it sounds to me that they just want to expedite paperwork once they accept people off the waitlist.

Hello everyone -

I just got emailed that I have entered the exciting high priority waitlist! Yay me! Now i can wait till end of may to figure out if I am in Upstate. My campus preference was Syracuse. How is everyone hanging?

did everyone on HPA get the forms ??

Hi all,
I am withdrawing early from here, and I hope that means it opens up a spot for one of you! I know what it's like being on the wait list. Good luck everyone.

Co-waitlisters,

It has been nice sharing this horrible time of incertitude with you. I have just been accepted off the waitlist by my top choice school, so I feel obligated to leave you... However, I'll be withdrawing from the HPA shortly. I hope that helps one of you get in!

Best of luck!

d.

wait i didn't get one of those 🙁 when were guys waitlisted?

Hello All. I interviewed at upstate 2/23 and received that HPA email on 3/22. At this point, I assume all of us on the HPA don't have much of a chance at Summer Anatomy. Or do we?

I'm not sure, but I think it depends on when you'll get accepted.

Waitlisters, were are you? how's everything going?
This waiting process is killing me:bang:

I'm not on the waitlist, but I'm 6 weeks post-interview with no "Decision Made" on my page. Do I dare call to see if they even remember me? Is 6 weeks normal? Might it be even longer?

*sigh* THIS is torture.

I got waitlisted whithin 3 weeks. So, may be it is a good sign that you're waiting longer - who knows. But, yes you can call them, they are very nice. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck :xf:
