Any advice would be truly helpful. I have been accepted to Sackler as well as SUNY Upstate. My question is which would you go to and why. I understand the pros and cons of both but I am just curious to what some of my peers think. Firstly, I feel that studying in Israel would not only be an experience that is unparallel but fun(even with the IMG aspect). Or would you go with the more obvious choice of SUNY Upstate.

Also would it be wrong to pass up a USMD for an Israeli School (Foreign School - IMG). Whats your take on both schools and ultimately where would you go and your personal experiences if applicable?

Thanks for your responses ahead of time!!!

I say medical school is going to be tough enough as it is, don't make it tougher on yourself. And matching in the US going to also be tough, don't make it tougher by getting your MD in another country. Israel is a very small country, and residencies will be limited there.

I think most people go to these foreign programs because either they don't get in anywhere else, or they already have some kind of connection to the country. Are you a citizen of Israel?

why would you take a chance and not make an obvious, solid choice on one of the biggest decisions of your career yet? people only go to foreign medical schools IF they can't get into US ones, for the obvious reason of how difficult the residency match is for foreign grads. coming from a family of doctors from another country, i can tell you that it's really hard to match like that for fact.

When it comes to foreign medical education, Sackler is THE school. I know people who have been rejected from Sackler and accepted to some USMD's, and someone who chose sackler over rosalind franklin, true story. Sackler grads have been very successful in the states, I don't think they can match to israeli residencies. I was accepted to Sackler and a USMD and I chose the US school because, if God forbid, something happened to my grandmother, I wouldn't be able to just hop on the next flight home. But, I think in a different situation I would totally have gone to Sackler and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Choose wisely, but you will have the chance to be successful no matter where you go if you work hard. Good luck!

If you want to do your postgraduate training and work in the USA, then any American MD school >>> any international school, including Sackler.

ditto this, definitely go to suny upstate if you want to practice in the US

there are several people at our school (i'm a current 4th year at sackler) that chose sackler over a US Med school acceptance, myself included. There are several pros and cons to doing so. If you know you want a highly competitive residency, and you don't have solid connections, stay in the states. If its anything mildly competitive and below, you have a great shot. If you want to have a great time going to med school, living in a beautiful country with lots of traveling experience to be had, pick Sackler. Good luck

Go to the US school if you want to come back and do residency here.

This is incorrect. You CAN'T match in other countries coming from Sackler and 100% of Sackler graduates do residency in the US. However, you will probably have an easier time getting a COMPETITIVE residency coming from SUNY. People in pre-allo may not know about Sackler, I suggest you post in int'l.

100% of Sackler grads match? Fascinating. How big is the class, btw?
