***The Official Midwestern-Illinois Class of 2024 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

If you're planning to reapply, do you need to ask for new letters or rec from profs/ dentists? or can you just resubmit your old application the day the portal opens with the previous letters
I have been told from Admissions that if you end up having to reapply, you should definitely consider rewriting your PS, get new LOR with updates on what you have done since the previous cycle, and overall improve your application. Even is AADSAS would save ALL your info, definitely reevaluate yourself as to why you weren't able to get into a dental school the first time. Hope this helps

thank you! I definitely will figure out what I can do to improve but I just wanted to know before hand if I should notify the professors that I asked for letters, to resubmit.

I am having the interview coming up soon for the Illinois campus and pretty nervous since this is my first and only interview. I was wonder if anyone can give me some pointers for the interview. It would be a great help for me. What is the chance of getting accepted after receving interview? What is the interview style, is it open or closed file? How big is the interview group? What do they like to hear? Is there anything I should or should not say during the interview? Thank you in advance🙂

It seems like there are many people on this thread that have Midwestern-IL as a top choice. Could you share why it is at the top of your list? I have not had much experience with this school, so I am just curious why it stands out compared to others!

I assume these are fake accounts created by the school administration. I mean, there is no other way to explain it. I already got an acceptance in this school but I denied it. The school is very expensive for no reason.
Over $550k after interest is added. I don’t see how it is people’s top choice either. The campus is okay too. I’ve seen way nicer campuses.

I’m not a fake account! There is a long list of schools I would consider my top choice over MWU-IL but I was not offered interviews to them. I only got 2 interviews this cycle and I’m waitlisted at both schools so obviously this school is a top choice of mine. Not everyone has the opportunity to decline an acceptance and choose out of a list of better schools I assume there are plenty of other applicants with this being their only interview this cycle and hence why it’s their top choice!

I received an interview this morning. I am in state. I am not sure what to do though. I have made two deposits at another school already. Is it worth going to the interview or should I just give it up?

I am also not a fake account!! I had multiple interviews and acceptances and am choosing MWU-IL over cheaper schools. To me, price wasn't my main factor (although it is for a lot of people, which I totally understand). I wanted to go the school where I fit in the best and where I will be the most experienced dentist after 4 years, which I believe Midwestern will give me that. This is my personal opinion, but wanted to put it out there that this is a top choice for some of us 🙂

I am not a fake account either! I agree with everything that was stated before me. Besides the cost of the school, MWU can easily be considered as a really good dental school based solely on their clinical program. (their clinical program is comparable to more established dental school) Each person has their own opinion on why MWU is their top choice--whether it be their program itself, the location, or because it is the only school they received an offer from. Do not invalidate those students who would choose MWU as their top choice. One person's top choice, might be someone's last choice.. to each their own.

It was my only interview out of 16 schools. And while it is expensive, I can definitely see where all the money is going towards. They actually have the newest tech and enough of it so everybody can use it efficiently including milling machines, endo microscopes, and lasers. This fall all the drills and such in the sim lab should be brand spankin new. They unlimited teeth, and dental instruments/loupes are included in the tuition. We don't have to find our own patients and get to have our operatories set up by assistant before a procedure. Also there are no specialty departments so we can do many more advanced cases than other schools. Good location near the Chicago area gives us a large patient base and social life outside of dental school, and it is a 3hr flight for me to go home as well. There is a 1:4 faculty to student ratio which is one of the best in the country. Obviously it is not ideal to go into half a mil in debt, but I can still achieve my dreams of becoming a dentist while gaining much valuable clinical experience.
Exactly the reason why I turned down UIC and other offer to attend this school. Yes it’s pricey but the clinical experience is one of the best not to mention all the gadgets they have. Definitely becoming one of the top dental schools to be at

Congratulations for the interview. I didn't say that everyone who has Midwestern as their top choice is a fake account. That's not what I meant, I meant. I was referring to the people on this website who say stuff like " I was accepted into my in state school in Texas but I will attend Midwestern University", that's a troll right there. There's no other way to describe that person.

It depends on where you got accepted and what state you live in? If you got accepted into your in state school, then there is no reason to attend MWU. If the price difference is around $20,000 over four years, then choose the better school. But if the price difference is a lot more, choose the cheaper school.

Hi! This is the second time I will be interviewing at MWU (never got off the waitlist last year). For anyone who is/was in the same boat as me -- do they still ask you closed-file questions or do they focus instead on what you've done since the last time you interviewed?

may I ask if you sent them a letter of interest or intent when you were on waitlist last year? Or did you call asking about your waitlist??

also since it’s closed file, I’m assuming they won’t know you’re a reapplicant unless you explicitly tell them in your interview that you applied and was put on waitlist last year. 🙂

because they were one of the few schools that interviewed me so they’re my only hope this cycle lol. at least you got an acceptance

only $200?!? no wonder so many people are still holding their seats (assuming b/c no waitlist movement yet) x)
It used to be $1000, they lowered it to $200. In the next couple days, schools will get notified if people are holding multiple seats. They are then given about two weeks to choose only ONE school, or they will automatically be withdrawn. So, you should see movement towards the end of the month.

Yes I sent them a LOI shortly after my interview before I was waitlisted! I probably should've waited and sent it once the decision was made vs. prior to it being made because I felt like it would be weird to send another LOI since I already did lol.

My stats are 3.52 OGPA, 3.32 SGPA. 21 AA, 21 TS, 22 PAT after retaking DAT. 2000+ hours of dental assisting. My DAT hindered my application last year so I'm hoping now that I improved it they'll give me a shot :xf::xf:

Don't let the nerves get to you! It is very relaxed I thought. I'm not sure what their interviews are like for those off of the wait list but my interview was about 15 min long with two interviewers. If i remember correctly it was a closed file... My tips for anyone who is interviewing is to BE YOURSELF! You are more likely to stand out if you answer their questions your own way. They interview hundreds of people and I'm sure they hear the same answers worded slightly different. Find some interview questions online and write out an honest response. Don't memorize what you write, just have an idea of how you'd answer the question so you don't sit there saying "uhhhh". Good luck!

those are very very similar to my stats lol

Got an invitation for an interview and I am wondering if it's worth going. Does anyone know how full the class is?

It's worth it if you haven't been accepted to a different school yet! 🙂

Has there been a mass rejection without interview yet for this cycle for this program or do they prefer to keep you guessing until the last minute?

a good amount of people get accepted right after interviewing, maybe 1 or 2 people per interview week. so if you don’t have any other acceptances it’s worth a shot.

There has been a trend of 5-7 acceptances per interview group of 10-11 people

I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone has posted abt a rejection. But lets not lose hope yet. On page 7 of this thread there is a data chart from 2016-17 with some statistics that should still be fairly accurate that suggests abt 3/4 of applicants who were interviewed will get an offer. It says that 298 OS applicants were interviewed and 220 were made offers. IS applicants are similar ratio of 122:91.

Also, there are only 55 members in the facebook group and the class size is between 130-140 (I cant remember the exact number but I think it was 136). So there are maybe 70-80 seats left, and hopefully people will give up their seats to go to other schools. Just send them updates if you have any so you will get "bumped" higher on the list and send a letter of intent if you havent

Lets hope they didn't change their OOS stats this year...

Honestly, I feel like we've all sent in so many letters of interests/intents/updates x) I literally have nothing else to say to them hahaha

They accepted people off of the waitlists in early march in the previous years' threads, so maybe we'll hear at the end of March?? haha (it kills me because I know there's a lot of us who are banking on these waitlists and if we don't get accepted it means another round of apps :/ )

Does anyone have the ADEA explorer that could share a screenshot with last cycles acceptance statistics for midwestern-IL!?

In case you or anyone else were still looking for these stats:

I totally understand that since this is my one and only waitlist. So I hope we'll get to see each other there lol. If I don't get in, I might apply to their 1-year MA program in Biomedical Sciences. It was hard enough getting EC hours like shadowing this time around, and I already graduated in Dec, so I'm really not sure how else to strengthen my application at this point. Seems really inefficient since I know dentistry is the end goal and I'd have no use for a master's degree otherwise but I dont see another way at this point

Hoping you hear back this cycle, but IF you don't and MWU IL is your #1 choice I highly recommend you do MWU's 1-year bio medical sciences program. I know a current MWU AZ student who went that route and mentioned that as long as you maintain a certain GPA, then you are guaranteed an interview (and are likely to be accepted)

Do you all think that with the corona virus outbreak they’ll reach out to us waitlisted in order to reduce the amount of interviews they need to conduct!? Lol only kidding! It’s so hard waiting but I’m hoping that since the Facebook group is pretty small at this point and they only have a small amount of interviews left well have a good chance this cycle! (Fingers crossed for all us waitlisted 😀)

When sending a letter of intent, what’s the subject of your email? “Letter of intent”?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I personally replied to emails they sent to me first so the subject was already chosen, one was from Abbey Walters that said "Alternate List Status" and another to the general admissions email with "Midwestern University Application Update"

Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk

Did Abbey write back to you?😳
I sent mine to the regular admissions email & Brittany responded (but I think she handles all the general admissions)
I wonder if the dental admissions even know we're sending in these letters...

You have to remember that not everyone uses Facebook or SDN!

Anyone know how soon they get back to you after a post December interview?

Has anyone had an interview here for this cycle? If so do the inter-viewers ask the questions by just strictly going down The list of questions or do they ask the questions in more of a conversational format? I had Dr. Pulvido
