Looking for all/any information/opinions/advice about these two schools.

I recently got a offered a spot off the wait-list at SUNY Upstate, with the clinical years in Binghamton. Im fortunate to have the ability to pick a school, but now I am left with 3 days to decide! I live in Western NY and as of now I ideally would like to do my residency/ get a job somewhere in the north east. I've been thinking I'd like to do a pediatric subspecialty but I guess I'll have a better idea after some clinical rotations. Radiology was always in the back of my mind since but I know its one of the most competitive fields, so I guess we'll see.

Cincinnati seems like the better ranked school, with more research opportunities and frankly just seems more organized. However its a 7 hour drive from my hometown where my whole family and most of my friends are. I was more impressed with Cincinnati but my biggest draw to Upstate is that its 2.5 hours away and I'd like to be able to visit periodically/ be home for the big occasions. I am a little wary of Upstate's rank in respect to Cincinnati, and how that could potentially affect the quality of the curriculum and where I would match.

Cincinnati Pros:
-city is nicer than syracuse
-better looking orientation week schedule
-already found housing
-one of the top children's hospitals
-more research money

Cincinnati Cons:
-higher tuition
-distance

Syracuse Pros:
-close
-In State tuition

Syracuse Cons:
-New curriculum for upcoming year
-Binghamton doesnt sound so great

If anyone has any experiences at these schools and could share their insight I'd greatly appreciate it!

Both schools will get you where you want to go professionally if you put in the effort. The difference in rank is not that drastic. You should go where you think you would be happiest.

Agree with above. If being closer to your family will make your life easier/happier and you don't really have anything negative to say about Upstate, then that's what you should pick.

So I was starting to lean towards Upstate, because I realized the rankings are based on research and quite frankly didn't seem that impactful anymore but then I was doing my research on Upstate and they were just on probation form the LCME, had a new curriculum last year, and apparently will have another new curriculum this year but details on the curriculum are no where to be found. It is just all starting to seem very disorganized, if any current SUNY upstate students (or anyone) have any input on that I'd truly appreciate it. I wish I could have attended second looks to places I was wait-listed lol.

Upstate's curriculum for this fall is actually an improvement/upgrade from the new one that was implemented last fall. It is not a completely new curriculum.

However, if I were in your shoes I would go with Cincy.

Rankings are meaningless, as stated, since a large part of this is determined by NIH funding dollars which Upstate does not have in droves. It's a state school. Clinical care is the primary focus, and you'll gain a great education there. If you know you want to be a physician scientist, if you want a strong public health background (you won't get this at Upstate), or if you know you want to enter an insanely competitive specialty, Upstate is probably not a good fit. It's otherwise a solid clinical training facility.
