Hello!

I know there was a similar thread like this last year, but I am trying to decide between Wake Forest and Virginia Tech. I wanted to open a new thread because, with new schools especially, I think every year makes a difference.

I guess I am just not sure which one to choose. I wanted to lean towards VTC because of the smaller class size, more research support, and higher step 1 scores.

I cannot find any specific match information for VTC, so if anyone had that, that would be amazing.

I am particularly worried about not being able to match because it is a new school? I want to get in touch with some current students at VTC, but I am not sure how to go about doing that as well.

Thank you!

Wake hands down IMO, unless you prefer VT for personal reasons. Wake seems to be very well respected, specifically in the southeast.

VTC pulled their 2014 match list due to privacy concerns. They may decide to put it up along with 2015 match list without personally identifiable information, but for now, their match day video is the only source of information. For the 2015 match, this is what I got:

This is really unofficial and there may be a few missing since I was just jotting them down while watching the match day ceremony on youtube. According to my friend who's a cardiology fellow, they matched pretty well for Anesthesia and EM, but not too well for medicine except Baylor. The class size seems to be too small to make any constructive opinion on the list though.

I agree. Also OP, don't underestimate wake forest's research support. It's an amazing school.

I'm making a similar-ish decision. @Kemosabe can you talk more about Wake's research support, especially for global health/women's health?

Wake by a mile. Wake is bigger on research than you might think, has a great hospital system, and honestly the Piedmont Triad isn't as bad as people make it out to be (I have friends in Greensboro). I can't speak for VTC's Roanoke location but it is definitely closer to Appalachia - plus it's a new school and with that there are always some challenges, from what I've heard.

I will do some more digging and get back to you, but most medical schools including both v-tech and wake have access to many of the same global health opportunities (e.g., Child Family Health international). One of my major interests is global health and I interviewed at V-tech and wake. Both schools have opportunities in west africa, for example. Wake has a global health resource center with lots of opportunities including in Nicaragua here's some information: http://www.wakehealth.edu/School/Global-Health/
http://www.wakehealth.edu/School/Global-Health/Global-Health-Resource-Center.htm

There's lots of opportunities and you definitely could connect women's health + global health quite easily, especially with professors.
