Is this "banner system" you speak of something the rest of us can access with out application PIN? All it says when I sign back into the secondary is that my application has been submitted. What makes you think they will send us an email about the banner page this week?

No, they have to send you the PIN. The only people who can access it right now are current students at Brown and recent alums (those who graduated after 2007 since the BANNER system was set up in 2007. If you are a Brown student you can check your grades, fin aid, courses, applications to Brown med and grad school, etc on banner).
Also, since the Biology and Medical School Offices are essentialy in the same Building (Arnold), I knew the Medical School admission officers pretty well. All I did was call the main coordinator and she told me that the PINs will be sent out to everyone else this week.

This is an amazing school that I have fallen in love with, but I don't see why we should be crying with worry-on their site it said the incoming class had like a 33 mcat and 3.6 avg (3.5 science).

Yea, they are intimidating - but the whole application process is intimidating  Oh well. Just do our best I guess?

Wow, I sound like one of those corny saturday morning cartoon shows  I guess this is what happens after you just snap from all the silly-ness of the application process?

Thanks for the good, insider information! Did you happen to hear anything about when we might be hearing back about potential interview invites? Based on SDN, last year they started sending them out around the 12th of this month.

... so that you can go out with a poor Alpert medical student?... i guess everyone has their reasons. :)

Har har, but I guess I could settle for another medical student if Emma doesn't work out. Now...back to writing my secondary essay.

So have you guys received the email I said would come in by the end of the week from Brown? the activation email?

I just got my activation email today. My application is "in process."

app in process

they are waiting for a couple letters to come through interfolio

Why did my mother think that "brown" was a historically black college? ayayai

They have all of my stuff, but I am in process. Is that basically the same as being "complete" at other schools?

I noticed it said they received my AMCAS on July 9th. I thought they didn't send those until the 24th.

Irk. That means you are complete. I believe brown downloaded your AMCAS on July 2nd even though AAMC sent them to schools on June 24th.

There is an actual status page where they indicate all materials that they have received including your AMCAS fee,MCAt scores, LOR, secondary app and whether you are complete or not you are complete. It's possible they have it but they are gonna send the password to your banner status page this week.

Since I am a Brown alum, I was able to check my status through the banner system. I am happy to say I am complete.

Did your committee letter already get sent to your other schools or just Brown?

I sent my amcas to Brown, but filled out the secondary before I got the email back from Brown saying they received the amcas. Did I do it too early? On the website it says don't fill out a secondary if you haven't submitted the amcas...but does that mean they also want to have received it and emailed you too?

yea...i PMed you to find out when your amcas was complete...cause i dont understand why my committee letter has not been sent in. Anyone else waiting for a committee letter?

i'm still waiting on mine but my status at Brown shows that my app is in process

The doctor I shadowed was also from BA/MD program, and he seemed to like it as well. But I still don't like it too much. How is a high school senior supposed to know he/she wants to practice medicine for the rest of his life? The student needs to have some college experience and outside world experience before deciding if medical school is right for her.

That's what the entire world does, I mean, in most of the countries students go to medical schools right after high school, and become excellent doctors. Europe has thousands of brilliant specialists. It's only in the U.S. that the system is ******ed. We spend 4 years studying things we'll barely use again.

I didin't even come close. I think mine was between 4000 and 5000.

lol, I used the second prompt from last year's thread instead of the actual question posed by this year's.

When filling in their secondary app, there is a course category asking for
Social/Behavioral Sciences, can I put US government class in this category? Is an US government class considered to be a political science class?

My impression is that social/behavioral sciences refers to a sociology or psychology course (what went under BESS on your AMCAS).

I just put economics courses because I'm an economics major lol ;)

I don't think I've actually ever taken a pscyhology or sociology course.

for those interested, they began handing out interview invites. i got one today and was complete on 7/23.

I recently got my complete email-my goodness how I would LOVE an interview here...

Same here. Interview invite. Not sure when i was officially "complete" since I got the interview invite email a few hours after the complete email and I doubt they decided in that bit of time. But I submitted my secondary 8/6.

Did the interview invite show up on your status page too? Undergrad school needs to show their boy some love. Damn!

damn... congrats (even though i'm jealous) i submitted like 8/4 i think

congrats to those with interviews already!

lol i got excited and i only received the e-mail to set-up my official Brown account today.

How long did it take for you all to get complete emails? I am waiting for mine. Those who submitted in early August: have you gotten a complete email yet?

is the complete email the same as the account activation email?

my acct says everything has been received but i dont have an actual "complete" email

and can we get some stats from those interviewed? i know browns more about experiences, but just for reference :)

Never got a complete email myself, but I assume I was all done about when you were.

Congrats!

I'm still "in process"

They had my MCAT scores, gpa, etc. but were waiting for letters. I sent them a while ago.

Last email I got from them:

Brown Admissions Committee:

You have been sent the emails with instructions on how to check your application status online. We are processing a high volume of applications. Your application record should be updated by early next week

this is so high on my list, and i didn't get an interview (yet?), and i was complete 7/23 :(

Yeah, sorry about that. I think you are right! I think economics, any business course, political science, etc. should be good to fill in that requirement too

No problem. I'm the one who should have spent time taking those classes ;)

Congrats archimedesxx and sophia88!

Well, I just added Brown to my list, I'll keep you guys posted on updates!

So like some others on this forum, I received an interview invitation from Brown. I am not a PLME student and I know that Brown admits about half of its class from PLME applicants. So I was wondering if anyone could tell me what percentage of non-PLME interviewees get acceptance offers? US News says 176/196 intervieweed in 2008 got acceptances, but who knows how many of those were PLMEs. Anyone have any ideas?

this is from a post i wrote a very long time ago:

"it seems like to me that each year they receive about 2500-3000 applicants. they interview ~250 of them and accept ~100."

this is from their FAQ online:

How competitive is Alpert Medical School?
For the Fall 2009 entering class, Alpert Medical School received 2,517 secondary applications and gave 113 offers of admission through the standard route.

good luck with the interview.

Where did you get that US news data?
